The history and development of skiagraphy
Dvořáková, Kristýna ; Hořák, Jaromír (referee) ; Daníčková, Kateřina (advisor)
This bachelor thesis "The Evolution of Radiography" deals with sequential development of this imaging method. It covers time period from discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, over the conventional Radiography to the current methods and trends of the digital Radiography. For this important discovery, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, german physicist, got the Nobel Prize in 1901. This work provides complex information about X-ray technology and describes the image creation procedure. The "Analog Radiography" chapter describes Radiography equipment and the projection type transition: from the conventional film screen radiography to the computed and direct radiography. In case of the Computed radiography (CR) the cassette containing the X-ray film is replaced by a cassette with the photostimulable phosphor. The manipulation with the cassette is almost the same. But we don't need the dark room to get the final image, it is replaced by the reading device - the scanner. The simplest and optimal imaging system for future is the direct radiography (DR). The direct radiography uses two types of semi-conductor detectors described in detail in this work: with direct and indirect conversion of X- rays to electrical impulses. These semi-conductors are placed under the Bucky grid on examination table or on the...

Under the monastery vine by Elin Pelin and its connection to the well of Saint Clare by Anatole France
Obůrková, Tereza ; Čolobova, Žoržeta (referee) ; Grigorov, Dobromir (advisor)
On the basis of the contradictory opinions of Bulgarian critics, the objective of this study was to compare the short story cycle Under the monastery vine by Elin Pelin and The We/l of Saint Clare by Anatole France and to determine their relation. Detailed analyse of the books revealed the significant difference. Elin Pelin in the legendary stories presents his model of the ideal world (the world of the fantasy of the common faith of Bulgarian people). Bulgarian writer demonstrates the truth he is convinced of to the reader by basing the narrative on the plot. The We/l af Saint Clare is not a homogeneous book, it can be devided into two parts, where the first part deals with the impressive themes that are remarked by the parnasist beginnings of Anatole France (his pure aesthetical attitude towards writing is at variance with the attitude of Elin Pelin). The stories of the second part are full of philosophical meditations and monologues, in which a french writer takes the engaged position, characteristic for his supreme works. He is not only against the fanatic and dog matic manifestations of the religion like Elin Pelin, but he is also against the faith as such. However Anatole France does not directly instruct the reader, he only demonstrates that any "truth" could be challenged and questioned and any...

Yemen Jews - Religion, Culture, Traditions and Customs
Nepalová, Ivana ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Biernot, David (referee)
The Sages say "from three things our father's were delivered from Egypt: they did not change their names, their tongue (language) and there dress." Tradition records that the Yemenite Jewish community was first established by King Solomon over 3000 years ago. Yemenite Jewry is a window into Jewish people's past. Yemenites have many customs, traditions, foods, clothing, and language that clearly make them unique from the general divisions of world Jewry like Ashkenazic or Sephardic. For instance, Yemenites are the only members of world Jewish community who base their religious legal code on Moses Maimondes' opus magnum the Mishna Torah. Moreover, Maimonides, or more commonly know by his acronym the Rambam, with his logical and rational approach to the Bible is the adopted hero for Yemenite Jewry. On the other hand, Yemenite Jewry maintains many ancient superstitions which at first glance appear to contradict Rambam's approach. However, Yemenites have been able to strike a balance between their superstitions and Rambam's rationalism and to build a harmony in their lives. It this ability to harmonize seemingly unbridgeable differences which first attracted me to the study Yemenite Jewry.
