Requirements necessary for dogs and their practical use in canistherapy
ZÁBRANSKÝ, Václav
The bachelor thesis deals with requirements necessary for dogs and their practical use in canistherapy. Canistherapy is one of the most common forms of zootherapy used in hospitals, old people's homes, schools or kindergartens. The practical part focuses on the impact of the canistherapy on the canistherapeutical dog - a three-year old chihuaha. The one-year-long research took place in the Volunteer centre at Faculty hospital Motol. The objective of the research was to find out how the number of patients, frequency of visits in the hospital, length of therapeutical sessions, type of activities or different wards influence the dog. At the end of the monitoring period, an attempt was made to prove that breaking the frequency of the canistherapeutical sessions had a negative effect on the dog. The research has showed that canistherapy with a frequency more than once a week results in lack of dog's appetite and stamina ? the amount of non eaten feed achieved the volue 70 % of daily dose. The number of patients or the length of sessions have shown in statistics no substantial impact on the fatigue of the dog (F-test = 1,654, resp. 0,067). The experiment shows that the most appropriate frequency of the canistherapeutical sessions is once a week or once a fortnight.
The Development of Professional Competences of Students by Means of Canistherapy
CIMLOVÁ, Ludmila
The subject of my bachelor thesis was "The Development of Professional Competences of Students by Means of Canistherapy. In the theoretical part I focused on the explanation of terms such as zootherapy, canistherapy, voluntary service, professional competence and other related information. In the practical part of my thesis I describe the objectives, study methods and results. The aim was to find the extent of the students' professional competence which was developed through the involvement in the volunteer programme at the Centre of Zootherapy, or by participation in some stays organized by the Centre of Zootherapy. In the research, I selected quqlitative searching, focus group technique, the method of secondary data analysis and, as a complementary source of data, I used photo documentation. The results of the search showed that the students gained 16 professional competences due to involvement in the volunteer programme Canistherapy, or due to the participation in off-site events which they are supposed to obtain during the study and practical training at the Faculty of Health and Social Studies.
Canistherapy for children in children homes
SIMANOVÁ, Jana
The bachelor thesis focuses on canistherapy in children homes for children with hearing afflictions. Canistherapy is an effective form of zoorehabilitation, which has a significantly positive influence on psychologoical well-beeing of humans. It has become a supportive method for children living in children homes for this reason mainly. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the application of the canistherapeutical method - Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) as a supportive method in children home established by the Day nursery school, basic and grammar school for children with hearing afflictions. This work is concipated into two parts ? theoretical and practical (research). The theoretical part consists of two chapters, out of which the first one deals with general rules and organisation of canistherapy and the relationship between humans and dogs. The second chapter is concerned with children homes and application of canistherapy there. The second chapter is more factual and is followed by a research, connected with it. The practical part has been carried out by the method of qualitative research. The method of involved observation and semi-controlled dialogues took place in the children home which is branched to the Day nursery school, basic and grammar school for the children with hearing afflictions.
Canistherapy - as a part of nursing of elderly people in long term care
JENERÁLOVÁ, Marta
The present work deals with elderly people hospitalized in long term care departments (hereinafter referred to as LTC) where they often experience unpleasant feelings such as fear, anxiety or psychic lability. They can feel lonely, isolated, useless and incapable. In the theoretical part hereof the author has explained the term of canistherapy and its use in geriatrics. Next, the author has shed some more light on the relationship between a senior and a dog, the phenomenon of old age and aging, specific aspects of nursing in geriatrics. And also, the author has given an account of medical and social institutions which elderly people can use. The inquiry was carried out in the form of anonymous questionnaires with seniors hospitalized in LTC of the Třebíč Hospital and in LTC of the Havlíčkův Brod Hospital. This inquiry was then supplemented with moderated half-standardized interviews with hospitalized seniors in both LTC departments. The author set four goals in her work: Goal 1 is to chart the influence of canistherapy on progress in self-care of the sick seniors in LTC departments. Goal 2 is to chart the influence of canistherapy on progress in the hospitalization of seniors in LTC. Goal 3 is to find out the effects of canistherapy on nursing at the department with a canistherapy programme already going. And finally Goal 4 is to find out if seniors are aware of what canistherapy is about and if they are interested in introducing this therapy at their LTC department. These goals have been accomplished. Hypothesis No 1: ?Canistherapy leads to better self-care of the sick seniors in long term care departments,? has not been confirmed. Hypothesis No 2: ?Canistherapy leads to better results in the hospitalization of seniors in long term care departments,? has been confirmed. Hypothesis No 3: ?Canisthrapy has positive effects on nursing of the sick seniors at long term care departments with a canistherapy programme already going,? has not been confirmed. Hypothesis No 4: ?Seniors are aware of what canistherapy is about,? has been confirmed. Hypothesis No 5: ?Seniors are interested in introducing this therapy at their long term therapy department where it has not been introduced yet,? has been confirmed. The results of the present work have been passed over to the long term care departments where the inquiry took place. Containing valuable information, the results will help the LTC departments in their further work and as a motivation to other activities in long term care. Furthermore, the author has created an information brochure for nurses which has also been handed over to the LTC units where the inquiry took place.
