The Role of the civic sector in discussions on education of the Roma ethnic group children

The main question of my thesis is what role non-profit organizations play in policies regarding Roma education in the Czech Republic. The thesis includes how these non-profit organizations can influence the policy. The research focuses on small groups of NGO's that support inclusive education in unspecialized schools. NGO's are active proponents of inclusion related politics, too. The research contains interviews with representatives or employers of these organizations, and it also looks into channels that represent the use in policy-making. The document presents what activists regard as effective instruments of policy-making, and which instruments activists consider as ineffective. The thesis comprises the difficulties and struggles these non-profit organizations encounter. The study tenders examples of policy-making in small groups of organizations, as well as possible ways NGO's advocate in the Czech state system. This thesis also compares inclusive education policy-making with other fields of policy-making. To conclude, this thesis analyzes the role of non-profit organizations and their ability to exert change at a policy level.

The Cooperation of the State and NGOs on the MEDEVAC / Ukraine Program in 2014

This diploma thesis focuses on the possible cooperation between the state and NGOs on the program of medical evacuation MEDEVAC during the Ukrainian conflict in 2014. The aim of this study is to bring a coherent view on the MEDEVAC program and mainly to look into a relation between the state and NGOs which provide services to the state so they play irreplaceable role in this interaction, all through the analysis of interview with particular representatives. The study also focuses on the motivation, which both parties are entering into the relation, and advantages which the collaboration brings. The discovered findings from the research and evaluated achieved aims are placed in the conclusion of the thesis.

Civic participation of older people in the context of the University of the Third Age

The thesis "Civic participation of older people in the context of the University of the Third Age" focuses on the role of civic participation in the lives of active older people who attend the University of the Third Age. This role is examined in the context of adult education, specifically through a leisure education program, which is dedicated to educating older people, i.e. the University of the Third Age. From a demographic perspective, the elderly population will continue to grow. This will be unavoidably reflected in the development of civil society in which older people participate. This makes it relevant to pay older people as an active group more research attention. Qualitative data were collected via in-depth interviews. Attention was paid namely to the interviewees' attitudes to and experience of civic participation they have accumulated over their life course. The analysed respondents' accounts indicate that they understand participation as activities related to politics and as politically oriented activities. They attach the greatest importance to political participation. Formal participation also occurs, but the respondents do not stress this participation as they rather take it for granted.

Recruiting and selection employees in cultural NGOs.

This thesis deals with processes of recruitment and selection of employees in cultural non-profit organizations. The main goal is to describe the methods used for recruitment and selection in these organizations, compare these methods with theoretical methods and identify the specifics of recruitment and selection, which are recognized by key actors in the process. The theoretical part describes the main aprroaches to the recruitment and selection of employees, defines NGOs in general and the part of NGOs that mediate cultural activities to the public. The research uses qualitative design and depth interviews with leaders of cultural NGOs, in order to describe a method of recruiting and selecting employees and to reveal the specifics of cultural NGOs in these processes.

Volunteer Patterns in Municipality

The thesis aims to describe and analyze selected citizens' volunteer activities in a municipality. The theoretical part provides overview of theoretical concepts of volunteering and contemporary phenomenon in this area. The collective and reflexive volunteering model is introduced as a research tool focused on volunteer motivations, commitments and relations to place, tradition or organization from the sociological modernization perspective. The empirical part connects collective and reflexive volunteering concepts with praxis via the answers of informants. Using participants' perspective, the goal was to apply specific volunteer typology in the context of a municipality, perceiving it as a space which can both initiate volunteer activities as well as to be formed by them. Activism and Collective Violence: Šluknov Riots in 2011

This thesis is focused on the issue of violence in civil society. Using Charles Tilly's political theory, it attempts to point out that the emergence of collective violence can be well understood by tracing small scale causes (mechanisms), rather than large causes (poverty, extremism etc.). This argument is empirically studied in the context of anti-Roma riots that took place in Šluknov Hook, Czech republic, in the year 2011. The research is based on a broad concept of civil society, which doesn't assume fixed division between civil and uncivil subjects, but works with a number of actors, whose identity is unstable and their acting strategy fluently changes from nonviolent to violent and contra. The data show, that radical actors are generally more prone to use force. However, Tilly's theory provides opportunity to explain their influence on majority through the dynamics of relationships that is studied in this paper. Impacts of the program World of Difference on the relationship of its graduates to the organizations of the civil sector

The thesis is focused on impacts of the program World of Difference on the relationship of its graduates to the organizations of the civil sector. This paper consists of three main parts. The first one describes the theoretical definitions of the concepts connected with civil sector, organizations of the civil sector, business sector, cooperation between the sectors, values and motivation of the employees in the civil sector and management of Human Resources in civil sector. The second part is focused on methodology of the research, data analysis and the activities of the Vodafone Foundation and the program World of Difference. There are presented the outcomes of the research in the last part. The research is focused on the graduates of the program World of Difference and the fact if they remain in the civil sector after finishing the program. The research is focused on the specifics which they had to meet during the program and if they changed their opinion about the civil sector. According to the research questions, I chose the qualitative research and used methods of semi-structured in-depth interviews. Deepening democracy at the local level / Civic participation in Utrecht

This thesis focuses on the topic of active citizenship in democratic societies. An emphasis is placed on the clarification of the role of the citizen as an engaged participant in the political process at the local level. This issue is contextualized within the theory of democracy, which legitimacy is fulfilled by the citizen participation. The empirical part is devoted to the research of the citizen participation in the Dutch city of Utrecht, where the way of cooperation between citizens and public officers was investigated in the process of public policy making. The effect of democratization on the state of civil society in Cambodia between 1991 to 2015

This dissertation deals with the civil society in Cambodia, according to the democratization of the country. After the turbulent times that were full of bloody conflicts the country in 1991 initially joined the path of democracy, but soon after that the governing regime shifted the orientation of the country toward authoritarianism. This complicated situation in the country after several decades was making the existence of civil society and western type non-profit sector impossible. Also, the situation concerning civil and political freedoms in the country was very controversial. The aim of the thesis is, through a secondary source analysis to describe the structure of civil society and the obstacles that it must deal with, in the background of the democratization process of the country.
