Ecotoxicological evaluation of chemicals using algal tests
Osinová, Petra ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis covers use of algal test for evaluation of ecotoxicity of chemical agents. First part details algae and algal tests metodology. Second part investigates applicability of different algae species and algae test methods for ecotoxicological analysis of selected chemical substances
Study of moisture conditions in the facade wall after application of the ETICS
Ševčíků, Robin ; Steuer,, Radek (referee) ; Šťastník, Stanislav (advisor)
In the last decades the application of ETICS (external thermal insulation composite system) became a popular measure to improve the energy performance and the weather resistance of facades in the building stock. However, hand in hand with that the problem of microorganisms such as algae and fungi on facades has substantially increased in re-cent years. One of the main reasons is the interaction of climate influences with modern compositions of thermal insulation systems resulting besides of large thermal and mois-ture loads in occurrences of green covers of algae on facade surfaces. The algae popula-tion on facades with ETICS is supported by the sufficient humidity, caused by the night temperature decrease of surface to the dew-point temperature and by consequent con-densation of vapour. The thermal radiation against clear night sky is responsible for the origin of this periodically repeated phenomenon. This bachelor’s thesis is concentrated to the description of available knowledge in this field and explains the phenomenons by means of principles of building physics. Moreover, at the end, in the practical part, there are presented the results of author’s own measurements concerning determination of basic properties of commonly used fa-cade materials (spectral emissivity, absorbing power), important with regard to the sub-ject of the thesis.
Use of combination of bacteria and algae for wastewater treatment
Hlavsová, Barbora ; Stříteský, Lubomír (referee) ; Hlavínek, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce the reader to the ever improving methods of biological wastewater treatment with the use of bacteria, algae and combination of both. Further it elaborates on the promising ways of utilizing biomass gained from these treatments in various sectors, such as energetics, chemistry, pharmacy and agriculture. The second part of the thesis offers a techno-economic study of wastewater treatment using combination of bacteria and algae in a specifically assigned area.
Adaptation of algae to extreme environments
KVÍDEROVÁ, Jana
The acidophilic red alga Cyanidium sp. is one of the dominant mat-forming species in the highly acidic waters of Río Tinto, Spain. The culture of Cyanidium sp., isolated from a microbial mat sample collected at Río Tinto, was exposed to 9 different pH conditions in a gradient from 0.5 to 5 for 24 h and its physiological status evaluated by variable chlorophyll a fluorescence kinetics measurements. The optimum pH ranged from 1.5 to 2.5. A steep decrease of the photochemical activity was observed at pH below 1 even after 30 min of exposure. At pH above 2.5, the decline was more moderate and its negative effect on photochemistry was less severe. The red alga Cyanidium sp. is well-adapted to prevailing pH at its original locality at Río Tinto, i.e. pH of 1 to 3. The short-term survival in pH<1.5 may be adaptation to rare exposures to such low pH in the field. The tolerance of pH above 3 could be caused by adaptation to the microenvironment of the inner parts of microbial mats in which Cyanidium sp. usually dominates and where higher pH could occur due to photosynthetic oxygen production.
Eutrophic stress of the Orlik reservoir
ZELENKOVÁ, Kamila
Detection of potential sources of load eutrophic surface waters. Orlik dam is out of your water and energy purposes also used for recreational purposes. In recent years, recorded deterioration of water quality. It happens that it appears "Flower" water surface and increase algae. The content of this work was to monitor the changing state of water quality in reservoirs Orlik and its surroundings during the season. Parameters were monitored: conductivity, pH, oxygen, nitrates, and phosphates and during the season of 2013.
Ecology of phytobenthos in pools arising during the spring flood in the upper part of the river Lužnice
VESELÝ, Lukáš
A system of pools arises in the upper part of the Lužnice river during the spring flood. This study describes inter-annual development of phytobenthos in the floodplain system of the Lužnice River, including temporary/permanent pools during spring flood.
Pilot study on the issue of Euglenophyta in the Czech Republic
JURÁŇ, Josef
On the basis of literature review and floristic survey of almost 150 localities a revised checklist and a proposal of redlist of the Euglenophytes of the Czech republic were made. 286 taxa are reported from our state from which 5 taxa are new for Czech republic - Lepocinclis caudata, Monomorphina reeuwykiana, Phacus arnoldii, Trachelomonas bituricensis var. lotharingia, Trachelomonas volvocina var. punctata. The proposed redlist contains 9 taxa which are threatened by small number of localities or settle biotopes threatened by human impact.
Primary algologic research in basin of Křemžký potok.
VYŽRALOVÁ, Anna
Area of my research was Křemžský potok and ponds in its environs. Křemžský potok situating in Blanský les is being got dirty over time. Polluting influences are caused by villages, which through the stream is flowing. Thereafter a watter in stream is polluted by sewage disposal plant and its tributaries. I found in environs of Křemžský potok and ponds many typical species for this country.
Floristic study of cyanobacteria and algae in south-east part of Vysočina region
MELICHAR, Antonín
The phytoplankton samples from 45 localities in Vysočina region were collected in 2009. Species composition and relative abundance of species were studied; ecological factors like pH, conductivity, temperature, water transparency and dissolved ions were measured. Ecological indices (Shannon and Simpson index of diversity) were calculated and compared with other ecological factors. Checklist of all species present in Vysočina region was made. There were found 262 species and 4 species new for the Czech Republic.
The rearing of fry of vimba bream (Vimba vimba) under controlled conditions by using various feeding
BENEDIKT, Pavel
The feeding experiment was performed with fry of vimba bream (Vimba vimba) during the first 24 days from the beginning of exogenous nutrition. Six diets were used: algae (Chlorella vulgaris), starter fodder BioOptimal 0,8 mm by Biomar company ? for cyprinids, live nauplii of Artemia salina, combination of alga and starter fodder BioOptimal, combination of alga and nauplii of Artemia salina, combination of starter fodder BioOptimal and nauplii of Artemia salina. Individual weight, total lenght, survival rate of larvae, specific growth rate (SGR) and conditions of the fry (condition coefficient according to Fulton ? FWC) were observed during the experiment. The results were compared statistically using the method of one ? way analysis of variance (ANOVA ? = 0,05; Microsoft Excel).
