Japanese American experience in the works of Nisei authors
Dušáková, Hana ; Kolinská, Klára (referee) ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor)
Presenting this diploma thesis as a general overview of one group of writers, perhaps only a few words would suffice for the explication of my choice. Putting aside any emotional or personal involvement of mine in this topic, which stems from my ongoing interest in Japanese culture and the study of this language, I regard Japanese Americans and the literature they produced as unique in several respects. Considering their often contradictory reception and the turbulent historical shifts they were subjected to, one has to view this group as a generation of paradoxes. Being born in America, yet all their lives contending with the label of "exotic" or "oriental," struggling to conform, but only to discover that this effort (if it brought them closer to their peers) distanced them from their immigrant parents, writing literature in a language that was usually not their original mother tongue. These are attributes and dilemmas that would pertain probably to any recent group of immigrants to the United States. But what singles out the Japanese American experience among the countless other immigrant histories, is their collective experience in the years 1942-1944, when the nation they long aspired to be a part of suddenly crushed these hopes in the wake of the Pearl Harbor attack by considering them an enemy and...

The history of the European monetary unions
Přílepková, Hana ; Půlpán, Karel (advisor) ; Pazderník, Roman (referee)
This thesis depicts monetary integration of the European states from the second half of the nineteenth century to the period after the First World War, which was taking place against the background of the then metallic monetary systems. The aim is to provide a comprehensive view of the historical developement of integrating tendencies and to reveal the reasons of its successes and failures. The first part provides a brief theoretical introduction, the stress is putted especially on the theory of optimal currency areas. The remaining parts deal with monetary unions of the surveyed period. Firstly we look at the ways in which national and multinational monetary unions of the nineteenth century were realized. The spontaneous adoption of the gold standard by the majority of countries in the 1870s created world monetary union based on a system of fixed exchange rates. Finally we focuse on the Austro-Hungarian monetary union. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Practical dramaturgy of a great drama house
Rubenová, Sylvie ; SÍLOVÁ, Zuzana (advisor) ; KORČÁK, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis Practical dramaturgy of a great drama house (Is it possible to create a conscious artistic concept in the National theatre?) is to try to reflect practical experiences obtained during the first season as a dramaturg of the drama department in the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre and based on them to name the specifics and problematics of the dramaturgy of a great drama house in a regional city. NMST is a four department theatre operating two big stages (Jiří Myron Theatre and Antonín Dvořák Theatre) and a small stage (rehearsal room in Antonín Dvořák Theatre), where on all of them the drama department is operating. Therefore it is not a classical one department drama house as it is (like e.g. Vinohrady Theatre), but it is essential that in Ostravian theatrical context it fulfills exactly this function. Major role in the functioning of drama department of NMST is obviously played by two “systems”, which it is a part of: ie the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre (thus also other departments and its overall profilation) and Ostravian theatre scene, therefore I consider necessary to outline the wider context at first because it largely affects the drama department of NMST as its subset. The part of this work is also a pursuit of naming the task of a permanent dramaturg in this type of theatre, using which means he can (and must) participate on the directions and formation of the department, with short-term and long-term outlook, which comes obviously from the specific experience in this specific theatre. It is not the aim to pursue the past of the drama department of NMST, thus analysis of the historical tendencies of this department, but its contemporary situation, ie the present and possible future. Based on the analysis of the current repertoire and upcoming dramaturgical plans I will pursue the options and limits not only of this drama department, but of the great drama at all.

Title of the thesis: The influence of inline skating on the knee joint. Abstract: lnline skating is one of the fastest growing sport acitivities not only in the USA and the Western Europe but in the entire Czech Republic as well. Many people understand inline skating as a possible leisure activity- a fitness activity such as jogging, other do the inline skating as a supplementary summer sport to crosscountry skiing and other see it as an attractive means of transport. Apart from the physiological effects on respiratory, cardiovascular system etc. exists a topíc which has not been talked about: that is the influence of a periodic and repeating movement on the locomotory system and especially on the knee joint. The skate's construction, its rigidity, individua! skating technique and the status of skater's locomotory system as well as the quality of surface seem to have fundamental ímportance in this aspect. The quality of the surface together with fast skating may cause sígnificant vibrations. Key words: inline...

The effects of zinc ions on breast tissue cancerogenesis
Kratochvílová, Monika ; Stiborová, Marie (referee)
The concept of breast cancer describes a wide range of serious diseases. It is one of the most common cancer diseases among women worldwide. The most difficult and problematic subtype is the triple negative breast cancer. This subtype is characteristic by the loss of expression of hormon receptors and HER-2, which makes it unresponsive to available targeted therapy. The breast cancer, as well as other malignancies, has a relationship withzinc ions. Zinc is an essencial element and it is involved in many of important cellular processes and thus it is able to directlyor indirectly affect the cancerogenesis. Increased levels of zinc ions in malignant breast cancer tissue compared to healthy tissue were well described. However, zinc has documented anticancer properties. The aim of this study was to determine if excessive suplementation with zinc ions has an effect on breast cancer development in vivo. The cell line 4T1 was chosen as a model of the triple negative subtype in mus musculus. The mouse strain BALB/c was used as an animal model. A total dose of zinc sulphate per one gram of mouse weight used in the experiment was 0.15 mg. We determined not only the growth of primary tumour, but also an expression levels of selected genes and antioxidant capacity of the whole organism. The volume of primary...

Economic Diplomacy in the 21st Century
Sláma, Tomáš ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
This study examines the changing nature of the economic diplomacy in past and recent years. Since the end of the Cold War, there has been an important dynamics in the international relations. The consequences of this dynamics touch also the economic diplomacy, which is transformed by the effects of the economic globalisation and becomes more complex and important at the same time; it becomes one of the most influental instruments of state's foreign policy. The growing complexity means that there has been new players, issues and arenas emerged. New players, state and non-state; the latter have deep impact on the nature of economic diplomacy. Bussiness sector, represented mostly by transnational companies (TNCs) and "the global civil society" represented vy international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) shift the balance of power within the state. The central role of state is challenged and his power fragmentised. Except this horisontal widening of economic diplomacy yb growing numbers of its actors, it is also deepening in terms of its agenda. The national policies become internationalised or even globalised (services, investment, enviroment, customer protection, labour standards) and the regulation of international trade puts pressure on national governements to to reconsider the strategy and their...
