The Czech Crossword Dictionaries

The aim of this master's thesis is to investigate the concept of crossword dictionaries. The thesis provides a list of Czech crossword dictionaries and delves into their historical background. The theoretical section discusses the structure of these dictionaries and explores their position within the lexicographical typology. The practical portion focuses on analyzing the entries found in selected crossword dictionaries (Křížovkářský slovník by Černovský and Vinduška; Křížovkářům do kapsy by Kramář a Jelínek), comparing them with that of two monolingual dictionaries: the Příruční slovník jazyka českého (Handbook of the Czech Language) and the Akademický slovník současné češtiny (Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech). Use of data from Latvian frequency dictionaries in the forthcoming Latvian-Czech bilingual dictionary

The aim of this work is explicitly stated in its title: our aim is to apply data from the frequency dictionaires of Latvian language, available in specialized, ie frequency dictionaries, or more recently directly from corpora, in a specific lexicographic project: the upcoming Latvian-Czech dictionary. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part will contain an introduction to the issues of corpus linguistics in Latvia and Czech Republic, a description of sources, a description of the material base (four different materials - two printed sources, two electronic sources) and a comparison of the current situation in corpus linguistics / lexicography in Latvia and the Czech Republic. The second, practical part is focused on the application of the obtained data and their description. An inseparable part of the practical part is the presentation of the obtained data together with a sample dictionary entry. Corpus analysis of chosen Latvian somatisms

This corpus-based diploma thesis deals with the analysis of selected Latvian somatisms containing the keywords galva, kāja and roka, using principally data from the parallel corpus InterCorp v11. The aim of the thesis is to identify corpus categories and creative alterations of Latvian somatisms, as well as determine how they can be translated to Slovak and Czech. The theoretical part comprises an introduction to the fields of phraseology, cognitive and corpus linguistics; a description of the features of idioms as well as their classification; and a demonstration of the differences between phraseological terms in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Latvia and the West. The practical part focuses on the analysis of patterns in the context of somatisms, the assessment of creative alterations in comparison with linguistics textbooks, and finding translation equivalents in Slovak and Czech.
Non-periphrastic and Periphrastic Tenses in Latvian and their Equivalence in Czech

This bachelor thesis deals with the verb tenses in Czech language and simple and complex tenses in Latvian language. In the theoretical part is described, how tenses are constructed, when they are used and also what relation they have to verb aspect. Complex tenses of indicative are analysed in detail in the empirical research. The goal of research, which is based on processed data from Czech National Corpus, is to find out, how the czech translators translate complex tenses from Latvian to Czech and also how latvian translators translate verbs in past, present and future tenses from Czech to Latvian.

The primary aim of this work is to classify the Latvian lexicon, or better its relevant segment, into individual groups, definable semantically, grammatically, syntagmatically, pragmatically, and so on, and to attempt to find for these classifications an ideal method of lexicographical adaptation and apply it to an emerging Latvian-Czech dictionary (the very first manual of its type). To this end, modern instruments were utilized which, in the recent past, have radically altered the methodology of lexicographical work: on the one hand, the linguistic corpora, which nowadays represent authentic, linguistic usage and, on the other hand, the specialized lexicographic software TshwaneLex, in which a lexical database of Latvian is constructed and from which the dictionary itself will be subsequently constructed. Because of the limited size of the Latvian corpus it was not possible to completely eliminate traditional sources, and the author of the work was forced to consolidate traditional and modern lexicographical methods.
