Imperium: Augustus. The comparison of the historical film with reality and its didactical use

The diploma thesis deals with the life and reign of Augustus, the first Roman emperor from the Julian-Claudian dynasty, and compares it to the only one television film about this historical figure. In the opening chapter, the author analyses the history of the Roman Empire from 133 BC to the death of Gaius Iulius Caesar in 44 BC. The other part of the thesis deals with the life and the reign of Augustus who influenced the Roman Empire for several decades. The third and the fourth chapter are devoted to the analysis of the historical film Imperium: Augustus and its comparison with the primary and secondary literature. The last chapter deals with applying the sequences of this historical film in history classes in schools.

Imperium: Nerone - Comparison of the Historical Film and Primary Sources and its Educational Use

The main objectives of this diploma thesis are to describe and analyze character of the Roman Emperor Nero, the last member of Iulo-Claudian dynasty, in the historical film, which was made as a part of a series about Roman history. The first part deals with history of the Roman Empire since Gaius Octavius`s arrival to Rome in 44 BC till death of the Emperor Claudius in 55 AD. The second part gives a description of the character Emperor Nero of the Roman Empire. It is believed that it was he who had the whole city of Rome burnt. Other parts of this thesis show analysis of the film Nero, císař římský. Imperium: Nerone (TV film) 2004. It is a comparison of his character from literary to theatrical sources. The last part describes a didactic use of the film. There is a presentation of a model lesson that was created and taught in practice by the author herself. Thesis title: Magisterial powers in Ancient Rome in the period of Principate The aim of this thesis is to provide a systematic overview of the image of the Imperial administration and palace offices during the times of the Principate during the first three centuries of Common Era. Their enumeration, powers and administrative agenda are described chronologically according to their presumed and documented origin in the reigns of the respective Emperors and dynasties, together with the most significant administrative policy and reforms of individual sovereigns. The description of the Imperial cabinet is set to a basic historical context, which sheds more light on the eventual motivation and reasoning behind the creation or abolition of individual offices or the enactment of the appropriate reform since the ascension of Octavianus to the throne until the overview of fundamental changes of state administration during the reign of Diocletianus. The Imperial administration played a significant role during the principate era. Roman empire and the christianity - from the persecution to the state religion

This diploma thesis is devoted to the situation of Christians living in the Roman Empire in the first four centuries AD. Every new religion has to face a number of problems in its beginnings, its misunderstanding and its position in society must be gradually enforced. However, the very beginnings of Christianity are not easy to grasp, since so many sources have not been preserved to this day. Likewise, many events are perceived through Christian optics and thus interpreted unilaterally. These are, above all, martyrological texts that have been extensively modified over time and authenticity is now relatively difficult. This diploma thesis is divided into several chapters, while in the first one I try to describe the Roman society and the Roman religion with which the Christian faith was confronted. Further chapters and chapters are devoted to the rise and spread of Christianity, the person of Jesus Christ, and the Church Fathers who report to us about the first centuries of Christian faith. The most extensive part of this diploma thesis is devoted to the main topic of persecution of Christians in the first four centuries AD. Diplomacy and Force in G. I. Caesar's Policy

The thesis studies the concept and management of diplomacy in the Republic of Rome. It characterizes the development of the international status of the Roman Empire, focuses on its expansion by force and expansion through diplomacy. On examples from the life of G. I. Caesar analyzes application of soft and hard power in internal politics, foreign policy, and international relations of the ancient world. Its main objective is to clarify the role of diplomacy and force and the way in which G. I. Caesar's policy was applied during the process of acquiring absolute power in the Republic of Rome.

The Idea of the State and Imperial Rule in the Byzantine and Western Empire in the 9th to 11th Centuries

The present thesis aims to conclude an analysis of political and administative structures in Byzantium and Western Empire from the end of the 9th until half of the 11th century. This was achieved by means of comparison. The author attempted resolve the issue of mutual relationship between the political elite and the ruler and how differences both in the Byzantine and Western Empires influenced the social system. The research included analysis of ruler legitimity, organisation of administration, social mentality and abstract ideas of the state. In the conclusion of this work, the author presented the major differences between West and Byzantium and evaluated future development of both states in regard to internal stability and integration fo political elites.
