Volodymyr Vynnychenko's influence on Mykola Kulish's and Valerian Pidmohylnyj's writings
Vodvářková, Kateřina ; Morávková, Alena (referee) ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor)
Volodymyr Vynnychenko entered the Ukrainian literature in 1900s. His first short story aroused general attention among reviewers and readers. No other Ukrainian writer of the first quarter of the 20th century gained such popularity and eminence as V. Vynnychenko. During his 50-year literary career the author has gone through an evolution: from early short stories to novels, dramas; and his final writings are marked by science fiction novels, detective genre, political and philosophical novels. His writings were published in plentiful amounts. He held this sovereign position in the Ukrainian literature almost until 1933. An extensive range of thematic and genre specifications of Vynnychenko's writings influenced a great number of Ukrainian writers (e.g. Mykola Kulish and Valerian Pidmohylny), who took up his life-work and elaborated Vynnychenko's methods in a special, unique way. In his plays M. Kulish reassumes various thematic aspects of Vynnychenko's works, for instance a motif of the "Ukrainianess", the formation of the Ukrainian people, the conflict between "Russianness" and the "Ukrainianess", the society formation. However, both authors show different ways of processing these themes. Vynnychenko's writings are dominated by the psychological aspect, whereas the most important feature of Kulish's plays...

Management Board Composition of Banking Institutions and Bank Risk-Taking: The Case of the Czech Republic
Žigraiová, Diana
The paper investigates how the management board composition of banking institutions affects their risk-taking behavior in the Czech Republic. More specifically, we examine the effect of average director age, the proportion of female directors, the proportion of non-national directors, and director education level on four different bank risk proxies. We build a unique data set comprising selected biographical information on the management board members of Czech financial institutions holding a banking license over the 2001–2012 period. Our most robust finding is that higher proportions of non-national directors increase bank risk as measured by profit volatility and reduce bank stability as captured by the Z-score for the Czech banking sector overall and for the segments of general commercial banks, small and mid-sized banks and adequately capitalized banks. Moreover, we also detect risk-increasing implications of board size for the segments of building societies and small and mid-sized banks. As for average board tenure, its effect on risk-taking varies depending on bank characteristics. We find mixed evidence on the effect of female directors and do not find any strong effect of directors’ age on risk in the Czech banking sector. All in all, the results of our analysis are subject to the proxy of bank risk used. The reader should keep in mind that higher absolute level of bank risk is not necessarily unfavorable as it does not capture if risk-taking behavior is excessive for a given return.

Senior Citizens´Knowledge of Social Care Provided in the Countryside and in the City
TRNKOVÁ, Michaela
This bachelor thesis tried to find out how much information the senior population living in rural areas has about social services, then to detect differences in information in the rural and urban areas. The need of the social services is still increasing thanks to the growing number of the senior population. The aim of the theoretical part is to describe specific signs of ageing both in terms of physiological changes and on a level of the psyche and so emphasize the overall involution process ongoing in the old age. Furthermore, a situation of an old person in the society, a field of social services and mainly services for the elderly were sketched. The final part of the theoretical part was focused on the place of the research: the town of Klatovy and one of its microregions, the Plánice region. Various organizations providing social services were mentioned and the total number of the senior population in those two addressed localities. The basic respondent sample, necessary to ensure the validity, was addressed by means of a questionnaire method in the quantitative research. The total return was 51%. From the questionnaires obtained there was confirmed a higher awareness of the seniors as well as social services availability in the urban areas in comparison with the rural areas. Furthermore, the research showed that the most common way how the seniors pass information about the social services among themselves, is an informal way, through their friends. A higher number of respondents expressed that they would like to obtain the information from their nursing doctor. It would be appropriate to provide the results of this thesis to social service providers in the localities where the research was carried out. This information could be beneficial for them due to the possibilities to improve the quality of the social services in the future.

Diachronic comparison of synchronic corpora
Křen, Michal ; Čermák, František (advisor) ; Kučera, Karel (referee) ; Králík, Jan (referee)
The thesis presents a method for diachronic comparison of synchronic corpora that reflect language of very close time periods. Its primary aim is the assessment of possi- bilities and limitations of language change detection based on the synchronic written SYN-series corpora. The approach is corpus-driven, based on a statistical evaluation of differences among normalized average reduced frequencies of lemmata and lexical combinations. There are several variants of the method applied on various subcorpora of corpus SYN and their results examined in detail. Difficulty of the comparison lies in the influence of corpus composition and the interconnection of changes in language with changes in society. As it is not easy to distinguish the signs of diachronic shift from naturally existing synchronic variability, the statistically discovered significance of frequency differences is additionally verified by querying the base corpora. The interpretation of the results is also adjusted by the knowledge of their exact composition. The conclusions are based mainly on the newspapers as a written text type that is most receptive to the changes. The changes can be characterized as a thematic diversion from the original political and economical orientation of the newspapers towards real- life and free-time topics...

Mištová, Jaroslava ; POZZI, Jaroslav (advisor) ; MRAVCOVÁ, Marie (referee)
This bachelor thesis describes the changes in society's view of people with mental disabilities in recent centuries at first, then it is approaching the meanings of the words „mental handicap“ and briefly explains the various classifications of these handicaps. I also work with concept of characters with mental disabilities in Czech cinematography 1993 - 2007. To detect negative stereotypes about people with mental disabilities in the Czech films I use analysis of specific films of that time period. And at the end I find the most common negative stereotypes in these films. One of the most common negative stereotype is the presentation of death - or any form of destruction, silencing, or imprisonment - a character with mental disabilities, as the only possible solution for the character with mental disabilities and society too.
