Regional differentiation in the population development of South Bohemia: historic-geographic analysis
KLUČKA, Štěpán
The master's thesis deals with the formation of territorial differentiation in South Bohemia region from the point of population development. The structure of the regional settlement system has undergone dynamic and uneven development that has been affected by a wide range of varied factors. As a result of their spatial interactions, numerous micro-regional disparities appeared. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the impact of these factors both at the level of individual municipalities and the level of micro-regions. Empirical data for this research were collected from the national population censuses, regularly gathered from 1869. Because of this time constraint, the main attention is paid to the industrial period that is also considered as the most important stage for urbanization processes. The study is divided into four significant parts: the crucial analytical part is preceded by a brief introduction of the most important possible determinants and the contextualization of regional population development in the context of nationwide trends. The third part is the core of the research that is based on the analysis of key factors on a sample of 103 selected South Bohemian municipalities. The second analytical part builds on the conclusions of the previous one and deals with an assessment of changes in the dynamics of population development at the micro-regional level. Within the final synthesis, the micro-regions are divided into categories based on the core-periphery concept. Furthermore, the generalization of the main trends and the prediction is implemented. Finally, all the research hypotheses are both confirmed or refused.
Involvement of the South Bohemia in the European region Danube-Vltava
MEDVÍĎOVÁ, Jana
This bachelor thesis is focused on the theme of involvement of the South Bohemia in the European region Dunaj-Vltava. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the development of cross-border cooperation, including the definition of a region, a list of the theories of regional development, explanation of border effect and familiarization with individual European cross-border cooperation programs. The second chapter concentrates on the European regions, their organizational structure, membership, funding and activities, and gives examples of their association. The third chapter is devoted to the European region Dunaj-Vltava and involvement of one of the member regions, the South Bohemia, in its activities. The chapter describes the establishment of this European region, the way of its functioning and its participation in the development of cross-border cooperation. The fourth chapter is a practical part of this thesis. It includes a questionnaire survey, conducted among South Bohemia residents, and the analysis of its results. This survey should show us, how people, living in the European region, perceive the relationships between the Czech republic, Germany and Austria, how well they are informed about the existence and activities of the European region Dunaj-Vltava and what they think about it.
Regional differentiation of the population development in Pilsen region: historical-geographical analysis
PAŘIL, Aleš
This master thesis analyses the regional differentiation of population development of micro-regions of Pilsen region. The analytical part focuses on the period from the mid-19th century to the most recent census (2011). During this long-term development, in terms of population, the region undergone major changes which were the result of variety of. The essence of the study is to verify the key determinants which caused the differentiation in selected micro-regions. The work also provides a characteristic of the region, including a list of its natural and socio-geographic specifics, including the major historical events in the development of the region. There is a brief comparison with other regions for initial classification within the Czech Republic, which is also focused on the period of 161 years. This initial part is followed by the analyses of an actual population development realised by sub-analyses of the micro-regions. These sub-analyses examine the three selected factors which are likely to have a big impact on the population changes in the region. Based on the development and the status of the population, the core and periphery micro-regions in the regional system are classified. Within the final synthesis the micro-regions are divided into categories which defer from each other in dynamics of development. The conclusion summarizes results of the work and a validation of the input hypotheses is its part.
Geographical research of the peripheral region of Kaplice with a focus on social capital
SVOBODA, Radek
This diploma thesis deals with a geographical research of the peripheral region of Kaplice with the orientation on social capital. The administrative district of municipality is located in the southern part of South Bohemia in the district of Český Krumlov. The diploma thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part concentrates on the terms like social capital, periphery and on the basic geographical characteristic of the monitored area. The subsequent practical part deals with the specific research that consists of the analysis of secondary data and survey. All acquired data are processed and presented in the form of tables and graphs with following evaluation and comparison of results with other similar researches.
Transport accessibility of peripherals areas in the region Vysočina
LEŽÁK, Martin
The main concept of this bachelor thesis is the definition of peripheral municipalities or coherent spatially homogeneous areas in Vysočina region based on comprehensive socio-economic indicators, which describe in detail the various processes occurring in each geographical area. For the author, it was important to use fundamental theoretical basis and detailed work of various social geographers in the this issue to determine the peripherals. In other parts of thesis the author continues by detailed analysis of the socio-economic categories and discovers spatial differences of the analysed region. After the peripheral areas determination, he will present a comprehensive and versatile character analysis of quality of transport service in such municipalities, which is the second aim of this work. Wide variety of activities are bound with the transport accessibility in the geographical area, so it is extremely important to explore its effectiveness, as well as some differences in its quality. Final maps of peripheral areas in Vysočina region and of quality of transport service in these marginalized municipalities are included in this thesis.
Spatial changes in the world economy: core areas and periphery
Pavlicová, Vladimíra ; Vošta, Milan (advisor) ; Jeníček, Vladimír (referee)
The position of countries in the world economy is uneven, therefore core and peripheral areas can be distinguished. However, the identification of factors, which affect economic development and thus the position of a country in the hierarchical system, is more important than the classification itself. Owing to clarity, the factors are divided into three parts: space and resources, population and production. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the most important trends (geographical, demographical and in production) in the world economy in terms of their spatial progress as well as to examine their relationship to the key indicator of the economic level, which is represented by gross domestic product per capita. At first, theoretical approaches concerning the issue are described. On their basis, a pair of indicators representing individual factor is always chosen. Subsequently, these indicators are analyzed at the country level from 1976 to 2010. Their spatial changes are well illustrated by cartograms. The last part proves by the means of mathematical statistics that the effect of geographical factors on the economic level has diminished during the examined period, whereas the effect of demographical and production factors has not changed significantly.

An abandoned site (A serie of wall paintings in the environs of an urban outskirts)
MALÁK, Martin
In this theoretic-practically focused diploma thesis I deal with the issue of an abandoned site and its potencial for the art creation itself. Firs I attempt to foreshow the modern aspects of the art in relation to the urban outskirts creation. I focus on the distinct graffiti phenomenon an its role within the cultural developement of the modern society. In connection with forementioned I aspire to define the phenomenon of site and space. Furthermore I adress the importance of the outskirts with reference to the environmental psychology. Afterwards I carry through a critical reflexion of the theoretical knowledge fragments and apply new findings while resolving the creative task. In the practical part of this thesis I create triptych of wall paintings in the environs of an urban outskirts on the topic of an abandoned site and consequently I carry out their explication.
