Solo and chamber literature for double bass in the archives of Prague

The subject of the Graduation thesis is the solo and chamber literature found in the archives of Prague. The objective of this work is to map the literature related to double bass in six particular archives. The most important part of this thesis are tables with the results of the research. The found works are listed with signatures for better reader´s orientation and for possible looking up of the material. Different chapters of this thesis inform us the hisory of the relevant archives, explain the research methods and describe the found material.It is in essence a self-contained abstract of double bass literature in the city of Prague which might be used ( not only) by the bass players as a guide while finding a required title. Last but not least, it is to help to extend their horizons in musical history.

My Magister`s thesis brings a summary of the Czech Composer`s work and the Chamber work for Double Bass since 1945. My thesis is devided into three chapters. The first chapter presents the biography of Frantisek Hertl in chronological order. The second chapter is dedicated to the Czech nonet, its rise, progresse and reportoire. One of the chapters represents the time when Frantisek Hertl was the artistic manager of the Czech nonet. The last part of my work includes summary of the Czech Composer`s workand Chamber work since 1945. I would like to contribute to the enrichment of the Double Bass literature by my graduation thesis.
The double bass in jazz, with special attention on Czech jazz double bassists

My bachelors thesis ( The double bass in jazz, with special attention on Czech jazz double bassists) consists of an introduction of Czech jazz double bassists, and the way jazz is played on this instrument. In individual chapters I describe my reasons for choosing this topic, and also brief hisorical context.A special chapter is dedicated to the technique of playing jazz on the double bass.This chapter also contains short notation excerpts, and two full transcriptions of Jiří Mráz´s solos. In the rest of the chapters I pay closer attention to the individual bassists.I present their biographies, discographies, and an analysis of their style, which is linked to audio examples found on the CD, that is attached to this paper. A bibliography, including web addresses I used, is attached, as well as a complete list of LP´s and CD´s I used for the audio excerpts. I conclude the treatise with a summary, and acknowledgments.
Primary Artz School in Police nad Metují - phenomenon of an art-oriented school based in a small border-region town

This bachelor´s work aims at analysing - taking as an example one particular primary arts school - the circumstances necessary for successful work of such a type of school in the conditions of a small town located in the border region, which tend to be different, often to a great , from the conditions in large towns and cities; special attention is paid to educational work with small children attending the string department, in particular the double bass classes. As the example for this analysis the student chose the school she is intimately familiar with - the Primary Arts School in Police nad Metují, one she passed through herself. The first part of the paper (A) is devoted to a general analysis of the conditions in which the monitored school is working. The second part (B) deals with one specific area for which this school is significant and in which it is discinctly successful - teaching string instruments to children from the tenderest age. In consideration of the student´s field of study - the double bass - this part is devoted in particular to the methodology and conditions of work with small children when teaching the double bass.

This Magister Work describes the music life in court of Český Krumlov from medieval period till the present and concentrates on ?Rožmberk band?,which were estabilished in the second half of 16. century by Vilém of Rožmberk. Describes preserved musical instruments, which are today component parts of so called ?Rožmberk colection of instruments? and is mainly focused on ?Rožmberk Bass?.
Tony Osborne - contibution for Double Bass literature

My thesis brings new pieces of knowledge about a composer Tony Osborne. His musical creature is mainly directed to chamber double bass compositions. My work is divided into tree chapters: The first chapter is dedicated to the life of Tony Osborne and his cooperation with various double bassists and musical editions. The second chapter includes some information adout Tony Osborne´s extensive creation which also includes his musical and film music. The last part of my work is directed to the musical analyses of Tony Osborne´s concert"Melodic Portrait". I would like to contibute to the enrichment of the double bass literature by my graduation theses.
