Perfect Example of the Analysis and Design in the CASE Tool Astah*
Králová, Iveta ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Mészáros, Jan (referee)
The thesis is focused on creating UML 2.0 diagrams in CASE tool Astah* and it's conceived as a handbook for students of software engineering course. The main aim of this thesis is to show a practical example of the use of selected UML diagrams in the analysis and design of information systems. Next aim that leads directly to achieving the main one is to explain the logical structure of the UML diagrams and describe the particular steps of their creation in CASE tool Astah *. The aim of the thesis is also to briefly characterize a CASE tool Astah * and describe the basic functions used to work in this tool. The aims of this thesis were reached mainly by studying available theoretical findings, using the reference manual from the help and tutorial from Astah* web sites and last but not least, by information processing from the Internet. The contribution of this thesis is especially a creation of simple and understandable UML models which document the particular application. Another contribution of the thesis are guidelines for work in the Astah *, edition professional, which describes only the functionality that user will actually use in contrast to the extensive manual. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part explains the term of CASE tool initially. This part follows on a basic characteristic of the CASE tool Astah * and a description of the basic work in Astah * professional. The second part is focused on the creation of UML diagrams in Astah * professional. At first, there is defined a practical example, which is then modeled using particular UML diagrams in order of use case diagram, class diagram, activity diagram and sequence diagram.
Potential of Unified Modelling Language usage for IS description and its application on a case study
Šindelářová, Šárka ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Vratný, Petr (referee)
This paper deals with the possible uses of the UML language as a tool for analysis, design and information systems implementation which is being used by people involved in the process of information systems development. The main goal of this work is to become acquainted with practical methods of using the UML language whereas one of the possible ways will be applied to the "ProBodyShop" case study. Namely, the method is applied to the stage of creating the detailed analysis. Another goal of this paper is to summarize the principles, history, and the elements of the UML language and to introduce the existing UML diagrams and CASE tools necessary for the modeling. Last but not least, in the case study I will demonstrate the decision-making of the information system analyst when creating the detailed analysis. These goals have been achieved by studying the available specialized publications, passing the OMG certified UML course and exam, and thanks to the experience gained during the development of information systems and especially by actively consulting the case study with the submitter. The main benefit of this paper is the creation of basic analytical foundation for development and testing in the first implementation phase of the "ProBodyShop" project and the example of a possible way for the analyst to deal with the detailed analysis. The theoretical part of this work discusses the UML language principles and history, including the main characteristics and development of the UML language. Another part aims at modeling in the UML 2, which represents different views at the system model, the diagrams and the necessary modeling tools. The practical part, which is the detailed analysis of the "ProBodyShop" project, is based on the requirements of the submitter and on theoretical knowledge. This part consists of the introduction to the problem, selection of the proper CASE tool and the process of creating the UML diagrams.
The use of UML diagrams in practice
Rejnková, Petra ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Mackovič, Ondřej (referee)
Unified modelling language UML is a result of a long-time effort to create a unified graphical notation that could be used during object-oriented development of information systems. The main aim of this thesis is to characterize UML 2.0 diagrams and show the examples of their usage in earliest phases of a development of a specific application. Next aim is to unite recommendations concerning diagram modelling and last but not least describe the main features and the development of UML and name changes that occurred in UML 2.0 compared to UML 1.x. The aims of this thesis were reached by studying available theoretical findings and practical recommendations and by consulting the modelled application with their developers and users. The diagrams were created using a trial version of Enterprise Architect 7.1. The contribution of the thesis is in the practical creation of UML diagrams based on previous consultations with the developers and the users of the application and summary of the most important information and best practices, which should be followed. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part concentrates on the most important features of UML, its development and comparison of UML 1.x to UML 2.0. The second part describes UML 2.0 diagrams in detail. Each chapter of this part characterizes a chosen diagram and includes recommendations, which should be followed so that the diagram is understandable not only to its creator, but to all people who come into contact with it. Afterwards, the mentioned facts and recommendations are used to create diagrams describing a specific application.
Comparison of non-commercial CASE tools for UML modelling
Janoušková, Irena ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (advisor) ; Buchalcevová, Alena (referee)
Subject of this bachelor thesis is comparison of non-commercial tools for UML modeling. The opening chapter is followed by brief description of the UML language in the second chapter. The fundamental mechanisms of the language and mainly the description of all the diagrams we are able to create by the help of UML are introduced here. Software development metodologies and their importance in the modeling process are also mentioned. Third chapter focuses on characteristics and classification of all CASE tools. General description of CASE tools is followed by the list of the best known UML modeling tools, both commercial and non-commercial. A description of four selected commercial products and their features is also added for illustration. Further in this chapter, you can find a list of several non-commercial applications for UML modeling. Seven of them are chosen for evaluation and comparison. Fourth chapter focuses on the multicriteria evaluation of alternatives and presents the methods used in this thesis. In this chapter we can also find the description of chosen criteria and subcriteria and determination of their weights. The fifth chapter aims at evaluation of the selected tools according to the chosen criteria. Calculated criteria values and overall evaluation according to the chosen multicriteria evaluation of alternatives method is presented in the sixth chapter. Results are listed in lucid table format. Tools are ordered by both the overall result and results of particular criteria, so that the reader can perceive the advantages and disadvantages of the evaluated products. In the epilogue I ruminate over the results and their explanatory value.
