Brownfields in the Czech Republic in connection with historical centers
Murárová, Lucia ; Svoboda, Lukáš (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
The subject of the Diploma thesis is an urban study in the area of the former part of Tepna in Náchod. The Tepna area is largely after demolition and is currently dilapidating. This area has the potential for development and use, located within a short walking distance from the historic city center and at the same time from the residential area in the northern part of Náchod. Above the solved area is the castle, which is a dominant and a city landmark. The aim of the proposal was to use the potential of the territory at most, but at the same time to approach the surrounding landscape sensitively and to connect the urban character of the surrounding urban structure of the city and, conversely, the existing buildings of unclosed blocks are supplemented by new development.

Vencovská, Tereza ; Kotek, arch Jakub (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
This master’s thesis was prepared as an architectural study on the topic of Childern's sanatorium Ostrov u Macochy. It proposes design of a new children’s treatment centre that uses the nearby Císařská Cave for speleotherapeutic treatment. The municipality of Ostrov u Macochyis in the district of Blansko. The new building is located on the outskirts of the village surrounded by the nature of the protected area CHKO Moravský kras, the terrain is sloping and oriented to the south. These are the main attributes that the object uses and adapts to.The treatment centre operates in a single building with two main floors. The ground floor has space for commercial use, entrance hall, medical, rehabilitation and administrative part, kitchen and facilities for speleotherapy and operation of the treatment centre. The first floor is dedicated to children. One half of the first floor consists of playing areas and rooms for accommodated children and separate rooms for children accommodated with their parents. In the second half of the first floor there is an elementary school with three classrooms, a dining room and a caretaker's apartment. Thanks to the terrain, it is possible to enter the atrium and the garden with sports grounds from the entire first floor. This creates a connection between the interior and surrounding nature. The construction system of the building is mostly brick, supplemented by reinforced concrete columns, sprayed forms of prestressed ceiling slabs, the roof is flat green. The main idea of the urban solution is to create serious looking building connected with nature, which will respect the sloping terrain and the surrounding buildings. The architectural solution is based on a simple cubic U-shaped form, partially embedded in the terrain. The mass forms the atrium. The dominant feature of the facade are coloured shielding slats, which prevent the building from overheating. These slats also appear elsewhere on the facade and children can play
Green architecture design and infrastructure in cities
Cacková, Anna ; Gottvaldová, Jana (referee) ; Remeš, Josef (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on the topic of green infrastructure and its importance in a city. The work presents ten selected problems and precautions that cities encounter in the process of planning and designing the greenery. The practical part evaluates the current state of the administration and maintenance of urban greenery in Björnson Park near the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Brno. The analysis of the current situati-on and the problem research showed that the analyzed area has certain deficiencies in the management and care of public greenery. We not only observe a lack of awareness of trees and their needs but also face insufficient knowledge of climate change, which causes cities to overheat. It is necessary to respond to these changes and use all pos-sible precautions that are available.

The GAP in Brno
Richnavská, Dominika ; Zlámal, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
In a selected location – gap site define the principles of its development and propose a new urban house. The aim of the thesis is to find an appropriate development strategy for each particular site. The bachelor thesis deals with the development proposal of a selected gap site in the vicinity of the centre of Brno. The main task is to make optimal use of a gap site area and to considerately complement the surrounding buildings so that the block is one step closer to a compact type of development. The gap site is surrounded by a four-floor object on one side and on the other side, there is a smaller two-floor building on the south and garages on the north. The design envisages the alteration/development of the mentioned buildings into a more compact form. The type of a gap site and the orientation to cardinal points shape objects that can be found here. The design deals with two polyfunctional houses with a green area in-between which is fairly lacked in a given area. The design also takes into consideration how busy the surrounded streets are. The objects serve as the apartment buildings with an office area on the second floor and a café with a summer terrace on the ground floor. The parking in confined spaces is solved by underground parking shafts. An additional extra feature are the views of Špilberk and Petrov, which can be fully enjoyed from the roof terraces.

Urban architectural study of urban low-rise housing
Krůpa, Miloslav ; Menšíková, Naděžda (referee) ; Urbášková, Hana (advisor)
The theme of the thesis is to propose urban efficient comfortable living in a quiet natural environment between the original settlement of Líšeň and the panel housing estate from the 1980s. The design of the new residential complex will be in line with the current trends and needs of healthy living. The land lot which the buildings will be constructed on has a trapezoidal shape with a longer side in the west-east direction, narrowing and sloping towards the east. The elevation is about 22 m to 330 m of the length of the land lot. An important feature of Líšeň is the "chapel" (Chapel of Virgin Mary the Helpful) on the opposite eastern hill. The aim of the urban study was to create a smooth transition between the old part of Líšeň (so called "Stará Líšeň") and the new part of Líšeň (so called "Nová Líšeň”), with an emphasis on environmental and social aspects. The territory is divided by compositional and a viewing axes, which are meeting in the social space, formed by the social center with a dominant open space and covered facilities in an adjacent building located in its highest western part. In front of this building, there is a small square followed by the central area with a residence lawn, a public grill and a playground for children. This part finishes in the east with a new water surface in the form of a bathing biotope, which is bridged by two footbridges following the compositional axes. The west side of the stairs between the footbridges continues in a landing stage. Selected combination of low-floor apartment houses and low-floor family houses elevates in height and volume from the eastern and southern boundaries of the territory towards its northwest corner. Along the western border of Novolíšeňská street, a barrier house is designed and it performs also a function of an optical dividing line from the existing panel houses. Emphasis was also put on the minimum of traffic areas. The main routes are designed as one-way roads so as to simplify the orientation in the area. Parking areas are preferably designed as covered and subterranean parking. The main priorities were the greatest extend of greenery (in the form of growing plants and green roofs) on the one hand, and the utmost preservation of a non-built-up area. The result of this study is a low-rise housing in the greenery area with the open views from the buildings to their surroundings, a generous amount of sunshine in living rooms, and an extensive social life for its inhabitants and for inhabitants of surrounded areas. Energetic efficiency was also taken into account while designing the houses. Objects are designed as simple block-shaped blocks with a rectangular or square ground plan. Residential buildings usually have a common or conjoined underground floor. The object of the barrier house has a linear character and roughly copies the western border of the territory. Its parterre is regularly interrupted in four places by passages which serve as a connection with the Novolíšeňská service road. Wood and stone were chosen as materials because of their natural character. Family houses at the southern border are terraced (in groups of 2 x 4 and 1 x 5) and intended as passive houses. Separate family houses around the water area are accessible only by foot, as no car-traffic around the water surface is allowed (however, the arrival of vehicles is possible on a walkway with a width of 3.0 m). These houses are considered as low-energy houses.
