Škácha, Petr ; Vopřada, David (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
Christians in cyberspace. The aim of this work is to find an answer to the question of whether it is possible to use cyberspace safely and for good, or whether cyberspace itself is bad and its use incorrect. The first part of the work is devoted to the rapid technological development of recent decades in general. The first chapter defines the concept of cyberspace. The second chapter will summarize the development of technologies related to cyberspace, mainly telecommunications technologies. The next chapters look at how this change and the spread of technology has changed the way people communicate, and describe the most important changes, both positive and negative. The second part of the work tries to introduce to the specific worlds of the inhabitants of cyberspace, to the communities that have emerged around the new technologies with different goals. At the same time, specific examples were selected, in which new facts can be seen in some way, which were previously not available at all, or only to a limited extent. The last, third part is then the core of this work, to which the first two parts lead. It first describes how the already mentioned development of technologies and changes in the style of communication affect the individual, what are the benefits and consequences for him, and...

Jelínek, Pavel ; Štica, Petr (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
Pavel Jelínek Title of the thesis: A Christian view of ethical issues in agriculture Abstract: The work deals with the ethical issues of Czech agriculture. With the help of some indicators from the field of politics and sociology, the situation of Czech farmers is characterized, which can influence their ethical decisions. There are several facts that appear to be ethically problematic and require a certain position. Based on the analysis of some biblical texts and reflections on the relevant ecclesiastical documents, appropriate Christian attitudes are sought, with which it is possible to approach agriculture. The aim of the thesis is to indicate the contribution of the Christian attitude to ethical issues in agriculture, to design such an ethical orientation that will best correspond to Christian teaching in the context of current ethical dilemmas and to think about how to apply this orientation in practice. Otrubová, Ludmila ; Červenková, Denisa (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
The Concept of Death in Christianity and Islam The present bachelor's thesis investigates the approaches to the concept of death in Christian and Islam religions. For the purpose of this work, Roman-Catholic Church and Sunni faiths are compared. The thesis analyses views on death from cultural standpoints - the experience of terminal illness and dying within families and in institutions in this country as opposed to those with Islam faith prevailing, followed by the treatment of death in sacred books, the Bible and the Quran, in both the monotheistic traditions and respective religious authorities' interpretations of death. A substantial section is dedicated to burial rituals - the funeral mass in church with liturgy which are significant for the Christian tradition, and body preparation and the burial itself which are highly elaborate in the Islam tradition. An attempt is made at detecting and delimiting the main differences in burial practices. The work then introduces the various resting places of the dead, studying burial places, graves, tombs and other places of piety in the way they are decorated and the frequency at which they are visited (a matter of ongoing discussion in Islam). The work is concluded by a description of burial practices of Moslems living in the Czech Republic. Keywords...
The Christian Rejection of Animal Sacrifice and the New-Testament Conception of the Christ's Death
Vilímek, Jan ; Bouma, David (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The Christian Rejection of Animal Sacrifice and the New-Testament Conception of the Christ's Death Abstract The thesis describes the relationship between the phenomenon of the animal sacrifice and the death of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of my study, I explain the basic interpretative categories that can help answer the role and substance of the blood sacrifice practice in the context of ritual activities of the archaic civilizations. Particular attention is paid to the Old Testament cult, because the sacrificial terminology, originating from this milieu, served within the framework of the New Testament canon as one of the fundamental ways to express Jesus Christ's death mystery. The thesis follows up on modern anthropological theories of the animal sacrifice; in comparison with the specific Christian concept of the sacrifice, it shows how Christ's unritual death and forms of its appropriation by believers might be considered the fulfillment and surpassing of all existing forms of sacrifice. Keywords Animal sacrifice, Christ's death, soteriology, ritual practices, Christian explanotory schemes of sacrifice
Theological Perspectives in Cosmology of Georges Lemaître
Rejman, Daniel ; Petráček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee) ; Bouma, David (referee)
The thesis analyzes the thinking, legacy and the second life of the work of a prominent mathematician, cosmologist and the Catholic priest Georges Lemaître. The patterns of his thinking (expecting the intelligibility of the cosmos, assuming the hidden nature of God for research of natural science, seeing indeterminism in the evolution of the cosmos and separating the scientific and religious approach to reality) are presented on the basis of sources and literature based on Lemaître's texts and texts of scholars who dealt with his life and work. Everything is further complemented by the opinions of authors writing about the broader contexts of the history of cosmology and its interferencee with religion. Those long-term tendencies are drawn in more detail and further connected and compared with more general European ideas (the book of nature, the question of human free will, light as a backdrop of creation, appreciating the simplicity of hypotheses). Special emphasis is placed on the religious connotations of Lemaître's thinking - these are also presented with regard to the development of time, to which insights are further applied using modern models of the relationship between science and religion. It is the temporal transformation of that relationship within Lemaître's life path and the resulting...
Basic income and its ethical aspects: the right to exist or the right to idle?
Šenková, Eva ; Štica, Petr (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
The basic income concept is a bold, challenging, and provocative proposal. It is an income unconditionally paid by a government, at a uniform level and at regular intervals, to each adult member of society. The grant is paid irrespective of whether the person is rich or poor, lives alone or with others, is willing to work or not. It should guarantee that all recipients have sufficient material conditions for their existence. This scheme is proposed as a mechanism of distributive justice, and as a tool to combat unemployment without increasing poverty. The economic independence would secure real freedom for all - an opportunity to do what they might want to do, including the permanent idleness. Implementing the basic income is to change current economic and social realities, not only the welfare system. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find ethically relevant aspects in the argumentation of positives and negatives of a basic income and to point out problems that are related to the concept of a basic income in ethical terms.
The eucharist from Benedikt XVI. - Joseph Ratzinger's point of view
Nevělíková, Nela ; Mohelník, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bouma, David (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the concept of the Eucharist sacrament in selected writings of Joseph Ratzinger, which deal directly with the Eucharist, or in which the sacrament plays an important role. The aim of this work is to describe and evaluate how Ratzinger approaches the Eucharist, its essence, history and way of celebration. First, the use of biblical sources and citations of ancient, medieval and modern authors is analyzed in this work. In the next section, attention is paid to how Ratzinger uses the terms of the Eucharist, especially the following: sacrifice, communion, Lord's Supper. The last chapter deals with the form of the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist and the connection between its external and internal aspects, between form and content. Ratzinger views the Eucharist primarily as a sacrifice and accentuates its Christological-soteriological dimension. It is also very important for him to keep the triunity of events - the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection - which led to the establishment of the Eucharist and which only together make sense to this sacrament, in the understanding of the Eucharist.