The effect of canistherapy on the client with disorders of behaviour and social relations
PILÁTOVÁ, Kateřina
The thesis was mainly aimed at the impact of canistherapy on the clients with behaviour and social anxiety disorders, their behaviour, social contacts and attitude to a living creature. The theoretical part of the thesis presents an overview of zootherapy and canistherapy terminology, outlines requisites of the practical part and defines behaviour and social anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. The outcome is represented by a multicase study on the basis of qualitative research technique. The multicase study offers a deep insight into three case studies, in details depicts particular techniques which are used in canistherapy, the process of canistherapy realised in children and adolescents with behaviour and social anxiety disorders. The findings of the research proved a positive impact of canistherapy, especially an AAT method, on the clients monitored. Based on these findings, canistherapy is highly recommended for this group of clients.

Design of conception professional skills in the field of Animal Assisted Therapy
STANÍKOVÁ, Anna
The bachelor thesis responds to the inconsistent situation of training in the field of canistherapy in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part of this thesis is pointing out the historical development and current status of zoorehabilitation, especially canistherapy and equine assisted activities and therapies, highlighted the importance and topicality of the issue to which the work is focused. The final schematic concept aims to provide the necessary unification of training in the field of canistherapy in the Czech Republic. It is not only one concept, but two sub-concepts in reacting to the current situation in this issue, and both are focused on direct application in practice.
Possibilities to use the canistherapy for children with special educational needs in the rehabilitation centre for people with disabilities of ARPIDA, o.s.
MEZEROVÁ, Jana
This bachelor thesis is focused on possibilities to use the canistherapy in the centre of ARPIDA, o.s. An aim of the research was to find out an effectiveness of the canistherapy for children with special educational needs in the context of a comprehensive rehabilitation system. To collect data, I chose following methods: a direct participant observation, an uncontrolled interview and a content analysis of the data collection. I led interviews with physiotherapists, a psychologist, a head of the day care centre and with parents of the children from the research sample. The observed sample consisted of four children with special educational needs aged 11, 14, 15 a 21 years. All the children attended the day care centre of ARPIDA, o.s. Children´s case studies, an actual course of the canistherapy including a picture file, expressions of individual experts including an evaluation of the effectiveness of the canistherapy at each child with the special educational needs, are recorded in the practical part of my bachelor thesis. The most effective method at the children with the cerebral palsy is an AAT method in the form of a positioning. The effectiveness of the canisterapy was recorded here mainly in the motor area. The most significant indicator of the effectiveness of the canistherapy at those children was releasing of their spastic muscles. Results of the observation then confirmed positive emotional moods of children during the canistherapy. At a child with ADHD syndrome the AAA method was used, through which it came, during the canistherapy, to an improvement of the ability to concentrate an attention and to an overall pacification. The effectiveness of the canistherapy was evident even in the area of the fine motor and communication abilities of children. I suppose that findings of the thesis can become a guidance and an inspiration for more frequent visits of future canistherapeutic teams, which will decide to work with children in the centre of ARPIDA.
