Vanilloid receptor TRPV1 in mechanisms of acute pain
Nováková, Karolina ; Vlachová, Viktorie (advisor) ; Kozák, Jiří (referee) ; Rokyta, Richard (referee) ; Kršiak, Miloslav (referee)
2. SUMMARY Tbe vanilloid receptor (also callcd 'capsaicin receptor') ISa nonselective catian chaLUlcl that IS predominantly exprcssed by nociceptive primary sensory neurons. This receptor was tenned vaniUoid receptor subtype 1 (TRPV I) because it became the founding member of the vanilloid receptor subfamily ortransient receptor potential (TRP) channels, a large supeďamily af nonselective cation channels that play important roles in many sensory functions. The TRPV I channel cao be activated by pungcnt vanilJoid compounds like capsaicin ar resiniferatoxln, acid (pH < 6.5), noxious heat (> 43řC), phorbol csters, endogcnous arachidonic acid derivatives, ar depolarizing voltages. Upon activation by capsaicin, TRPV 1 can regulate cellular calcium levels via direct penneatioD (PCJPN. - lO), wbich concomitantly downregulates its own activity and activates different G-protein- and phospholipase C-coupled signaling cascades. Understanding tbese underlying mechanisms is one af the key strategies that offer a way to alleviatr;: neuropathic and inflammatory pain. Although tbe molecular identificatian of tbe TRPV l channels bas greatly facilitated understanding tbc mechanisms ofthermal hyperalgesia associated with inflammation and thase by which vanilloids increase and subsequendy modulate nociceptor activity, there is...

Nexus of Christian Spirituality and Sexuality in an Erotic Reationship betweenMan and Woman
Křížek, Josef ; Milfait, René (advisor) ; Klaus, David (referee)
In this work Nexus of Christian Spirituality and Sexuality in an Erotic Reationship between Man and Woman, author tries to make an insight into questions, whose rise from this related affiliation. He tries to make it by concieving these two large scale phenomenas so they could have join in the controversial relationship with holistic concept of percieving a man. Spirituality and sexuality are both powerful forces, who imminently refer to every man - therefore their conscious and positive relationship is an important embouchure in a man ́s life. First of all, author speaks of various embracement of nowadays post moderna and he makes it through historical analysis up to Christian understanding of spirituality, which etymologicly comes out from God ́s third persona - the Holy Spirit. In a part of his work adressed to the spitituality develops some crucial elements of spirituality, such as mysticismand asceticism. This is followed by pass into biblical embracement of a man and a chapter ends by biblical sexuality, which is again followed by part about interdisciplinar embracement of sexuality. In this part are included various theories of sexuality and love, mostly the one about erotical refering from biological embracement of a man to psychological tendencies and meanings. Conclusion is dedicated to...

Essays in Applied Microeconomics: School Admission Mechanisms and Corporate Bankrupcy
Knot, Ondřej ; Roland, Gérard (advisor) ; Švejnar, Jan (referee) ; Filer, Randall (referee)
In my dissertation, I address two topics in applied microeconomics. First two chapters deal with the functioning of school admission mechanisms and their affects on student school choice behavior. Third chapter deals with the question of optimal bankruptcy law design. Pupil-school matching mechanisms play a critical role in the schooling system. They affect the behavior of students and-through the information they convey-also the behavior of the schools and the authorities responsible for education policy. In the first chapter (joint with Daniel Münich), using a computational simulation model, we analyze the functioning of an admission scheme used in the Czech Republic as a prototype of decentralized, ability-based admission schemes widely used in the world to assign pupils to upper-secondary schools. Our findings show large incidence of strategic misrepresentation of school preferences among applicants, large differences between revealed and trued demand, and large incidence of justified envy in the resulting matching. We point out several implication this could have for functioning of schooling systems. In the second chapter, I empirically study the behavior of students under the Czech pupil-school matching mechanism. Using district-level data on demand for public gymnasia, I find significant evidence...

Property tax administration and local taxes
Pribulová, Lucie ; Sedmihradská, Lucie (advisor) ; Sedmihradská, Lucie (referee)
My bachelor's thesis describes tax collection and discusses the problems of property tax administration. I analyzed how the municipality goes about collecting local taxes, I described what part of municipality revenues is made up from the local taxes and as an example I introduced the town of Česká Kamenice. Moreover, I indicated the effectiveness of the tax offices in the collection and recovery of property tax and how large the proportions of this revenue are compared to the total tax revenues. I also show the development of collections of this tax on a nationwide scale, as in the case of the Finance Office in Děčín. In conclusion, I have considered the choice of property taxes to be collected by the municipality and what consequences would result from this situation. I compared all the positives and negatives of this amendment and believe that by strengthening the powers of municipalities the system of tax collection would become more efficient.

