Media promotion of a music festival on social networks and Internet
Režný, Daniel ; Čermák, Miloš (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
I have chosen the topic of my thesis - music festivals promotion on social networks and the Internet - for one simple reason. I have been interested in the activities and events on the music scene for a long time, I am a team member of the band Wohnout and in the summer festivals are my daily bread. As soon as the weather gets warmer, the music business begins producing different events in large quantities. Every week dozens of various concerts and music events take place all around the country, ranging from small local ones to large cultural events of nationwide importance. The aim of my thesis is not only to describe the way a festival " gets to people" in general, but to show how cultural events and the media may be interconnected and how /or if they can profit from this cooperation. I was also trying to find out how the media partnership between a festival and a medium affects the content of the news related to the topic presented in the medium, and if there exist some unwritten rules that the two "partners" keep to and that could be problematic from the point of view of journalism ethics.

The last, but not least important part of this part of this work is the comparison between the new forms of TV coverage distribution in Hong Kong and Central Europe. The practical part consists of the analysis of the survey based on participation of 70 Facebook users who answered questions on whether they watch tv news or which form of signal distribution are they subscribed to at home. The results of this survey are particulary interesting as the sample was aged between 18-25...

Paywalls and the future of journalism
Novotný, Jan ; Čermák, Miloš (advisor) ; Švelch, Jaroslav (referee)
The Master's diploma thesis examines the phenomenon of imposing paywalls on news content. By using qualitative interview research, case studies, theoretical and empirical analysis the thesis emphasizes mainly the differences between individual ways of imposing paywalls and also factors that can influence the process of implementing paywalls. Hypothesis claims that imposing paywalls on existing free content can serve as an incentive on the media market to reach a growing productivity of media enterprises in spite of a booming popularity of sharing free information. It depends whether the right business model is implemented. According to the hypothesis the right model is "metered model" that responds to the nature of the internet and implies that certain amount of content would remain free of charge. Both paid and free content spheres should have to be redefined by new ergonomy and new journalistic content.

Žižková, Markéta ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Čermák, Miloš (referee)
This thesis deals with the change, which in 2007 underwent a major Czech news weekly magazine Respekt. The magazine has undergone since 1990, when it published its first issue, several changes which have shaped its present form. This thesis, however, is going to deal only with dramatic changes magazine experienced in 2007. That time it transformed from newspaper format to full-color magazine format. It changed its graphics significantly. But it also changed the content of the magazine. New sections were added, the editors began to process the new topics that had not appeared in the journal before or had been present in a shorter extent. This paper first describes the magazine as it appeared before the format change in 2007 - the graphic format as well as the content. Then it describes the change of format detaily. It examines the reasons leading to it, describing the circumstances that surrounded it, including the escalation of the situation when almost the entire editorial staff would have liked to leave Respect because of the opposition leadership. It deals with the economic impact of the change. Subsequently, it describes a new form. The conclusion evaluates the shape of news and journalism in magazine Respekt after the change. It describes which defeats and victories it brought.