Animal Assisted Crisis Response
KOSTELNÁ, Helena
Canistherapy ? crisis intervention (?C-KI?) is not a very well-known and wide-spread method of canistherapy in the Czech Republic. The objective of this paper is to enhance the awareness of the expert public for the purposes of better cooperation of the integrated emergency system (?IZS?) and better use of the potential offered by this method. The theoretical part describes the IZS within which the C-KI operates as a separate unit. Then, the method is defined within the theory of zootherapy and canistherapy. For the sake of completeness, a separate chapter deals with the crisis intervention from the general point of view. A substantial part of the paper is formed by the definition of the C-KI method with the effort to provide a comprehensive summary based on all the sources available. I divide the research into two parts. The first part is formed by the pilot questionnaire looking for the answer to the research question ?What is the knowledge of the selected units of the IZS about the C-KI??. In this quantitative part of the research, I determine the hypothesis ?Selected units of the IZS do not know the C-KI method in most of the cases.? I always include, between the selected units, a centre of the Medical Emergency Service and a centre of the Regional Brigade of Cynologists in each region of the Czech Republic. In total, 28 questionnaires were sent using the CASI (Computer Assisted Self Interviewing) method. The rate of return of the questionnaires was 57%. The questionnaire inquiry confirmed the determined hypothesis that selected units of the IZS do not know the C-KI method in most of the cases. A partial result is the confirmed interest in more information about this method in the selected units of the IZS, in 81% of the answers. The second part of this research tries to find the answer to the question ?What may the C-KI offer?? using the method of a half-structured interview. There were three interviews, always with an expert who already witnessed the C-KI method during training and/or in the practice. The interviews show the significance and importance of the C-KI and the list of areas in which it may offer assistance during an extraordinary emergency situation. Examples may be the organization of evacuated inhabitants, care of them in the evacuation centre, psychological and social assistance to victims in the crisis and organizational assistance to the IZS units. In order to reach the stipulated objective of enhancing the awareness of the C-KI method among the expert public for the purposes of better cooperation with the IZS and better use of the potential offered by this method, a brochure intended for the IZS units was created as a practical output. This brief publication focuses on the most important information on the C-KI method and will be sent via e-mail to the General Directorate of Fire Rescue Service with a copy to all the centres of the Medical Emergency Service, Police of the Czech Republic, Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and regional chiefs of Rescue Brigades of Cynologists.
Supportive therapy with dog´s assistance as a part of the coherent physiotherapy for the physically disabled person
BAUEROVÁ, Monika
ABSTRACT The use of animals as man{\crq}s helpers or companions is as old as domestication itself. Contact with an animal, if accepted positively by the person, relaxes, slows down heartbeat and lowers blood pressure, releases tension, intermediates communication, compensates for missing abilities of people. Canistherapy as a supporting rehabilitation method contributes to the relaxation of muscle spasms, development of fine and gross motor skills, stimulates verbal and non-verbal communication, orientation in space, enhances motivation to participate in one{\crq}s own healing process, and improves the client{\crq}s interaction with other clients and nurses. The theoretical part of the Bachelor thesis is dedicated to the definition of canistherapy within comprehensive rehabilitation of people with a motor apparatus disability. Particular attention is paid to the issue of individuals affected by cerebral palsy and achondroplasia. The goal of the Bachelor thesis is to determine the influence of a dog-assisted therapy on people with a motor apparatus disability. A partial goal is to define the standing and position of a dog-assisted therapy within integral comprehensive rehabilitation of the client. The research is mainly focused on the use of the Animal Assisted Therapy method. Qualitative techniques of data collection were used within the research part of the Bachelor thesis. The following data collection techniques were used: anamnesis, observation (kinesiology examination), secondary data analysis and photo documentation. Results of the action of AAT method canistherapy prove in different areas a positive influence on both monitored clients permanently living in a diagnostic social care institution. The research was carried out in a client suffering from a quadriplegia form of cerebral palsy and in a client with achondroplasia. Casuistries of both mentioned clients describe the way of dog assisted therapy conduct, progress and results.
