Between the hammer and the anvil. The authoritarian apparatus of the Pardubice demesne between 1560 and 1630
Růžková, Zuzana ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Ďurčanský, Marek (referee)
and keywords This thesis deals with the topic of authoritarian apparatus of chamber estate of Pardubice between 1560 -1630. It represents not only the structure and form of bureaucratic machinery, duties and competences of its representatives, but also their influence in the context of the estate. Very important role is played not only by relation between the machinery and superior authorities, but also its contact and communication with local administrations and residents of the estate themselves. Interest is also devoted to personalities of some representatives of officials whose life stories are discussed in the individual chapters. The thesis also follows manifestations of chosen trends in early modern history and its reflection to the environment of the estate - especially the process of bureaucratization, professionalization and extent of (in)discipline of bureaucracy. Very important is also the question how much the reality of official practise was equal with provisions and requirements proclaimed in instructions and regulations. Keywords: authoritarian apparatus, official machinery, rules versus reality

This thesis deals with life of mercenaries during the Thirty Years' War. It is focused on the situation in central Europe and especially in the Czech lands. The main part of the thesis concentrates on the appearance of military camps which is reconstructed based on normative sources, ego-documents, folk songs and period artistic literature, paintings and drawings. To introduce the topic I describe various types of soldiers in the Habsburg army and the subordination of the army. One chapter is meant to work as a guide through the life of a mercenary - about his living in the army from his recruitment up to his discharge. We mention the material equipment and soldiers clothing as well. Women were a usual part of the army, therefore I also pay attention to them. The main topic of the work is military camp, therefore a description of its appearance is given, describing the arrangement of all its parts. I mention tents, markets and inns. I also deal with camp life's negatives, for example with diseases or activities condemned by the contemporary moral. Military law is briefly described as well. I also mention administrative officers who are responsible for the aspects of military life related to the camps. In the end there is also integrated a chapter about the civilian view on mercenaries and the war...

Municipal administration and offices in the Middle Elbe region during the Thirty Years' War
Ďurčanský, Marek ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čornejová, Ivana (referee) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
The operation of municipal offices and municipal administration in general was not a too popular topic in Czech historiography. Even this aspect of the life of Czech towns was strongly influenced by the persecution of Czech estates after the battle on the White Mountain and following processes with the gravity centre in the third decade of the 17th century, as well as by the direct and indirect consequences of military actions. Research in such area can also enrich our knowledge of many aspects of contemporary city life and contribute to a better explanation of such consequential phenomena as emigration and recatholicization. The municipal councils and municipal offices can often be named as nervus rerum in these circumstances. To elaborate the problems of military influences on administration in the times of the Thirty Years' War fully is not possible without more detailed studies about the situation of particular municipal offices. This kind of research would enable us to compare several regions. But there is a lack of such studies. The way out can be found by using proper surveys of the situation of several towns. Such probes would outline basic tendencies and phenomena, or the key questions for the subsequent research, such as: a) the extent and structure of the bodies of municipal administration and...
