Detection of Failures and cavities in structures using radar

The bachelor‘s thesis describes non-destructive testing and methods, which are used in civil engineering. It is focused on the detection of failures and cavities in concrete structures. In the first part the methods are described and compared. The second part describes experimental measurements on concrete structures, which contain failures. The results are described and interpreted. The used methods are compared. It was evaluated, which of these methods is suitable for the detection of failures and cavities in structures.
Possibilities of using GPR to detect reinforcement of concrete structures

The aim of this study is to outline how is GPR used to detect reinforcement in concrete structures. In each part the study deals with diagnostic testing methods used for building construction and shows a recognisability of steel reinforcement in concrete. Then it closely examines applications of GPR in a diagnostics of reinforced concrete structures with using Hilti PS 1000 device. In the practical part I conducted a building survey of wall silo using GPR and electromagnetic indicators. The aim was to identify the position of reinforcement which was subsequently compared with the project documentation. The construction survey was carried out as a reason of several serious defects such as cracks and tilting of major part of one of the silo walls.

Policies and types of diagnostic examination of a bridge. The theoretical section contains review diagnostic methods for a steel concrete frameworks. In a practical section there is made a examination of a bridge object over a river Moravia and a suggestion of the examination according to the detected defects. In the experimental section we are discovering, with a help of georadar, a location of reinforcement of a monolithic wall and board.
Diagnostic methods for reinforced concrete bridges

This bachelor thesis deals with the diagnostic survey of reinforced concrete bridges. In the introductory part is the bridge terminology, another part deals with methods of diagnosis,which can be applied to concrete bridges. Last chapter refers to the typical defects and disorders of reinforced concrete bridges. The practical part describes the technical survey of existing bridge and comparison methods determining the position of reinforcement - a radiometric method and using the GPR.

The thesis describes basic theoretical knowledge about history, principle, structure and various options how ground penetrating radar (GPR) can be used. Closely it’s oriented to building testing, applications of GPR to finding out reinforcement, differences at concrete structures and comparison with other conventional methods of building testing.

This thesis compares the results of the analysis of polluted city soils in terms of penetradar measurements and the results of laboratory analyzes of samples collected during the first, third and sixth measurements. These two factors were assessed according to the weather (especially temperature and rainfall) in the period of measurements.
