Knihovny a nové modely šíření vědění

Knihovny jako pouhá skladiště knih začínají být minulostí. Nové modely akumulace šíření lidských vědomostí nahrazují a rozšiřují tradiční tištěné publikace jako jediné médium. Důsledky těchto změn se týkají ekonomiky šíření informací, kulturní role knihoven i funkcí, které knihovny plní.

Vědo, tady veřejnost, otevřete!

Říkali mi, stačí 2-3 stránky, tak jsem sedla k internetu a pustila se do hledání materiálů, z kterých bych tu seminárku dala dohromady. Díky otevřenému přístupu (Open Access) a znalostem, kde hledat, jsem do druhého dne měla tolik článků, že bych na jejich základě mohla sepsat knihu. Víte i vy, kde získat kvalitní odborné informace pro vaši školní/vědeckou práci?

Otevřená data a kam s nimi?

V zájmu vědecké komunity a veřejnosti jsou kromě otevřeného přístupu k plným textům také mimo jiné otevřená data. Tzv. Open Data zefektivňují nejen výměnu informací a šetří finance, ale umožňují také větší transparentnost ve vědecké komunikaci. Otevřená data se v posledních několika letech stávají trendem, který se rozmáhá napříč jednotlivými vědeckými obory. Příspěvek se zaměří na představení iniciativy k otevřeným datům, představí termín Enhanced publication a především ukáže příklady vybraných datových repozitářů.

Vybrané právní aspekty Open Access

Příspěvek se zaměří praktické právní problémy související s aplikováním otevřeného přístupu k vědeckým textům. Pozornost tak bude zejména věnována licencím Creative Commons a jejich využívání v OA, právním aspektům budování zeleného OA repozitáře a problematice autoarchivace. Tyto otázky budou adresovány z pozice autora, instituce a komerčních vydavatelů. Teoretická diskuse výše naznačených problémů bude doplněna praktickými příklady a zkušenostmi z budování OA repozitáře na Masarykově univerzitě.

Open Access in Horizon 2020 and the European Research Area

This presentation provides an overview of the open access activities of the European Commission as a policy maker and major funder of scientific research through the FP7 and Horizon 2020 framework programmes as well as activities in the European Research Area (ERA). Furthermore the Commission also encourages national policy initiatives on access to, dissemination and preservation of scientific information.

Grey literature: from hidden to visible

Grey literature is information produced on all levels of government, academics, business and industry in electronic and print formats not controlled by commercial publishing i.e. where publishing is not the primary activity of the producing body. (Luxembourg, 1997 - Expanded in New York, 2004, on WWW: http://www.greynet.org/index.html) The role of grey literature in today society was well expressed by Vaska: “It is therefore remarkable how efforts over the past two decades have altered originally preconceived notions of grey literature, resulting in a deeper understanding of how the formation, retrieval, and use of non-traditional material becomes a fundamental companion in one’s research endeavors. The advent and use of new technologies, a prevalent trend in 21st century society, has created increasing awareness of the need to incorporate the grey alongside the white, a boundary that is becoming less distinct and which may become translucent in the not-too-distant future.” (Vaska, 2010) Centralized collecting grey literature started more than thirty years ago. During period 1980 - 2005 non-profit network EAGLE (European Association for Grey Literature Exploitation) created for the acquisition, identification and dissemination of grey literature SIGLE (System for Information on Grey Literature in Europe) database. Nowadays the GreyNet International is a leading organization in dialog, research, and communication between persons and organizations in the field of grey literature. Central access to grey literature is provided by OpenGrey database. OpenGrey is a unique repository providing open access to European grey literature references. OpenGrey is based on the OpenSIGLE/SIGLE database which contains almost 700 thousand records of grey literature. As a multidisciplinary database it covers Science, Technology, Biomedical Science, Economics, Social Science and Humanities. National Repository of Grey Literature will be introduced during the workshop as an example of grey literature on national level.

New roles of libraries in Teaching, Learning and Research

The Open Access movement started as an answer to the ‘journals crisis’ and has developed into worldwide initiatives to speed up and renew the process of scholarly communication and to improve the access to research publications and data. Open Access is currently being promoted by researchers and librarians, but also by university boards, national governments, funding bodies and the European Commission. The development of University mandates, Open Access Journals, institutional and subject repositories will be discussed. The focus will be on the developments in Europe and on the involvement and role of research libraries. Experiences with repositories learn that it is important that the deposit of publications is integrated in the workflow of the researcher and that repositories are seamlessly linked with the research information system. It is a great challenge to renovate the process of scholarly communication in such a way that open access can be provided to scholarly information, with maintaining the principles of quality control, certification and peer review. Research communities can play a key role in the development of new models and the creation of sustainable solutions, but leadership of university managers is essential to pave the way and to create the conditions for change.
