The difficulties of POV based films
Jankovec, Kryštof ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (advisor) ; ČIHÁK, Martin (referee)
Lately we can observe a large boom of POV films. This phenomenon can be attributed especially to technological advances. Thanks to home video and Internet content we have access to a huge amount of films utilizing hand-held first person view camera. Filmmakers embrace this method for several reasons. It allows them to work in an original way using a story telling method that can give the film an unprecedented sense of authenticity. We do not initially consider video, where the camera is in the hands of the protagonist, as a professional film and we get the sense of really encountering "reality" on the screen. Shooting such a film naturally requires considerably less financial resources. Precise lighting, choice of camera angles and its movements as well as casting famous actors would violate the sense of reality being created and would thus be counter-productive. Camera set into a first-person view seemingly places us into the body of the main character. This is a new experience for the audience and it enables them to experience situations "hands on". However this method encounters many limitations in the area of classic storytelling techniques in cinematography, which the audience has been habituated to for more than a hundred years, may it be in the area of directing, camerawork, editing or sound design. These limitations greatly restrict the ability of the author to express himself and his intentions. In this thesis I would like to reveal these limitations but also find ways to compensate for them.

Eschatology of the Film Strip
Týmal, František ; ČIHÁK, Martin (advisor) ; BREGANT, Michal (referee)
The film industry has been recently undergoing a significant technological change, which has made the traditional film strip an obsolete medium. The thesis called "Eschatology of the Film Strip" tries to define the basic differences between the photochemical and the electronical tradition of the moving image, and critically asses the transformation of the market. The thesis draws attention to many paradoxes caused by the pressured implementation of digital technologies, and argues for the classical photochemical film as a creative tool in it's own terms, able to find it's habitat in the context of fine arts. The author reflects upon the possibilities of new uses for the film strip and introduces the research project Kinoaparat.cz, focused on enlightenment in the field of traditional film art and technology.

Polenský, Tomáš ; ČIHÁK, Martin (advisor) ; BAGDASAROV, Georgy (referee)
Photochemical transformation is a process of transforming latent image on film into a visible picture. Bachelor thesis called Photochemical transformation of cinema image justifies this process as a creative tool. This tool influences an art design of film a lot. In theoretical part I analyse this film-making tool in my own work and also in films Aus Der Ferne - The Memo Book by Matthias Müller and Passion by Jürgen Reble. Practical part focuses on reversal processing. It describes the ways of modifying film image by photochemical transformation. This section also contents results of experiments with filmctock Kodak Tri-X 7266.
Reflection of world in virtual infinity
Krutský, Dominik ; ŠERÝ, Ladislav (advisor) ; ČIHÁK, Martin (referee)
Relation between humans and latest technical principles are forming rignt now. From my point of view, supported with literature are these fatal changes, interrelated just with formation total surroundings of virtual world, very often disregarded. In history overview, was art the major "record" in which the image of human being was best descirbed for current observers same as for next generations. The work should not find out a final solution for this complicated phenomen. Reason for choosing theme - Reflection of world in virtual infinity - is just my need to confront this question.
