Boržiková, Martina Kateřina ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
Sanctification according to John 17: 13-19 The diploma thesis deals with an exegesis of John 17:13-19 with emphasis on an interpretation of the verses 17 and 19 and within them especially on the meaning of the term sanctification. The first chapter presents a brief introduction to the Gospel of St. John, the second one shows the chosen pericope in a contextual view and subsequently brings its literary-grammatical analysis. The third chapter focuses on an analysis of the selected biblical-theological terms which are fundamental for understanding of the pericope. The last chapter brings the exegesis itself with the aid of selected commentaries. The aim of the thesis is to interpret the presented pericope and to get to its deeper sense especially in connection with the term sanctification. Exorcism in Mark 5:1-20 and evil spirits in Jewish traditions
Ondra, Michal ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
ONDRA, Michal. Exorcism in Mark 5:1-20 and evil spirits in Jewish traditions The goal of this master thesis is to introduce the readers to Jewish demonology, how it evolved, what influenced it, and how it was reflected in the works on the evangelists when they wrote down the stories of Jesus' confrontations with the forces of darkness. At first you will be introduced to the term "demon", which is followed by an excursion into the Hellenistic culture, the period of the Old and the New Testament and, of course, into the intertestamental literature. It is specifically the intertestamental literature which is the most relevant, since it is a very rich collection of works many of which contain references to demonology and angelology. In the second half of this thesis you will find an analysis of Mark's fifth chapter (Mk 5:1-20), which is subsequently compared to similar stories found in the gospel of Luke and Matthew. The final chapter of this thesis shortly reflects the influence of the Jewish tradition on the demonology of Mark's gospel.
Healing in the Acts of the Apostles
Kuchta, Pavel ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The master thesis "Healing in the Acts" is concerned with the analysis and the exegesis of six pericopes, in which the author describes the healing of particular people. In the first chapter the notion of healing is briefly outlined, at first as a "sign", further as a "proof of the credibility of the apostles and their sermons", and at last in the sense of "the auxiliary tool of the spreading of the gospel". The following fundamental chapter of the thesis is devoted to exegesis of particular pericopes: healing of lame man by Beautiful Gate (Acts 3,1-10), followed by the joint healing of Eneas and Tabitha (Acts 9,32-43). The last three stories are part of exegesis of the healing of disabled man in Lystra (Acts 14,8-12), resurgence of Eutyches in Troas (Acts 20,7-12) and healing of Publius' father on Malta (Acts 28,7- 10). The last chapter is focused on the summary and reflection of the purpose of the individual miraculous acts, as well as their comparison with the similar cases in synoptic gospels (such a comparison is concerned particularly with the main source of the miraculous power, types of diseases and social status of the above mentioned sick people).

To be as children? Exegesis of Mark 10:13-16
Reichel, František ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hřebík, Josef (referee)
To Be As A Children? Exegesy Of Mk 10:13-16 The study deals with the exegesis of the pericope of the Gospel of Mark (Mk 10:13-16), generally known under the title The Little Children and Jesus. A part of the work is dedicated to the text of the pericope, not only from the point of view of its Czech translation, but also with consideration of the Greek text through which we strive to understand the original message of the author and its perception by the then recipients as well as the contemporary ones. To grasp the studied text better, it is perceived in the immediate context of the Transjordan passage of the Second Gospel, as well as in the broader context of the entire Gospel of Mark. Mark's text and his compositions are also compared with the parallel texts of synoptic gospels whose authors used Mark's original as a background. Two separate chapters are dedicated to the analysis of two crucial terms of Jesus's statement in the fifteenth verse: children - as the ancient and postmodern interpretations may differ significantly - and the kingdom of God, which is the core of the pericope, as well as the entire Mark's narration of Jesus's earthly preaching. The purpose of the work is to interpret the story and to understand, in depth, Jesus's statement: "Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God...
