Immigrants in the Czech Republic and Their Reproductive Behavior
Pospíšilová, Anna ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
This dissertation introduces recent immigration into the Czech Republic and characterizes the most numerous groups of immigrants according to their citizenship, i.e. the citizens from Ukraine, Vietnam, Russia and Slovakia. The main objective of this dissertation is to analyze reproductive behavior of these groups, immigrants and foreigners as a whole in the Czech Republic. First are presented the factors that may affect the fertility of immigrants and the main hypotheses that were formulated by the experts abroad. Mentioned are also possible methods of examination and the sources of data. Subsequently is performed the analysis of immigrant fertility in the Czech Republic on the basis of data from the Czech Statistical Office. It turns out, that immigrant fertility in this country is at a very low level. The only relevant difference represents the fertility of women with Vietnamese citizenship, whose fertility is slightly higher than in the Czech women population in total. Lastly are presented the results from questionnaire survey carried out among Vietnamese women living in the Czech Republic. Its conclusions may be more as an inspiration for future research. Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008
Ashimov, Askat ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kurtinová, Olga (referee)
Trends and patterns of cancer mortality in Kazakhstan in comparison with some selected European countries from 1986 to 2008 Abstract Cancer is the third leading cause of premature death in Kazakhstan. Every year more than thirty thousand Kazakhstani people are diagnosed with cancer. This master thesis tries to provide base for the cancer control programmes in Kazakhstan. It also analyses the changes of the mortality level and distribution by the most important groups of tumours for men and women. The most common types of cancer are lung, skin, breast and stomach. These four cancers combined account for over 44% of new cases of cancer. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in men accounting for nearly a quarter of cancer cases in men. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women accounting for 20%. Cancer remains mainly a disease of older Kazakhstanis. The largest proportion of cancer deaths for both men and women were from lung cancer mainly caused by smoking. Deaths from cancers of the lung, stomach, breast and esophagus together accounted for almost a half (46%) of all cancer deaths. With an estimated ASMR 225.5 for males and 122.0 for females in 2008, cancer remains an important public health problem in Kazakhstan. The international comparison illustrates the differences in cancer mortality in...
Infant mortality in the Czech Republic in the European context
Šornová, Martina ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
In this Bachelor thesis there is the development of infant mortality in the Czech Republic documented by basic indicators of infant mortality in the period 1950-2009. There are also the indicators of infant mortality compared and position of the Czech Republic among select countries was determined. In conclusion, the development and intensity of infant mortality of the Czech Republic is compared with the development and intensity of infant mortality of Slovakia. In the part the method of biometric analysis of infant mortality is applied. An alternative approach of finding the location of the line representing endogenous deaths through the differences of cumulative number of deaths is suggested for this method.
Comparison of life tables construction in selected countries
Godunov, Ivan ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Koňařík, Martin (referee)
Comparison of life tables construction in selected countries Abstract The main goal of this work is to analyze the methods used by the selected statistical offices in the construction of mortality tables. This work explored fundamental differences regarding the type of published life tables and parameters estimation methods. The theoretical part provides an overview of basic methodological information and description of methodology used, which was acquired during communicating with the selected statistical offices. During the analysis it was found that the differences in calculating the various functions of life tables are minimal, so the analytical part is mainly devoted to methods of estimating the probability of death at age 0 and smoothing of probability of death in older age. Acquired procedures and methods were applied to the data for the Czech Republic, which allowed the comparison itself. The final part is the overall evaluation of achieved results, where can be also found commentaries on selected procedures and methods. Keywords: life table, comparison, life table components, probability of death, smoothing of probability of death
