Diminutives: types, use and changes in contemporary Czech

The goal of this paper is a reflection of the use, word-formation and semantics of diminutives in the contemporary Czech language. A special focus is given on new or marginal phenomena. A description of the system of the word-forming category of diminutives serves as a background for our analysis. The research is based on the comparison of different approaches described in specialized linguistic handbooks which are supplemented with findings from particular linguistic studies.

Linguistic analysis of the "Travelbook" by Frederick from Donín

The thesis analyses selected phenomena of graphy, phonology, morfology, lexicology and words-formation of the Frederick from Donin's Czech book of travels, which was written at the turn of the 16th and 17th century. Partly, it also deals with the syntax and style of the work. Selected phenomena of individual language levels are studied using the original manuscript. The thesis intends to show in which aspects the text is close to early modern language usage, and conversely in which aspects it differs from it. The language of the manuscript is also compared with the contemporary Czech language.

Vocabulary of Czech sci-fi short stories

The presented Bachelor thesis, Vocabulary of Czech sci-fi short stories, is focused on describing lexicological and morphological means used in a sample of words used in a Czech sci-fi magazine XB-1. The analysed words have been categorized by their terminological, neological, proper noun and slang nature. This served as the basis of structure of this thesis. In the semantic part, this thesis deals with real objects typical for the described literary genre (space travel devices, technical inventions, unusual science fields, etc.) and thus confronts the real and fictional worlds. The thesis summarizes the word-forming means where authors need to create new words for new objects and the thesis describes some of their common trends. Last but not least, this thesis assessed the function of these word-forming means in such a specific literary genre. Distribution and Meaning of the -ák Suffix in Czech Corpora

The bachelor thesis deals with theoretical exploration of characteristics pertaining to the Czech suffix -ák and determination of statistical correlations relating to its distribution in Czech language corpora. The problem is approached through a general description of word formation in the Czech language and theoretical attribution of the -ák suffix to semantical and morphological categories and derivation paradigms. Particulars of the -ák suffix, such as homonymy, productivity and expressivity, are being described. Practical research is aimed at comparison of data obtained from the SYN2010 written language corpus and the ORAL2013 spoken language corpus and assessment of their appropriateness for investigation of the modern language. The research has confirmed that corpus data to a large extent conform with theoretical distribution of the suffix, with a few minor exceptions described in the text, and that such distribution shows certain differences between the written and the spoken corpora. Urbanonyms in the city of Tábor

This thesis deals with the names of streets, squares, embankments, parks and bridges in Tabor. Based on archival sources, cartographic tracks changes names Tabor streets in five historical periods during the 20th century. In each period, the newly - granted titles arranged in passwords, which explain their semantic motivation. Emphasis is placed on exploring the development honorifikačního motive in naming streets, thus awarding the title by important personalities, events, places and values that do not usually have a designated place of a direct link. The final section analyzes the formal formation of the current and defunct street names and submit their structural classification. The thesis aims to analyze the terminology street in the center of Tabor and their development, and contribute to the local place names, which have so far not been addressed.

The thesis deals with elements of composition of Italian vocabulary and word-forming processes that are used in this terminology. It briefly describes the italian vocabulary of specific historical period and extensively describes contemporary vocabulary of clothes and vocabulary in the area of sport.

Negative Prefixes in the present-day French

The aim of this work is to describe, with use of specialised literature, the characteristics of negative prefixes in present-day French. Then we will observe the correctness of observing the rules of application of these prefixes and study the frequency of their use. For this research, we will employ the methods of frequency and corpus analysis. This work is divided into two main parts and both contain several subchapters. In the theoretical part, we will explain the terms connected to language and word-formation in general, then we will focus on derivation and prefixes. On the basis of the Le Petit Robert dictionary and the other specialised literature, we will define the negative prefixes and describe their rules of usage. The following practical part will deal with corpus analysis of these prefixes.

Morphological Analyser Implemented as FSAs

This thesis deals with analysis of czech language and tries to enlarge limited derivative extension of morphologic analysator MA. Author describes actual state of this program and defines ways to find word formation connections, which serves to create derivation rules, which helps to automatically enrich knowledge of czech word formation. Illustrates how are similiar data grouped to create derivation patterns, which will make future work with new words easier. In the end, outcomes are sumarized and direction of possible future evolution is described.

An Analysis of Compound Plant Names

The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to carry out the detailed synchronic analysis of compound plant names in English terminology. In the theoretical part it summarizes different approaches to the classification based on an available literature, from which the best approach to the applied analysis will be chosen. In the practical part it compares the frequency of occurrence of these categories and analyses the prevailing trends. In the final part a detailed analysis of noun-noun compound is provided, with the focus on the semantic relation between the two parts, which are not explicitly expressed in those compounds.

Alteration: Diminutives and Augmentatives in Contemporary Italian

This thesis deals with alteration: diminutives and augmentatives in contemporary Italian, and their pragmatic functions. The aim of this thesis is to create a list of diminutives and augmentatives used in Italian fiction. The analysis of expressions is based on the texts contained in InterCorp. The starting point is a theoretical introduction to the word formation with special attention to alterative suffixes in Italian and Czech language, with a partial comparison to Spanish. The thesis also concentrates on hypocorisms, phonological and suffixal restrictions, and lexicalization of alteratives. An integral part is the chapter dedicated to pragmatics, speech acts theory and pragmatic use of alterative suffixes. The results of this thesis represent concrete illustrations for various communication situations documented from corpus.
