Parliamentary elections in 2013 and the level of professionalisation of election campaigns

The diploma thesis deals with the professionalization of election campaigns before the parliamentary elections in 2013. The work analysed six electoral campaigns, namely ANO, ODS, TOP 09, KDU-ČSL, KSČM and Úsvit. The aim of the thesis is to analyse and then to compare the degree of professionalization with the mentioned political parties and to verify several claims related to the concept of professionalization. For example, claiming that an expensive campaign means a professionalized campaign. Furthermore, the claim that a professionalized campaign means successful campaigning and election success.
Use of Mixed-Member Electoral Systems: Examples of Bolivia, Germany, New Zealand

The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to analyse and compare mixed-member electoral systems and their consequences in cases of Bolivia, Germany and New Zealand. The text is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces mixed-member electoral systems in general, existing research in this area, main variables of mixed-member electoral systems, and their key typologies by Massicote & Blaise and Shugart & Wattenberg. In the second chapter, causes of electoral reforms, their circumstances, main actors and their preferences are analysed. The description of individual cases is followed by cross-comparison. The final chapter concerns itself with the consequences of electoral reforms and their influence on party and political systems, as well as with changes in the candidate selection process or their individual characteristics. The description is also followed by comparison among researched countries. The main focus of this comparison is on selected characteristics of political systems: volatility, voter turnout, disproportionality and effective number of parliamentary parties. These are calculated with established statistical tools: Gallagher index, Pedersen index and Laakso-Taagepera index.
Influence of the National Minorities on the Party Systems of the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Slovenia

The aim of the bachelor thesis "Influence of the National Minorities on the Party Systems of the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Slovenia" is to compare the influence of national minorities on the party systems of Estonia and Slovenia. Numerous Russian minority and other minorities from former Soviet Union live in Estonia, where they form large part of population. Like other citizens they have civil rights, through which they shape the party system, political system respectively. In Slovenia live many citizens from former Yugoslavia and other surrounding countries. Thesis includes personal analysis of parliaments of both countries aimed at minority participation. POSTAVENÍ VALONSKÝCH STRAN V LETECH 1999-2012 Bakalářská práce Zuzana Jílková Abstract Bachelor thesis Political parties in Wallonia, 1999-2012 analyses four Walloon parties (Socialist Party (PS), Reform Movement (MR), Humanist democratic centre (cdH) and Association for the organization of the original environmentalists fight (Ecolo)) and their effect on development of the federalization of Belgium. In this work the election results of the parties are presented in detail at the provincial, regional, national and supranational levels. Then the work observes the presence of the parties in coalition, symmetry and asymmetry across levels of governments and coordination across levels in parties, between governments and within coalitions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of political parties in the development of the federalization of Belgium. Resource base is made up of election results from the official website of the Belgian state institutions, of the general literature about elections, political parties and formation of coalitions and of political party's direct expression.
Populism in Czech Politics: Electoral Reform Proposals

This work, "Populism in Czech politics: Electoral reform proposals", addresses Czech political representatives presenting electoral reform proposals. In those they are appealing to the people and to a dichotomy against elites. Firstly, the work attempts to define populism, delimit this concept and set some basic research characteristics. Secondly, the work briefly sums up current state of electoral system of the Czech Republic. Third, it analyzes specific electoral reform proposals presented by Czech political subjects, which are considered populist. Researched subjects are "Hnutí Úsvit přímé demokracie Tomia Okamury" (the Dawn Movement of Direct Democracy of Tomio Okamura) and their proposals; and Karel Janeček with his proposal Democracy 2.1. This work aims to analyze if those proposals and their authors comply with set characteristics of populism.

Influence of the elections and electoral systems on dissolution of the Socialist federal republic of Yugoslavia

The author is concerned with the influence of elections and electoral systems on dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia at example of Slovenia and Croatia in his contribution from the field of political science. He analyses the role of elections and electroral systems in the republic parliaments of Slovenia and Croatia on the basis of methodological procedures and theoretical concepts. It is done primarily by the transformation of allocation of political power before and after the elections and also by the consequences of the elections. Together with it the reader is briefed by the basic facts about dissolution of Yugoslavia and emergence of selected successor countries. The infuence of elections at the level of republics consisted in the legitimization of transformation of allocation of political power toward to the republics and in the legitimization of democratic way above all. The influence of electoral systems consisted in proportion of the results above all. The elections at the level of republics simplified the decentralization of Yugoslavia leading to its dissolution.
