Populism: a phenomenon of current democracy

The main motivation of this master thesis is to clarify the normative relation between populism and liberal democracy. The task is not to express a normative statement about populism or liberal democracy, but only to explain the relation between those two concepts. Very common topic about populism is the question if populism represents a corrective or a threat to liberal democracy. The procedure in this thesis is quite straightforward. First of all, the reader will learn about the phenomenon of populism, a part of its history and the reasons why is populism coined as a contested concept. After, there is a clarification of populism for the context of this thesis and a choice of the most useful method that will help us achieve the final goal. As a follow-up, the reader learns more general information about populism. The intent is to explain concepts and goals that are most associated with populism. These include, for example, the people, the elite, the leader, or direct democracy. After clarifying populism and how we approach it, we will shift our focus onto liberal democracy. Here we will proceed in similar way as in the case of populism. As soon as we introduce everything necessary to grasp the idea of liberal democracy, we will deal with the goal of this thesis. Relationship between Attachment and Aspects of Mental Health of Adolescent Girls in Institutional Educational Care

The topic of interconnection between attachment and selected aspects of mental health has not been sufficiently covered yet, both on the theoretical and research level. The following dissertation contributes to bridging this gap by examining the attachment prevalence among adolescent girls in institutional educational care in Czech Republic and analyzing the attachment types of these girls to their close people, especially parents, and relationship with certain factors of their mental health. The aim of this dissertation is to map and analyze connection between attachment and selected factors of mental health of the monitored girls and to suggest a schematic model of the risk indicators of mental health. The dissertation consists of theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part analyzes and summarizes the knowledge related to attachment and selected aspects of mental health, especially to trauma and dissociation states, suicidal behaviour, substance use, or resilience. The empirical part identifies the attachment type of monitored girls with the help of ECR-RS - research tool and analyzes the connections with the risk phenomena of mental health with the help of other tools. Stock Portfolio Selection and Analysis

The main aim of the thesis is to perform portfolio selection based on principles of Markowitz portfolio theory using ex-post approach, CAPM model, three factor and five factor Fama-French model and to compare their achieved performance with each other and with their expectd values. Intensity of relationship between equity risk premiums and each of the factors - premiums is estimated using linear regression analysis, followed by evaluation of quality of models based on regression results. Eventually, optimal portfolio for each model is selected and empirically tested. The outcome determines which portfolio performance was the best and the most accurate.

The rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt: causes and consequences

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The main task of this thesis is to describe historical and ideological development of the Muslim Brotherhood. Another task of this work is to describe specific goals and actions of the Brotherhood in the context of political system and civic society of Egypt. This thesis also describes the main characters and events, which influenced course and development of this Islamic movement. In the first part it considers times of Egyptian monarchy, than it moves to description of the presidential regimes of Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak and ends with post-revolution development of Egypt. Besides the whole historical context of the movement thesis also takes on the topic of ideological clash inside the Muslim Brotherhood. This clash, between the more conservative old-guard and young reformist's about the views of the Brotherhood, which was most of the time dominated by the old-guard, eventually resulted in meeting the wishes of the younger generation, which led to the political participation of the Muslim Brotherhood. The aim of this thesis is to assess the possibility of increasing utility properties shard of sanitary ceramics. Description the current production of sanitary ceramics. Assessing of the impact steatite admixture into existing raw material mixture for the production of sanitary ceramics firing body characteristics (porosity, strength, thermal expansion) using the available scientific literature. Proposition the optimal dose of steatite material into the raw mixture. Evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of the resulting products of this recipe.

The target of the project is to get acquainted with parameters of magnetic sensors for impulse measurements and of atmospheric pressure sensors. Furthermore there is necessary to choose a proper microcontroller and LCD for measured values displaying. The equipment for bicycling will be projected and constructed afterwards. It will allow to display information on moved distance and also on its superelevation. All data will be stored in the memory. The project also includes microcontroller-PC communication by USB and data transmission from the memory.

Value-at-Risk as the basis of modern risk management

The thesis discusses a relatively modern method of measuring market risk - Value at Risk, which is widely used in the area of risk management. The thesis in the first section deals with risk, particularly financial risk and its dividing. The aim of the second section is to familiarize the reader with the concept of Value at Risk, why and where Value at Risk is used, what are the advantages and disadvantages. This section also includes methods of calculating Value at Risk. Third section contains practical part which analyzes input data and demonstrates application of different methods of calculation. The section also includes verification of the calculation model used.

Bond valuation theory

The bachelor thesis discusses the theory of bond valuation with a focus on traditional coupon and zero-coupon bonds without embedded options. Introduction specifies author's objectives and methods, which are used to fulfil these objectives. Theoretical part explains the concept of bond and analyses its individual attributes, such as price, yield and risk. The part with the practical application of the theory contains the description of data obtained from Thomson Reuters Eikon trading platform followed by the demonstration of yield and risk measurements and the valuation of my exemplary bond, which is Czech sovereign bond with a fixed coupon rate issued in the national currency. Conclusion evaluates the achievement of objectives and the potential utilization of results in praxis.
