Pavlátová, Andrea ; Blahůtová Kavanová, Klára (referee) ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor)
The Development of Tibetan Cultural and Religious Identity among Tibetans Living outside of Historical Tibet The topic of my thesis was to find out changes in Tibetan society inside Tibet and in Tibetan exile in last 50. years and how do changes help to progress social capital. Inside Tibet is problem with high percent of nonliterary and high percent of incoming Han people, which cause that Tibetan people are getting on the edge of society, because they didn't have developed their human potential. The main problem is that Tibetan people don't know Chinese language well and this language is becoming more useful for daily life in Tibetan autonomous region. Tibetans, who are very religious, don't have opportunity to practice Tibetan Buddhism under communistic rule of Chine. Tibetans have to renounce His Holiness dalajlama and deny part of their Tibetan identity. Those reasons influence them to escape into exile. The second part of my thesis is concerned to describe push and pull factors of migration. As I found in materials, the main reasons to escape into exile were political, religion, education, economical problems and renounce dalajlama. In my research, Tibetan didn't divide those reasons to those categories, because they think of those problems in holistic way. The last part of thesis in...

Adventist and Mormon congregations in Czechia: Distribution, position and manifestation of social capital
Reeves, Daniel ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Daněk, Petr (referee)
This research examines the congregations of two relatively young, "western" Christian churches (namely the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Mormons) within Czechia, as sources of social capital for their members. To place these congregations into a spatial context and to shed light on the organizational base of their extensive social networks, the distribution and position (in terms of percentage of adherents as a portion of the total population) of the respective churches are explored at global, regional (European) and local (Czechia) levels. Quantitative and qualitative methods are used to attempt to measure the strength of Adventist and Mormon congregations in Czechia as a viable source of social capital and to explore the diverse ways in which members benefit from belonging. The levels of trust and participation measured within congregations indeed suggest that they present ideal conditions for the development of social capital. Experiences and specific examples of active participants in Adventist and Mormon communities in Czechia confirm the existence of social capital benefits arising from their participation in a congregation. The first chapter deals with historical conflicts related to specific conditions of the forming of the new state on an unstable Indian subcontinent. These conflicts are also related to the consolidation of Indian territory after gaining independence, to the administrative development of India and international relations with the surrounding states. The second and more extensive part focuses on current armed conflicts, that are divided in four basic cathegories - separationist movement in the federate state of Jammu and Kashmir; separationist and religious movement in North-east India; terrorism supported by maoist ideology in tropical rain...

Hupková, Martina ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kotrlý, Tomáš (referee)
Martina Hupková - Nekrogeografický výzkum Česka ABSTRACT: Diploma thesis is concerned with theme of death, which has been left out by Czech geography till now. There is a tendency to make theme of death taboo in Czech society, nevertheless a manner of treatment with death is a sign of cultural maturity and is changing in space and time. Necrogeographical aspects - a manner of treatment with death and forms of cemeteries reflect a culture in different regional divisions (state, region, locality). Thesis is engaged in discussion about possibilities of necrogeographical research in Czechia and the investigative part of thesis is engaged in necrogeographical analysis. Interfacial areas between religion and a way of burying are searched for in thesis because of presumed influence of religion on a manner of treatment with death. Dependence of a way of burying on religion is evaluated on level of world's nations and micro-regions of Czechia. Spatial differentiation of necrogeographical aspects within Czechia is analyzed via field surveys of model regions. Cemeteries are considered from two points of view - as objects in space and as a culture reflecting phenomenons. Presented thesis attempts to contribute by geographical work to not so expanded study of death. KEY WORDS: necrogeography, cemetery, religion,...
