The issue of the assortment of souvenirs in the centre of Prague as an incentive to create a alternative concept of "traditional Czech souvenirs".

This diploma thesis deals with the current use of traditional folk culture in the form of souvenirs. These are tendencies that have accompanied traditional folk culture since its extinction in the natural environment. The work will focus on these manifestations in a selected part of Prague center. It maps the range of offer souvenirs and focuses on them in relation to three key groups. Sellers, tourists and residence of Prague. In conclusion, the work tries to address the issue in an applied way, by designing its own part of the concept of traditional folk souvenirs, which are inspired by regional specifics. From a theoretical point of view, the work pay attentetion to the very source of inspiration for this type of souvenirs, the theories that are associated with traditional folk souvenirs and a selected ethnographic region.
Collective memory of Dejvice, Bubeneč, Lysolaje, Šárka and Suchdol betwen Second World War and gentrification

(in English): Master thesis examines specific aspects of collective memory of parts of Prague 6, especially districts Dejvice, Bubeneč, Lysolaje, Šárka and Suchdol. These former municipalities are at Prague's outskirts and their marginalization supported some specific local narratives: legends and rumours. In this area gentrification went through since the beginning 21th century and is coming to an end. Gentrification to certain extend ends the social life of narratives, which originated in the 1950s. Master theses researched, how the narratives changed, for instance ones about former malting plant or brick factories. Another researched aspect is continual change of spatial appropriations of this part of Prague and its territorialisation within the framework of local culture: in the local memory there are partially deposited memories of local youth gang fights, which divided territories in Dejvice and Bubeneč at the late 1950s and early 1960s. During the field research the legend about "Roklák" was collected in Podbaba. The research also captured the change of usage of former locations of industrial plants and the continual process of their gentrification.
Dynamics of funerary rituals and modernization processes of the 19th and 20th century in Roman Catholic parish deanery Český Dub

The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the form and development of funeral customs in the southern part of the Roman Catholic parish Český Dub - in the collature of the church of St. Jakub Major in Letařovice from the middle of the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century. The focus is on the local village community, its experience of the death of its own member and the form of the funeral rite, which allowed the deceased to pass from the world of the living to the world of the dead. The work analyzes funeral rituals and their development through the prism of the theory of rites of passage, specifically through the perspective of Victor Turner and the analysis of the liminal phase. It also shows the reason for ritual behavior and its performative parts. The work reflects the modernization and secularization of society and tries to reveal their influence on the rituality of burials in Letařovice. It analyzes with bureaucratization and sanitation of funeral homes. The first part of this diploma thesis presents the development of burial in the Czech lands and regional historical context. The Slovacko Verbunk Interpreted by the Children Dancers

Anna Jagošová, Slovácký verbuňk v interpretaci dětských tanečníků Abstract The presented thesis deals with the phenomenon of the male solo dance otherwise known as "The Slovacko Verbunk" and its contemporary interpretations performed by child dancers. This phenomenon is a modern element of folklorism and can be observed Moravian Slovakia region in the past two decades. The main theme of the research and subsequent analysis is the form and performance of "Verbunk" by child dancers. Marginal attention is also paid to their own opinions and attitudes towards "Verbunk" as it is traditionally performed by adult male dancers. Moreover, the thesis deals with "Národní přehlídka dětských verbířů," roughly translated as "The National Exhibition of the Child Verbunk Dancer." This exhibition is organized in cooperation within The International Child Folklore Festival called "Kunovské léto" (The Summer of Kunovice) which has undoubtedly influenced the phenomenon of children reinterpreting "Verbunk" dance the most. The Phenomenon of Taboo Behaviour in Czech Prosaic Folklore

Thesis is focused on motifs of taboo behavior in Czech prosaic folklore. The objective of this work was to depict how the motifs participate in folktales and legends, compare these motifs, describe their change in time and space and possible overlaps into to social reality. In the thesis is used as a method the textological analysis of narrative motifs in the primary sources of folklore narratives from the mid 19th century to the present. In summary are presented possible function of taboo in folklore narratives, relation of folklore and social reality based on taboo and variations in understanting a taboo phenomen in time.

The Burning of Witches: History and contemporary form of tradition

Bachelor thesis "Burning of the witches: History and current form of tradition deals with history of Walpurgis Night custom of burning of the witches in the Czech culture with comparation with traditions in the surrounding countries. Its purpose was to find out how this custom was transformed into its present form over the centuries and to describe and analyse its contemporary form. To obtain actual data, fieldwork was conducted, in several selected municipalities in northern Bohemia. Research has been implemented by attended observation and unstructured or semi-structured interviews. The purpose was to obtain data about the course of the events themselves, the interpretation of the organizers and participants and the accompanying activities.
Snake in the Czech Worldview. Ethnolinguistic study

The bachelor thesis Snake in the Czech Worldview is an ethnolinguistic study, which is based on the concepts and methodology of the Slavic cultural linguistics, of which principles are introduced in the first chapter of the thesis. Zoological point of view on a snake and its position in the world mythology are introduced before the thesis explores the word snake in the Czech ethymological and monolingual interpretative dictionaries. The most signifiant part of the thesis is focused on the many forms and shapes that a snake aquires in the Czech traditional and also modern folklore. By gathering and analysing the phraseology, traditional fairy tales, legends and fables and also contemporary urban legends concerning snakes, the research is heading towards the final conclusion - to create the definition of a snake in the Czech culture, thus its position in the Czech worldview.
The End of Baráčníks in the Society of Experience?

The aim of this work is to help claryfying the question of why members of baráčník's clubs, who are engaged in maintaining national traditions, are nowadays talking about the decline or even the end of their movement and how they are trying to resist this threat. Baráčník's movement is understood in this work as an artificially created tradition of the late 19th century, which is confronted with today's social reality, which according to one theory, can also be described as an society of experience. In the first phase of the thesis, it is first introduced how, on the basis of concrete arrangements, a centrally organized movement focused on the care of national customs and traditions emerged from the network of pubs table companies. It is monitored how the headquarter of baráčník's movement worked on standardization of baráčník's ideology, symbolism and program. It also shows how these changes in ideology were approached by the members themselves and the public. Special attention is focused on finding the answer, why it was possible that baráčník's clubs have not been canceled in the era of communist regime. In the second phase are solved the problems, how baráčníks organize their activities today, how they thematize their problems with lack of interest in their program and finally how they present...
