School, the Foundation of Life – a Complex of Educational Buildings in Ostrava, Cerna louka
Slavíková, Barbora ; Halfar, Jiří (referee) ; Mikulášek, David (advisor)
The location of Černá louka is situated between the city-centre of Moravská Ostrava and an area of Slezská Ostrava next to the confluence of two rivers – Ostravice and Lučina. The development at the building site of Černá louka is a result from an international competition 2010, which winner was the project Culture Meadow from studio Maxwan. The main idea of the project is to concentrate cultural and educational buildings around a culture meadow. This design has been used as a default situation for the master´s thesis. The complex of schools is situated at the parcel of existing Miniuni-site between cultural cluster Černá louka and the residential quarter Nová Karolina. The volume of the school with its front-spaces reacts to the surrounding structures. In the middle of the complex arises a half-public open space, where are located the internal entrances. Because of the placing of the school next to the city-centre the multifunctional pitch is situated on the roof of the gym. The design of the school respects principles of the age differentiation just as the horizontal integration. That´s why the substance makes up a symbiosis of 5 parts - common space, gym, first and second level, gymnasium. These parts are connected together and at the same time enable to use individual parts separately. The building of kindergarten with its garden is separated from the school because of differential needs of the smallest children.

Parter under the building is public and building is situated on the most frekvent place, where the footpath are crossing. Theme of the diploma thesis is architectural study of school buildings in Ostrava. It combines a kindergarten, primary and secondary school – a grammar school. The school is situated next to the cultural cluster Černá louka in Ostrava – the new designed cultural center of the city, and also on the bank of the river Ostravice. The main idea is adaptation of the scale of school spaces due to children of a different age, an orientation of classrooms to south-east and at the same time to the river bank. The kindergarten is separated from service and volume of the school, the primary school and the grammar school are united in one two- and three-store building with an inner yard. The buildings are accessible for pupils from an entrance square near Černá louka, the entrance for public is situated on the new designed street connecting Černá louka and Nová Karolina. The complex offers also sport facilities, a gym, a swimming pool and exterior sport ground which is accessible from the cycling track along the river Ostravice. The exterior look of the buildings is based on the construction, the reinforced concrete structure from white architectural concrete, and is animated by shading panels from corten sheets.

I see free "green" plot next to Černá louka like the most suitable place for my solution of the project. the most important point of my concept was to divide dirty services and cleen services of the complex of educational buildings. The "dirty" parts are located to the main road with trams, cars and pedestrian path. "Clean" one is oriented to the river Ostravice and green more quiet location. From the aspect of functions, the complex is divided to three main parts (kindergarten, the primary school and technical lyceum) and additional functions also offered for public (gym and school canteen). The kindergarten is separated from the service and volume of the main hall of primary and secondary school, because of the special needs and private of the small kids. The main hall for the primary school and technical lyceum is huge hall with concrete folded plate roof. This space has universal use like social connecting place, playground, education, cultural events.

The goal of diploma thesis was design of educational building complex in Ostrava, Černá louka. Design is divided into two buildings- the main building(primary and secondary school) and kindergarden building. Main entrance into the complex is oriented to the catchment area - new living in Nová Karolina. Subsidence of the Kindergarten object creates landscaped space in front of schools. The green belt for sport and recreation was preserved along the river. Form the main object corresponds with the surrounding buildings - closed block with an inner atrium. The block opens and decreases towards the river, as well as kindergarten object. The facade of the building is special architectural concrete with the ability to clean the air - pierced around the windows. Gllass is used towards atrium and the river. Colours facade is enlivened by yellow surfaces lining by the windows, for common areas are used flat glass glossy green panels. Operation of the main building is divided into 4 units. Primary school is oriented towards the river and it is typical for square classrooms and a large corridor. Secondary school, coupled with the high school is located in 2nd and 3rd floor in the atrium arrangement of corridors with classrooms. Next part is gymnasium oriented to the Černá louka. Facilities of the school is located in the 1st floor. The dominant element is spatially banked dining room that opens into the atrium.

Things, processes and phenomena are more and more risky. It is important to deal with security education since childhood. Law determines that primary school teachers are supposed to deal with this issue to make children develop these habits, skills and acquire necessary knowledge since their early childhood. The aim of this work is to elicit whether the system introduced in our school system in 2003 works.
Completion of the Construction of Slovanské náměstí Elementary School
Fajkusová, Kateřina ; Kunc, Ing Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor) ; Švecová, Táňa (advisor)
The project deals with an optimization of functions and an extension of the building of ZŠ Slovanské náměstí primary school. The school is in the Slovanské náměstí square (No. 1218) in Brno – Královo pole and it is a preserved historic building. The preserved historic facades which face all the three streets where the building stands are an example of geometric modern art, which is influenced by cubism in this case. Its designer is Antonín Blažek, who cooperated with Václav Prokop and Václav Hynek Mach. Functions of rooms in the building were optimized along with linking of their scheme. The project also aimed to facilitate access for people with physical disabilities which was realized by a construction of a lift and by an adaptation of sanitary facilities. Lavatories were reorganized in order to have men's and ladies' lavatories in both wings of the building. The small and insufficient capacities of the kitchen and of the canteen were increased by an extension of the building in the area of the school yard. The extension created a connection between the two wings of the building and enabled a passage between them. Since the passages in the ground floor and in the first floor connect different points, the disposition of each floor is different. Therefore, the designed construction system is a monolithic reinforced concrete skeleton, it is composed of circular columns and of a locally supported slab. It is founded on a monolithic concrete slab because of the disposition of the construction elements. Both roofs are flat and the roof of the ground level can be walked on in order to make up for the lost room in the yard. Some of the walls in the ground floor are glass so the yard does not look as a confined space. The façade is specially designed for this building, it is meant to replace the piece of art and it is inspired by a modern abstract painting.
