Network Communications for Virtual Waiting Room
Novák, Lukáš ; Kolář, Martin (referee) ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor)
The core of this thesis is to describe in detail the design of communication protocol for client/server communication and creation of a functioning server application prototype. REST design approach was used for this communication. This approach uses mainly GET and POST functions of HTTP transport protocol. The server application prototype is created in PHP with the help of Silex micro-framework. The protocol is designed for mobile clients, which are used for registering into queues and also for administrative clients, which can control and manage the queues. Testing of the designed protocol with server application prototype is described at the end of this thesis.

Language of Interaction and Communication Design
Brejcha, Jan ; Kera, Denisa (advisor) ; Strossa, Petr (referee) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
The present work seeks to describe implicit patterns of natural language and cul- ture in human-computer interaction (HCI). Although extensive research has been done in the fields of HCI semiotics, and HCI culture, we try to bring novel insights through the semiotics perspective, and to propose a set of design guidelines for the international HCI practitioners. The steps to achieve this are: First, to define the semiotic and linguistic system of the user interface (UI) and create a related methodology, and second, to apply the acquired methodology to cross-cultural UI comparison. In the first part we propose a design and analytic method for ad- dressing UI language patterns. We defined the elements of the user-UI interaction grammar, which we then used to form our semiotic evaluation method. The semi- otic evaluation method is then compared to heuristic analysis which is already widely used in HCI. While our results show the complementarity of both the methods, semiotic analysis is able to uncover otherwise hidden aspects of the UI. The second part focuses on the ideology of the interaction. Using rhetorics and persuasion techniques the UI lead users to interact in a predetermined way. An analogy between the political and UI ideologies is showed. The third part deals with cultural differences in HCI. In...
Visual Localization in Natural Environments
Brejcha, Jan ; Sattler, Torsten (referee) ; Matas, Jiří (referee) ; Čadík, Martin (advisor)
V této práci se zabýváme odhadem pozice a orientace kamery z dané fotografie. Tento problém nazýváme vizuální geo-lokalizace. Konkrétně se zabýváme fotografiemi pořízenými v přírodních horských prostředích. Představujeme podrobný průzkum aktuálního stavu poznání algoritmů, datových sad a přístupů k vyhodnocování problému vizuální geo-lokalizace.

Product semantics and interaction patterns in web pages design
Sklenářová, Zuzana ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Svoboda, Aleš (referee)
The following diploma work come from the discipline of semiotics. Classic semiotics is depicted here only marginally. It concentrates more on its specific sphere, which is named product semantics. This is such a field of semiotics, which deals with the meaning of products. At first, we must provide an overview about everything that product semantics includes and in which relation it is to design and graphics. This is described in theoretical part, in which it is mostly extracted from texts in English, because my topic is in Czech language sphere new. In the case of this work web pages are comprehended as products. We deal here thus with an analysis of web pages from the product semantics perspectives. For this purpose I have chosen three web pages, which I have studied from the perspective of classic semiotics, from the perspective of web semiotics, from the perspective of usability and from the perspective of consistence. After this I answer the questions given in the text and I show the mistakes web pages do. At the end I answer on the basis of evaluation of consistence whether the hypothesis of this work is truthful or mistaken.
Semiotic Engineering and rules for interaction design
Prokop, Pavel ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Slavíček, Daniel (referee)
Semiotic Engineering is one of semiotic approaches to human-computer interaction problematics. Its theory is based on a simple notion of interface beeing a designers deputy through which the designer comunicates with users of this interface. Telling them, how to work with a program, he or she designed for them. Apart from teoretical foundation, semiotic engineering dispose also with research methods that can be used to evaluate a way an interface communicates with its users. This way it can compare with other non-semitic theories in this branch of research and thanks to its orientation to communication, it is even able to bring new points o wiev. Its theory and methods are used in this thesis as a basis for creation of a set of rules for user interface designers, that shoul serve them as guidelines for their thinking about interface. It turns out that semiotic theory is capable of bringing concerete results for praxis in the area of interaction design and it is not bound only to the academic enviroment.
