The project was based on an architectural study made during the course AG34 Architectural Design Studio in 2015. The topic of the study was reconstruction and finding a new function for a building of the former seat of the district court of Zlín. The building is situated in an attractive location in the centre of Zlín, at the edge of park Sad svobody, near the Zlín palace and on the walking path between the main city square and the main bus station. The former court building is currently the city’s property and is in a decrepit state, conserved without any function. During it’s life, it has undergone several structural adjustments and has got several extensions. It is not protected by law for it’s historical significance, however, there are baroque vaults on the ground floor from the time the building served as a brewery, characteristic facade with lesenes and divided windows. The new main function of the building is connected to its original purpose, there is designed a new restaurant with a minibrewery, beer spa, short term accommodation of two categories – hotel garni and hostel, and a small shop with spa cosmetics. The aim of the new function was to make use of the building location lucratively considering the resources needed for reconstruction, to emphasise its interesting historical points and bring new life in the vicinity of the building. The newly designed extensions and adjustment of the former ones are meant to functionally and aesthetically complement the current building in an appropriate way.

The Restoration of the Former Zlín County Court
Prosseková, Jarmila ; Keith, Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor) ; Kalousek, Lubor (advisor)
The bachelor’s thesis deals with the renovation of former Zlín county court in the city centre of Zlín. The object is in the city heritage zone near Zlín castle. The original building from the 16th century initially served as a city brewery, and from the year 1922, the building was used as a country court. In the 20th century, three extensions were added, and since the year 1998 this building has had no usage and has been in decay, which could be seen on its bad structural-technical condition. Therefore, the renovation and return to the former function – that of a brewery, has been designed in this bachelor’s thesis. This function is supplemented by more services, such as the sales area, a beer-themed shop, a beer-themed spa, and accommodation. For constructive-technical and architectonical reasons, the removal of extensions from the 20th century, and renovation of the original building with elements of constructive-historical significance– the façade, and barrel and grion vaults in the ground floor, have been designed. For reasons concerning capacity, a new extension was designed with functional rooms facing towards the Zlín castle. The extension is, in its layout, connected to the original object appropriately on both technical and architectural level, with emphasis on accessibility of every function used by the public. Architecturally, the building has been adjusted by the height and proportions of the original structure, the rhythm of window openings maintains the impression of the original building. Within the extension, there will also be an inbuilt underground parking lot. The bachelor’s thesis expands an architectural study designed in the 3rd year into the form of documentation for building permit. Assigned parts have been designed in detail. Last part deals with an architectural detail of the timber-suspended ceiling with integrated lights, which substitutes for the missing vaults.
