An Analysis of Unemployment in Poland and the Czech Republic

The subject-matter of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of unemployment in the Czech Republic and Poland with a main focus on long-term unemployment which has a negative effect on an individual as well as on the state's economy. The major goal of this thesis is to compare the development and structure of unemployment in both countries from different perspectives by using appropriate statistical methods. The first part focuses on a clarification of terms such as unemployment. The second part of this paper compares the basic and common characteristics of the countries. The next part is devoted to the theory of the statistical methods which are use in the analytical part. Based on the data taken from Eurostat and the Czech Statistical Office in the year 1998--2013 is in the analytical part used the Analysis of Variance, analysis of trend and forecast of the long-term unemployment by using the exponential smoothing method. The bachelor thesis provides a compact insight into problems of unemployment in the Czech Republic and Poland.
Comparison of unemployment in the Moravian-Silesian Region and in the capital city Prague in 2005-2009

Unemployment is one of the major economic problems of today. Bachelor thesis compares unemployment in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the city of Prague. These regions are chosen because they Moravian-Silesian Region has long been regarded as the region with the highest unemployment rates and Prague with the lowest unemployment rate in the Czech Republic. The aim of this work is to analyze the evolution of unemployment in both regions and individual districts Moravian-Silesian Region in the years 2005-2013 from several perspectives. The work is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part deals with the characteristics of both the studied regions, concepts related to unemployment and time series. The second, practical part analyzes unemployment using appropriate statistical methods. The data is obtained from the public portal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
How to lie with statistics

This paper describes the misleading in statistical research and its incorrect presentation. It concentrates on presentation of statistical research, what is the most common source of misunderstanding of statistical results by public and by professionals. The basic factors, which influence the statistical research, is described within theoretical part of this paper. The particular examples, which demonstrates incorrect statistical approach and misleading presentation of statistical research, is presented within analytical part of this work.
State of Millenium Development Goals programme

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the status of compliance with the MDGs, which the United Nations committed itself to meet by 2015. These objectives concern the biggest problems associated with developing regions, which include poverty, public health, environmental protection and, ultimately, global economic cooperation. The first part outlines the history of the development program of the MDGs. In the second part are then defined the selected indicators that are linked to objectives and also is there described the methodology of their calculation. The actual evaluation of the objectives is based on these indicators and quantifying is made on the basis of official data sets published by the United Nations, the World Bank and other associated organizations.
Analysis of deferred consumption and ensuring financial flows in the future

The aim is to define and analyze the relation and the optimal diversification of consumption and savings of households using current products in financial markets (mainly in the Czech Republic). Expected output is not only a list and description of products and ensuring of funding, but also the specific provision of financial flows in the future for a model household.

This thesis describes the survival analysis, exactly Kaplan-Meier estimate. A main part of the thesis deals with the problem of censored data, which is typical for survival analysis. The empirical part describes lenght of PhD studies at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics and their "survival" in studies by Kaplan-Meier curves. First are analyzed uncensored data and then the whole data set (censored and uncensored data).
Long-term development of indicators of quality of life in developing countries

The aim of this thesis is to find out whether the quality of life in developing countries has increased over the last decades. The thesis is based on own calculations - modeling the trend of time series from the World Bank database - and affects most of the major problems which are specific to developing countries, such us high mortality rates, poverty, corruption and many others. In the first part of the thesis developing countries from three continents are selected, indicators in the field of demography, economics and sociology are characterized and data and methods are described. In the second part the trend of times series of selected indicators is modeled that allows benchmarking in space and time.
Analysis of results in the Statistics course, 4ST201

The main objective of my bachelor thesis is to describe the discrepancy of students' results in the Statistics course, 4ST201. I hope to highlight the differences of student results between the winter semester of 2010/2011, summer semester of 2010/2011, and the winter semester of 2011/2012, during which a new structure of final examination was introduced. I will begin with a detailed discussion and analysis of results between the three aforementioned testing periods, and I hope to conclude by offering a hypothesis of discrepancies between the old and new testing structures.
Evaluation of quality of life in terms of poverty rates

This bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of quality of life in terms of poverty rates. The aim is to define how social conditions of population affect subjective perceptions of quality of life. The paper provides an overview of the most important researches in this area, of which Survey on perception of quality of life in 75 European cities and survey Income and Living Conditions are analysed in detail. The dependence of a problem of poverty on other social indicators is investigated. The last chapter is devoted to calculations of poverty rates, especially at risk of poverty rate, but there are other indicators of poverty mentioned in terms of income inequality. In the summary, there is a poverty index presented as one possible indicator of social quality of life.
Statistical analysis of results from the subject 4ST201

The main goal of this bachelor thesis is the statistical comparison of results from students who attended the course Statistika at the University of Economics in Prague. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part is concentrated on the results of students in winter semester of the academic year 2011/2012. This part is mainly focused on mid-term tests throughout semester. In the second part I compare results of students in the summer and winter semester, to this comparison I used data from summer semeseter 2010/2011 and data from winter semester 2011/2012. The small theoretical overview does not miss in the beginning and in the conclusion we can find the summary of all findings and calculations.