Possibilities of using music therapy in clinical practice
Pavlová, Václava ; Schneidrová, Dagmar (advisor)
During the 20th century, medicine has undergone massive development. But countless new methods to save life or improve its quality began to develop a new perspective on health and the role of doctors and patient. Recognizing that virtually everything we do, eat, breathe, etc. affects our health, moved a large part of the responsibility for maintaining health to all of us. A patient who decides on many factors alone, should become a collaborator in self-care and an active participant prevention and therapy. Another change that is greatly reflected in the medical approach to therapy is the pursuit of the lowest of all invasive medical procedures. Doctor must always weigh the benefits and risks of surgery, which intends to make, and it should be attempt to choose the therapy so as to have the least adverse effects in maintaining good efficiency of treatment. The two previous points related increase in interest in psychotherapy. Its essence lies in influencing the patient's psychological means. It means avoidance of drugs and therefore the risk of side effects and risk dependencies that are often prescribed for some but i freely counter medications (anxiolytics, analgesics) a major threat. On the other hand, psychotherapy requires patient cooperation, willingness to treat a mainly willingness to devote time and...

The Low-Threshold Club in Humpolec - Yes or No?
Dománková, Jana ; Martinek, Michael (advisor) ; Křišťan, Alois (referee)
This thesis "The Low-Threshold Club in Humpolec - Yes or No?" deals with a question whether it is desirable to establish a low-threshold club for young people. In Humpolec there are several institutions offering classic leisure time activities to young people. The department for social and legal children's protection takes care of the young who are in danger of negative impacts. Everyone spends their free time in a specific way. The results of a survey made in Humpolec among respondents aged over fifteen show how the local teenagers spend their free time. The final judgment about foundation of a low- threshold club is necessary to be based on adolescent- aimed theories. Everyone is influenced by their psychic experience. Adolescence is a period of human life, during which the positive influence play a very important role. Taking this into consideration, the Roman Catholic Church has brought in two pastoral conceptions which are currently being put into practice by the Youth Section of the Czech Episcopal Conference and the Prague Salesian province. Although both conceptions follow the same aim - to lead one to the God- they differ in ways how to achieve it according to the target group they primarily focus on. While the Salesians address the young at large, the Czech Episcopal Conference focuses on the...

Experimental study of the electronic properties of the RT1-xT'xAl system
Prchal, Jiří
The RNiAl and RCuAl compounds belong to a large group of RTX compounds (R ~ rare-earth, T ~ transition metal, X ~ p-metal) crystallizing in the ZrNiAl-type hexagonal structure, space group P-62m (group No.189). Very interesting behaviour has been observed for TbNi1-xCuxAl system, what has been attributed to a change of mechanisms responsible for the magnetic ordering. In comparison to it, ErNi1-xCuxAl series represent a more complex system. Change of magnetocrystalline anizotropy between the boundary stoichiometric concentrations is involved additionally. ErNiAl is an antiferromagnet (AF) with magnetic moments aligned within the basal plane below 6.2 K, ErCuAl is a simple ferromagnet (F) with moments aligned along the c-axis below 6.8 K. While increasing parameter x, a dramatic 'jump' of lattice constants occurs between x = 0.5 and 0.6 in temperatures down to 5 K. The magnetization and heat capacity data indicate that the change from AF to F ordering occurs between x = 0.2 and x = 0.4. In the range 0.05 x 0.20 there is possible the coexistence of F and AF alignment, the samples in this region embody two phase transitions. This was for x = 0.05 confirmed by heat capacity measurements. The samples with x 0.4 exhibit ferromagnetic behaviour. The neutron diffraction measurements are desired for the final...

Distribution of the turbulent kinetic dissipation rate in an agitated vessel
Kysela, Bohuš ; Sulc, R. ; Konfršt, Jiří ; Chára, Zdeněk ; Fořt, I. ; Ditl, P.
The design of the agitated tanks depends on the proposed operating conditions and processes\nfor that they are used for. Namely dissipation rate of the turbulent kinetic energy is important\nparameter for the scale-up modelling. The dissipation rate is commonly determined as integral\nvalue based on power input of the impeller, but without information about distribution inside\nthe agitated volume. The cumulative distributions of the dissipation rate within an agitated\nvessel are estimated by evaluations of the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) results,\nwhere the data was obtained from RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations) and\nLES (Large Eddy Simulations). The simulations were performed for an agitated vessel\nequipped with four baffles and stirred by a standard Rushton turbine (tank diameter 0.3 m,\nimpeller diameter 0.1 m, off-bottom clearance half of tank diameter, impeller speed 200 rpm).\nThe values of the dissipation rate from the LES calculations were approximated by computing\nthe SGS (Sub Grid Scale) dissipation rate.
