Human dignity: universal principle in particular application
Broz, Jan ; Kysela, Jan (advisor) ; Kosek, Jan (referee)
This thesis probes the relevance of objections against newly establishing contemporary paradigm of human dignity, based on connection between dignity and Kantian views on human autonomy, which possess universalistic ambitions. First chapter introduces the fundamental concepts of human dignity during history. The chapter shows there have been evolved at least three different concepts: (i) dignity as an internal value; (ii) dignity as a social status; and (iii) dignity as a certain manner of social behavior. Second chapter consequently deals with courts` techniques regarding the dignity as a legal concept. The conclusions extrapolated from German, Israeli and South African judicial decision-making noticeably support objections raised in contemporary discourse against the abovementioned universalistic concept. In spite of these universalistic ambitions, human dignity represents concept enabling to construe individual human rights through values shared by vast majority in certain jurisdictions. This mindset naturally leads to the limitation of individual freedom rather to its expansion, in the name of an idea that ideal moral order objectively exists. Consequently, the authority of classical human rights is considerably weakened. In third chapter the effort to analyze and construe current judicial practice is...

Brož, Jan ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Vaňous, Jaroslav (referee)
This diploma thesis is devoted to Václav Majer (January 22, 1904 - January 25, 1972) and his public work, particularly in the period of the Third Republic of Czechoslovakia. Václav Majer was a social democratic politician and he was a leader of the right wing within the Czechoslovak Social Democracy. The main issue which was being discussed inside the Social Democratic Party at that time was the question of cooperation between Social Democrats and Communists. Majer was a main proponent of independent policy of the Social Democratic Party. Sometimes it is hard to analyze the meaning and the course of various political affairs without knowing their roots. In that case, it is necessary to study the background of these events which in many cases lies at the previous period. This is the reason why this very essay actually starts right after the Munich Agreement was negotiated and signed. This thesis informs about Majer's road to exile and his political activities during the World War II. The main interest of this thesis lies in the era of the Third Republic and informs about Majer and his policy during this very period.

Brož, Jan ; Kocian, Jiří (advisor) ; Tůma, Oldřich (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the Czechoslovak Social Democracy and its relations with the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party in the second half of 1947. The text mentions important changes in these relations which occurred in this very period and gives an account of tensions within the Social Democracy as well. The main issue which was discussed inside the Social Democratic Party was the question of cooperation between Social Democrats and Communists. These intraparty tensions distinctively showed up in two events. One was the pact of Communist and Social Democratic solidarity, which was signed in September during negotiations on the Millionaires' Tax, the other was the Brno congress of the Social Democratic Party in November, 1947. This thesis also informs about the Communists' view on intraparty feuding within the Social Democratic Party and tactics which they used in approach to the Czechoslovak Social Democracy. Finally, this text also notifies of the National Socialists' thoughts on cooperation with the Social Democracy.
