Largest Koha Installation of 1,130 Public Libraries in Turkey

The public libraries in Turkey belongs to Ministry of Culture and every city in Turkey has many public libraries, more than 1,140 libraries now. In 2014, they decided to migrate from a local system to Koha and after first period, we widely start to support public libraries in a centeralized system with Koha. Many new modules were added to Koha system and we also migrate to 3.20.x version later. More than 5.000.000 duplicate bibliographic records were merged in that period. In this presentation, we’d like to share all installation process of a largest centeralized system by a free open source library system Koha.

Czech public libraries as an institution of lifelong learning with a focus on seniors

(in English): This thesis is dedicated to projects of lifelong learning in Czech public libraries. Its aim is to examine to what extent Czech public libraries are devoted to lifelong learning, especially retiree education, and further, to analyze specific educational projects. Considering the demographic development of the Czech population, there is highlighted the importance and the significance of organizing such programs in the libraries. The first part of the thesis presents theoretical basis and explains terms such as lifelong learning and education, learning society, and formal, non-formal, and informal education. Another part of the thesis deals with gerontopedagogy and old age pensioners. Specific forms of adult education are also presented here. In the practical part, there is an analysis of educational projects of libraries and the questionnaires of the participants are evaluated.

Public Library Services for Visually Impaired: An Analysis

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public library services for visually impaired users. Firstly, the thesis provides a theoretical introduction to the topic. It describes several projects related to the topic, activities of chosen non-profit organizations and fundamental legislation. Secondly, the thesis focuses on provision of library services for visually impaired in public libraries in the Czech Republic and abroad. The practical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of four Czech public libraries and of a qualitative research. Finally, the findings are summarized into several recommendations which could help libraries successfully offer services for visually impaired users.
