Latinos for Trump: Presidential Elections 2020
Žabková, Marie Magdalena ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
Diploma thesis is focused on the support of Latinos voters for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Hispanics in general are more supporters of the Democratic Party, so the increased support for Donald Trump proclaimed in media after the election has been surprising for many experts and public especially regarding Trump's rhetoric and his attacks on some Hispanic prominent figures. In the thesis, I discuss whether Donald Trump gained more Latinos support in the election. I argue that Donald Trump gained more Latino support in the election. The thesis is confirmed in the theoretical and practical part based on an analysis of composition of the Hispanic electorate, pre-election, and post-election surveys and through the analysis of counties with at least 70% concentration of Hispanic population. The thesis also deals with Donald Trump's election campaign and the motivation of Latinos to vote for the Republican candidate. Donald Trump tried to reach out Hispanic voters more than in 2016 through greater funding of political spots, greater representation of Latinos in the election team, debates targeting Latinos voters and other initiatives. These moves were symbolic rather than practical in nature. The voting of Latinos for Donald Trump was probably influenced by external factors - the...
Comparison of Motivation and the Course of Collaboration in Lithuania and Latvia
Žabková, Marie Magdalena ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of collaboration in Lithuania and Latvia - specifically the motivation and course of collaboration of part of the population during the Second World War with the Nazi regime. In both Baltic countries, over 90% of the original Jewish population has been exterminated and most of it by the end of 1941. Collaboration has affected the extent and speed of implementing the final solution of the Jewish question in the Baltics. The first part is devoted to the political-historical context with regard to the Holocaust in both countries. This section discusses the circumstances that had a clear impact on the Baltic society, namely pre-war anti-Semitism, Soviet occupation and Nazi occupation. In the next part, the thesis analyzes pogroms, functioning of collaborative units and their structure. The last part focuses on motives that have been significantly reflected in society in Lithuania and Latvia. The thesis concludes that the Baltic countries differed in the level of pre-war anti- Semitism, the adoption of German occupation by political leadership, the size of pogroms and the structure of collaborative units.
Regional organizations and the fight against terrorism: a comparison of systems of the Council of Europe and the Organization of American States
Žabková, Marie ; Bílková, Veronika (advisor) ; Šturma, Pavel (referee)
The aim of my thesis is both to describe the steps of the OAS and the Council of Europe in the fight against terrorism and also to compare their approach in this area. The thesis is divided into four chapters, which are further subdivided into three parts. The first two parts of each chapter describe the steps of each organization separately, the third part compares their approach and puts it into the context. The first chapter examines the reasons for which these organizations decided to implement the fight against terrorism on their agendas and maps the adoption of the first international instruments. Although the time scale of the activity in this area rather overlaps, I point out the different approaches of the two organizations in terms of the adopted counter- terrorism conventions. The following chapter is devoted to the period after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, when a review of existing documents took place and the counter-terrorism cooperation between the countries of both regions was intensified. In this chapter, I discuss in detail the newly adopted international tools and compare their impact on the existing regulation. In the third chapter, I try to outline new areas of interest in the field of counter- terrorism. The focus is shifted to the issues like financing of...
