Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the process of uncovering
Urbánková, Anna ; Dorazilová, Aneta (advisor) ; Mikoška, Petr (referee)
Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is a method gaining popularity that presents potential in the treatment of mental health problems, primarily depressive and anxiety disorders. In the Czech Republic, it is currently available in the form of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. The process of uncovering is a psychotherapeutic mechanism, operating on the principle of awareness of the inner contents of the mind, which can contribute to positive psychotherapeutic change. The literature review part of the thesis offers an overview of the theory of psychedelics, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the process of uncovering. The empirical part of the thesis aimed to map the subjective experiences of clients who have undergone ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, focusing on the process of uncovering experienced during treatment. The sample consisted of six women, aged 29 to 34 years, with depressive and anxiety symptoms. The method of data collection was semi-structured interview, qualitative data were processed using thematic analysis. The results showed that ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can facilitate the process of uncovering, they also outlined possible forms of uncovering, and showed that uncovering was experienced by respondents primarily as a sense of self and self-integrity. Factors that...
Cognitive functioning and quality of life in persons with substance induced psychosis compared to persons with schizophrenia
Chvostová, Veronika ; Dorazilová, Aneta (advisor) ; Nikolai, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis is devoted to cognitive functioning and quality of life in persons with schizophrenia and substance induced psychosis (SIP). The main aim of the thesis was to find out whether there is any cognitive impairment in persons with SIP and whether there are any differences in cognition between persons with SIP and schizophrenia. Further aims were to study substance use-related effects on cognition and to study the quality of life in persons with SIP. The sample consisted of three groups of participants: persons with SIP (n = 21), with schizophrenia (n = 21) and healthy persons (n = 21) which were matched by demographic variables. Cognitive functions of all the groups were assessed by the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) and the Q-LES-Q-SF questionnaire was used in persons with SIP to assess subjectively perceived quality of life. The results show that slight cognitive deficit (-1SD) can be observed in persons with SIP only in the domains of speed of processing and working memory; they differed significantly from healthy persons only in the working memory domain. Compared to persons with schizophrenia, the SIP group had significantly better cognitive performance, specifically in the domains of speed of processing, verbal and visual memory and problem solving. Therefore, the results...
Influence of personality on the occurence and characteristics of challenging psychedelic experience
Kratochvílová, Sára ; Dorazilová, Aneta (advisor) ; Vítek, Petr (referee)
This thesis explores the influence of personality on the challenging psychedelic experience. The challenging experience represents both a strongly negative experience and an experience with therapeutic potential. Thus, exploring the challenging psychedelic experience may be particularly beneficial for the context of psychedelic therapy. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces psychedelics, their history, mechanism of action, specific phenomena, and therapeutic uses. Most emphasis is placed on describing the challenging psychedelic experience, its predictors, and subsequent long-term effects. Personality and some of its measurement tools are also described. In the last chapter of the theoretical section, a review of previous research on the influence of personality on the challenging psychedelic experience is conducted, based on which the research design of this thesis is constructed. In the empirical section, an investigation of the relationship between three personality dimensions and the challenging psychedelic experience induced by the use of a serotonergic psychedelic is proposed. The research in the confirmatory part will verify previous findings in this research area and attempt to elaborate on them in the exploratory part. The hypotheses of the confirmatory part assume a relationship...
Treatment methods for obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and adolescents: an expert perspective
Mašková, Viktorie ; Šporclová, Veronika (advisor) ; Dorazilová, Aneta (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with treatment methods of obsessive-compulsive disorder in both children and adolescents. The literature review section contains, in addition to basic information about obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and adolescents, a description of treatment methods as viewed in the literature. There is also a chapter describing the situation in the Czech Republic in connection with the care of children and adolescents with OCD in contrast to the care options available in the United States. The research part has a qualitative character. Its aim is to gain insight into psychotherapeutic and psychiatric practice in connection with the treatment of OCD in children and adolescents. The method of data collection is a semi- structured interview. The data obtained within it are analyzed by the method of thematic analysis. The results describe what key topics occur in connection with the course of OCD treatment in children and adolescents, what treatment approach selected experts consider to be the best, and what limits they perceive in connection with the system of care for children and adolescents with OCD in the Czech Republic.
