Czechoslovak-Romanian relations between 1944-1948

The presented diploma thesis deals with bilateral relations between Czechoslovakia and Romania during first years after the World War II. It is concentrated primarily on research of the political and economical relations. The introduction is followed by the brief summary of tradition of the mutual bilateral cooperation in the framework of Little Entente. Next chapter occupies itself with the negotiations of Romanian exile politicians with the Allies concerning the armistice treaty in which Czechoslovak diplomatic representatives of the exile government in London played a key role. The following part describes and analyses the process of re- establishment of the diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and Romania after the war. The chapter presenting the situation of Czechs and Slovaks living in Romania between 1944- 1945 follows after that. Two texts about the contribution of Romanian military troops on the liberation of Czechoslovakian territory and about the post-war re-emigration of Czech and Slovakian compatriots from Romania back to Czechoslovakia represent an essential part of this diploma thesis. The Polish minority in the region of western Cieszyn Silesia (The Polish-Czechoslovak conflict over Teschen in years 1918-1920)

Má diplomová práce pojednává o sporu mezi Československem a Polskem o území Těšínska v letech (1918-1920). Po ukončení první světové války vznikly dva nové nástupnické státy, které začaly projevovat velký zájem o toto území. Hlavní důvody zájmu ze strany Československa byly především ekonomické, strategické, ale také historické. Polsko jako hlavní důvod k získání tohoto území uvádělo příčiny etnické. V roce 1919 došlo k válce mezi těmito státy (tzv. Sedmidenní válka). Celý tento spor byl nakonec ukončen v roce 1920 na konferenci v belgickém Spa, kde byly stanoveny konečné hranice území. Klíčová slova: Těšínko, spor, Sedmidenní válka, Polsko, Československo. Summary This work is describing the conflict between Czechoslovakia and Poland over Teschen in years (1918-1920). After the end of World War I., both of the two created independent states Polish Republic and Czechoslovak Republik claimed the area of Cieszyn Silesia. Czechoslovakia claimed the area partly especially on economic and strategic grounds, but so historic. The Polish side based its claim to the area on ethnic criteria. Teacher's Efforts at Social Education and Social Work during Czechoslovakia's First Republic

This diploma thesis deals with the system of education during the period of the First Republic in Czechoslovakia. It focuses on teachers at experimental schools who specialized in social training and education with regards to social work orientated to children and the families they come from. Numerous activities of the teachers in question are described and then evaluated. In the first part of the thesis the author analyzes the teachers'approach to social training and social work in general. Firstly, the work includes a description of the economic situation and the social status of families with children during the First Republic; secondly, it deals with the state social policies regarding poor families and their children. It presents both the facts on the standard of living found in the research surveys and the origins of the educational initiatives of the Czech teachers of that time. It also takes into account the intellectual sources that could influence them and direct them more to the social aspects of the educational process. Police Identification of Persons in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1938

This thesis is focused on police techniques of identification of persons used in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1938. The goal of this thesis was to show, how the police identification of persons should look like, in other words which techniques were used by criminologists, how they described them, which accomplishments and negatives they saw in them, who had to be identified and for which purpose. To answer all these questions I deal with political and administrative context of Czechoslovakia, police structure in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1938 and development of criminology, "bertillonage" and documents of identification (especially passports) in the first part of the text, where I mainly use secondary literature. Then I focus on analysis of three main techniques of identification used between 1918 and 1938, namely dactyloscopy, graphology and photography. In this part of the thesis, I use criminology manuals, published in the twenties and thirties. Finally, I work with the fourth technique of identification of persons, namely the description of persons, where I mainly use forms, which are in the criminology manuals. "I was eighteen and got married out of real love." Evolution of wedding ceremony in Communist Czechoslovakia

The aim of this master's thesis is the study of the development and changes of the wedding customs in the years 1948 - 1989, i.e. during the period of communistic Czechoslovakia. These developments and changes were monitored by oral history quality research - by the direct interviews with participants in discussions and comparison with available sources and photographic documentation from the weddings in each period of time. The work is focused more detailed on the influence of the socialism and its economic and cultural conditions over the development of wedding practices and customs and then on deviations from the Western, or better to say non-communistic model of changes in wedding customs in Europe during the post-war period of the 20th Century. The research was pursued at the regional level. The narrators were selected with regard to their responsibility for the appropriate generation and to the time they have married.

