Study of human NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase deficiency
Rodinová, Marie ; Hansíková, Hana (advisor) ; Kalous, Martin (referee)
NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) is the most complicated enzyme of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation system (OXPHOS). Complex I is localised in the inner mitochondrial membrane and is composed of 45 subunits. Seven of them are coded by mtDNA, thirty eight subunits are coded by nDNA. Function of complex I is NADH oxidation and creation of proton gradient in intermembrane space by proton translocation. Mitochondrial disease caused by complex I defect are the most frequent OXPHOS disorders. Large-scale symptoms mostly affect organs with high energy demand like brain, muscle or heart. The aim of study was to characterize the impact of isolated complex I deficiency on cellular, enzymatic and protein level in patient-derived skin fibroblasts with m.3697G>A mutation in MTDN1 and c.[229C>T];[476C>A] mutations in NDUFS8. Both mutated subunits are parts of catalytic core of complex I. Heteroplasmy of mtDNA mutation m.3697G>A in fibroblast cells reached more than 90 %. Mitochondrial ultrastructure was disrupted in both patients compared to control. Mitochondrial network was nonhomogenous, mitochondrial ultrastructure showeed low cristae level and content of reactive oxygen species in both patients was significantly increased in comparison with control. Catalytic activity and protein level of...

Comparison of the mortality evolution in the Czech Republic and in the Slovak Republic after 1993
Slabý, Michal ; Langhamrová, Jana (advisor) ; Fiala, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to provide view of evolution and possible changes in death rate in Czech and Slovak Republic twenty years after separation. In thesis, mostly data from life tables and demographic annuals provided by EUROSTAT are used. Firstly are defined and explained basic indicators and methods, which are used to com-pare death rates across time and space. Then ways of data acquisition that are necessary for calculation these indicators and methods are explained. Then is explained death rate and eve-rything connected with this term. In next part evolution of population and age structure is described. After that the thesis continues with death rate at the beginning of life, quality of health care and characteristic of time series, within which specific death rates are counted as well. Next the thesis includes indicators of life expectancy with prediction of future progres-sion of life expectancy in Czech and Slovak Republic. Within prediction regression line was used. Results were then compared to projection of life expectancy provided by EUROSTAT. In the end of thesis we can find total evaluation of progression of both populations within 20 years from separation of Czechoslovakia. In thesis is used number of charts and tables, in which is clearly illustrated particular phenomenon within time interval. With help of these charts and tables, which were for maxi-mal objectivity constructed using data from EUROSTAT only, comments are made for par-ticular phenomena in Czech and Slovak Republic.

Image processing in multiphase polymer systems
Holoubek, Jaroslav
Application of image analysis in the real and inverse space (in the Fourier space) are presented for some multiphase polymer systems. The analysis of the thresholded images of back scattered light from thick polymer material gives information about size and concentration of minor phase domains. Similarly, the phase separation and dissolution processes can be characterized by processing of light scattered patterns detected during time evolution.

PC control via eyes
Neuwirth, Tomáš ; Číp, Pavel (referee) ; Horák, Karel (advisor)
The presented master thesis deals with the evaluation of the position of the iris compared with surroundings of the eye. This technique is supposed to be use for computer control. The created software works in real-time mode, the pictures are taken with an ordinary webcam. The first part of the work presents basic algorithms used in computer vision for edit of images. The following part is focused on abilities of methods to find the face, eyes and to detect the iris. The detection and the subsequent separation of the face is based on the recognition of skin colour in the YCbCr color space. The position of eye is then searched in the face by Haar-like features. The darkest part of the eye is found by horizontal projection from surroundings and the seed point is started from this place. From the area which is filled by the seed method (Flood Fill) and which shows the iris, the cursor movement is controlled by obtained x and y position.

The Occurence of Muscle Activity in Correlation with the EEG Recording of Developmentally Different Groups of Rats
Feštrová, Veronika ; Otáhal, Jakub (advisor) ; Konopková, Renata (referee)
Objective: The aim of this thesis is to determine both the number and incidence of muscle twitches muscle activity in individual groups of pups in rats, possibly record the simultaneous occurrence of EEG activity, which points to the involvement of cortical levels of motor control. Method: The experiment was conducted on 4 groups of pups in rats, divided according to age, which was performed by the EMG electrodes into the extracellular space neck muscles and electrodes 6 - 4 sensor, reference and ground epidural placed for EEG activity. Have also been reported already mentioned curves and captured video footage necessary for final processing and analysis. Results: After statistical evaluation of experimental data has been demonstrated numerous of muscle jerks with developmentally youngest experimental group P7 and occurrence locomotor activity in developmentally older groups correlated with increased activation in cerebral cortex, which was confirmed by increased levels of energy and entropy of the EEG signal. These values also increased with increasing age, as evidenced by the gradual maturation of cortical motor control. Vector editors and design of user interface for Inkscape
Válka, Vítězslav ; Svoboda, Aleš (advisor) ; Brejcha, Jan (referee)
Diploma work, focused on user interface of Inkscape computer software is divided into several analytic parts. It is mapping the social part for this kind of software. Describing how it involves people who work with that application. At the end of the work I applied the theory and my own praxis from this field to introduce new design of the Inkscape application. I applied mainly what I have learned during those years of study and surly experience gained by designing information systems and websites. First part introduces current trends and changes in user interface evolution. Involved mainly by internet and its never ending force which takes it to much more people and into more types of electronic equipment. All that influences the social perception of the computer and its software interface. It describes possible threads and opportunities for the future. To summarize that, the work takes its readers into the field and defines the borders of space which is forming our scope while designing UI. In the closing part there is a maximum of information, I gained during the study, applied into final solution - which is ideal user interface of Inkscape software. Usage and application of these theoretical thoughts onto testing model is made by using symbols common for this software field according to the theory.

Dynamics of the settlement pattern in the microregion of Zarabag (southern Uzbekistan) on the basis of archaeological sources
Augustinová, Anna ; Stančo, Ladislav (advisor) ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (referee)
15 Abstract The following thesis summarizes results of the archaeological research in the microregion of the Zarabag Oasis in the South Uzbekistan. The non-destructive research focused on the collection and evaluation of the archaeological data that allow to reconstruct the settlement dynamics in the oasis during the ages. Previously, there was not archaeological evidence available in the region. The fieldwork in the oasis and its closest surroundings was conducted by way of extensive surface survey (global coverage of the oasis focused on the detection of archaeological evidence), and intensive one (systematic surface survey on a closely defined area). The extensive survey proved to be more suitable for the studied environment in terms of the quality and quantity of the collected archaeological data. One part of the survey consisted in detection of the water sources (springs, surface canals and even remains of the karez systems). The basic units of extensive survey were represented by polygons (gardens, fields, cemeteries, tepas etc.), to which the finds collected during the research were attributed. Their dating in the combination with their spatial distribution allowed then to reconstruct the settlement processes and dynamics in the microregion of the oasis. One part of the research deals also with the...
