Aerodynamic design of racing car engine air intake
Galáš, Jáchym ; Havran, Edmund (oponent) ; Popela, Robert (vedoucí práce)
This study employs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to compare the aerodynamic performance of two distinct designs for race car and sports car engine air inlets: a NACA-style submerged inlet and a roof scoop. These designs represent two prevalent approaches in race car and sports car aerodynamics, each offering unique advantages and challenges. For an engine, one of the key factors in its performance is the pressure under which the air is delivered into the combustion chamber. For this reason, it is important to design the inlet so that the pressure losses are as low as possible. The results provide a better understanding of the two design philosophies which are then compared and possible improvements and solutions for further iterations are proposed.