Ideology, censorship, indirect translations and non-translation: Czech literature in 20th -century Portugal

The present doctoral thesis investigates book translations of Czech and Slovak literature into European Portuguese in 20th -century Portugal. The Introduction gives reasons for choosing the topic, argues for its relevance and outlines the structure of the thesis. It defines the main research question, 'What was the presence of Czech literature translated into European Portuguese in 20th -century Portugal?', and formulates the hypothesis to be tested: 'The translations of Czech literature in 20th century Portugal exhibited a tendency, a pattern.' Chapter 1 attempts to operationalise seven theoretical issues pertinent to Translation Studies in general: (1) ideology, (2) censorship, (3) indirect translations, (4) non- translation, (5) canon and world literature, (6) paratexts, and (7) medium-sized lingua- & socio-cultures. Chapter 2 delineates the research subject, discusses the most important types of sources and materials used and presents the methodology. Cultural relations between Czechoslovakia and Germany in the 60's

This dissertation deals with the role of culture in international relations and cultural interaction between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1960s. The first chapter contains the description of methodology, literature and resources retrieval, exact time and territorial definition of the topic, analysis of the term "culture" its role in the international relationships and a brief overview of differences between the realistic and liberal international relation theory approches to the problem. The second chapter describes the global situation in the given period, political and cultural development in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany and formation of their foreign policy towards the opposing cold-war camp. The third chapter summarizes the progressing political, economical and cultural contacts between the two countries and briefly mentiones the impact of existence of the German Democratic Republic and West Berlin on mutual relations. The fourth chapter elaborates on the Czechoslovak-Westgerman contacts in the field of film production and visual arts. In the last chapter the author summarizes her previous findings.

The Withdraval of Soviet troops from territory of Germany, Czechoslovakia and Poland

The partial withdrawal of Soviet troops from Central Europe was a part of the process of reconstruction of the Soviet Union which was begun by the reforms of Mikhail Gorbachev. The Soviet Union in the second half of the 1980's took the decision to reduce the number of its military troops positioned outside the territory of the Soviet Union. However, the reduction did not automatically account to a complete withdrawal of Soviet troops. This dissertation is pursuing the withdrawal of the Soviet army from the territory of Germany, Czechoslovakia and Poland in the years 1989 - 1994. The change of regimes in the respective states led to the fact that the matter of Soviet troop withdrawal was a bilateral and multilateral affair rather than a unilateral act of the Soviet Union. This dissertation presents a unique comparison of the withdrawal of Soviet military units from three former satellites of the Soviet Union. It clarifies the reasons of their stay on these territories. It shows the negotiation process of each of the afore mentioned states with Moscow, and observes the coinciding arguments used by the Soviet negotiators and their counterparts. Magazines dedicated to golf questions

Diploma thesis "Magazines dedicated to golf issues" is devoted to questions of publishing golf magazines in former Czechoslovakia and in the Czech Republic. The key aim of this work is based on detailed mapping of all journals devoted to this issue in the period since the establishment of Czechoslovakia until year 2011. This work records the detailed historical development of golf in the Czech Republic, points out all problems that hit the golf during 20th century. Single chapters are devoted to all golf journals which had been published in former Czechoslovakia and ones which have been published in the Czech Republic. Significant space is devoted to magazines Slovanský golf and Sportovní Revue which were published during the First republic era. Further chapters mention post-war periodicals, and the last part of this work includes all golf magazines, which have been published after the Velvet revolution.
