The current state of affairs and future of museum's libraries in Prague

(in English): The thesis describes the current situation and possible development of museum libraries in Prague. Its aim is to assess the current state of museum libraries in Prague, using a questionnaire survey accomplished in early 2011. In the descriptive part of the thesis is first briefly mentioned the history and basic legislation of museum libraries in Prague. Then follows a detailed description of the current state according to the specifics (founders, focus and scope of the collections, acquisition and processing of library collections, services and access to the collections, digitization, library presentation on the Internet, the current methods of financing options for museum libraries, library position within the museum etc.), activities and cooperation of the museum libraries in Prague and the illustrated examples of four museum libraries in Prague (National Museum Library, Library of the Jewish Museum in Prague, Library of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and Library of National Technical Museum). In further part of the thesis is described in detail survey questionnaire method based on established facts and summary by the current state of museum libraries in Prague and their respective strengths and weaknesses. (in English): The thesis presents overview of current state of museum libraries in Bohemia. It relies on the results of questionnaire specifically made for this purpose. Focus is also on library collections of museum libraries (acquisition, processing, accessibility and conservation), self-presentation of libraries on Internet, means of financing of such institutions and their activities. The thesis also overviews history of museum libraries on the case of four individual institutions, legal regulations pertaining to them and to their collections, as well as cooperation possibilities between other museum libraries, general libraries or other institutions. The thesis concludes with resume of strengths and weaknesses of current state of affairs in the field and anticipates future development of museum libraries. Digital library Kramerius and its use by students of historical sciences

The thesis focuses on the digital library Kramerius, that provides electronic access to mainly Bohemian documents from 19th and 20th century. Its aim is not to describe all parts of this system and its hinterland - the thesis focuses rather on the user point of view. The core of the thesis is formed by user survey, which is conducted among the students of historical disciplines at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, namely the students enrolled in the study programme Historical sciences. In the first part, there is a characteristic of digital library Kramerius with the focus on the aspects, that are closely related with its usability (user interface, accessibility of documents, conversion of the original documents to machine- readable form). The user survey, which is described in the second part, is devided into two parts.

The thesis "The book printers Jiří Jakubův Dačický and Jan Othmar Jakubův Dačický" deals with the lives and printing activities of the named book printers, who worked in the Old Town in Prague at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. The thesis is based on the primary and secondary sources and preserved old prints from their production. Its aim is to clarify unknown parts of the history of the book printing in Prague and to discuss its unjustly neglected printing workshops. The text is divided into five main parts. The first one deals with the careers of the named printers and with the analysis of their private and professional lives. The second part interests in their printing production. The prints were divided into thematic groups and described according to literary-historical and library scientifical aspects. The studied prints were examined in their relationship to their previous and subsequent publications by other printers, too. The third part is the typological- typographical analysis. Here the autor focuses on typographical form of the prints, used typesetting, decorating, etc. The aim was not only to register used typographical material of the studied printers in time, but also to find out how much these (and possibly other contemporary) printing works cooperated,...

The bachelors thesis describes services of Jewish Museum in Prague offered to visitors and explorers. Introduction describes the museum as a cultural and informational institute, as well as summarizes Judaism in Czech Republic. This body of thesis has two parts: First part includes general description of Jewish Museum in Prague, its importance, history, facilities, speciality, and cultural-educational activities. In the second part there is a detailed description of selected projects, departments and special divisions, which author chose for importance and informational character of their services. It describes the relation of the book printing, humanism and the Wittenberg university, printers and Martin Luther, and summarises the censorship acts of the emperor and the catholic church.
Travel Illustration in the Etching Collection of The Kinsky Library

The master thesis is focused on the mapping and detailed description of the books containing travel illustrations in the etching collection of The Kinsky Library. The thesis deals with the history of The Kinsky Library and general characteristic of the book collection, and examines in detail the etching collection. The pictorial works on the topic of travelling were selected from the etching collection in the very beginning. The selected books from the etching collection are listed in the inventory, which is the outcome the thesis. The book inventory reflects the technical aspects of illustrations in the selected books (printing process, size of the illustrations and names of the artists). The thesis is also focused on travelling and aesthetics of nature at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
