Patočka, Miroslav ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with foreign tourism as a significant phenomenon of the Francoist regime. Despite its changing role throughout the regime, particularly manifested by a change of its propagandistic utilization in the early years towards the public diplomacy, tourism can be considered the most important instrument of soft power. It has been crucial not only for the economic development, but especially for the opening of Francoist Spain. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of tourism as such, this case study deals with a wide range of internal and international areas of economic, political and socio-cultural character, which had to be directly addressed by the tourism policies. The aim of this thesis is to study the impacts of foreign tourism and its state cultivation on the changes of the international status of Spain during the Francoist era. Its main focus will therefore be analysis of the development of tourism policies, linked to the concepts of visual promotion and structure of foreign tourists during this period. The study therefore concludes that the successful and extensive cultivation of foreign tourism, unique to the Franco regime, had significant impacts on legitimacy of the dictatorship in an international context. Foreign tourism has thus extensively contributed to the...

Wygrysová, Dominika ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
In 2016, the Great Britain became the first Member State to organize a referendum about its membership in the European Union, which led to the decision to leave it. In the much controversial campaign, which led to the vote itself, the media identified three key issues off the Membership debate: the EU economy, immigration to the Great Britain and the position of the country in the world. The media also tent to describe the debate as "filthy". One of the unusual and horrifying factors were death threats to few of the political actors, as well as assassination of the Labour politician Jo Cox. Given the context, out of the three key issues, the immigration became the most controversial one, especially because of the actions of the UKIP party. Their than chairman Nigel Farage was eager to take pictures in front of two billboards they've put up - one of which captured thousands of refugees waiting on the borders, the other one implying more than 1 million Turks could enter the country in the near future. Both of those billboards were put up to stir the fear of the migration in the country. This paper concludes of different approaches to immigration presented by the both political camps - "Leave" and "Remain". Based on the analysis of the transcripts of the eleven televised debates it describes key...

Simbartlová, Anna ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
The Master thesis "Civic Integration of Immigrants in France between 2002-2012" deals with a new integration model of civic integration which the European immigration countries have begun to enforce since the turn of the millennium. An interesting feature of this model is that it is employed by countries whose approch to the integration of immigrants significantly differed till the end of the 20th century. The goal of the thesis is to discover what character shows the civic integration as a new integration model of immigrants in Europe in the integration policies applied in France between 2002-2012. The main hypothesis is based on the theory of the return of assimilation. Its author R. Brubaker claims that in the current integration policies of (not only) European states, the assimilationist tendencies return - however, not in the original concept of assimilation, but in a new transformed concept in between assimilation and multiculturalism. The thesis applies this theory conclusion to the contemporary civic integration policies, so the research verifies its assimilationist character. According to the method specially compiled for this research, the results prove that the integration measures accepted in France between 2002-2012 show a development from a moderate to considerable assimilationist...

Based on their analysis of EU documents concerning European language policy a shift towards a focus on EU competitiveness and employment of the population, to which the knowledge of foreign languages contributes, can be traced.. Another part focuses on minority and regional languages. There is introduced the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages, which is a document of the Council of...

Šubertová Aneta Abstract My bachelor thesis, "Immigration Policy of France during the Presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy" deals with the attempts of french government to reform french immigration legislation and implement stricter immigration policy towards foreigners. They also tried to restrict immigration based on the right to family reunification, which is currently the main part of immigrants in french society. This thesis is theoretical analysis, which map and analyze the main laws that the government adopted to restrict the flow of immigration. I analyze immigration law from 2007, which should restrict family reunification and law from 2011, which implemented 3 directive of European Union into the French law. I also mention the repatriation of Roma into the country of origin. These measures provoked a stormy reaction in the professional and general public but also among deputies and Senators. France and the reform of the eurozone - from Sarkozy to Hollande
Juhás, Tomáš ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
Bibliografický záznam JUHÁS, Tomáš. France and the reform of the eurozone - from Sarkozy to Hollande. Praha, 2015. 68 s. Diplomová práce (Mgr.) Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut mezinárodních studií. Katedra západoevropských studií. Vedoucí diplomové práce Doc. JUDr. PhDr. Ivo Šlosarčík, LL.M., Ph.D. Abstract The thesis seeks to map and explain the change of mind of President François Hollande with regard to the overall austerity in the eurozone. In early 2012, the President-to-be Hollande campaigned on a wave of desire for change and his campaign promises and election program promised a radically new approach towards economic and fiscal policies in the eurozone once he became president. The most explicit manifestation of this change should have been the renegotiation of the fiscal compact, formally the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union. However, once in office, the new socialist president made very little to change the overall course of austerity at home and in the euro area. To explain this unexpected outcome, the thesis employs the sociological-political concept of the field of Eurocracy, derived from the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and developed in the French academia by Didier Georgakakis and Jay Rowell. In such context, President...
