The Influence of the Catholic Anti-Abortion Movement on the Identity of the Republican Party in the 1960s and 1970s

This bachelor's thesis discusses the shift in the Republican Party's position on abortion in the 1970s in the context of Catholic anti-abortion movement. The anti-abortion movement was mobilised due to social upheavals of the 1960s during which the calls for abortion-laws liberalization became more prominent. The pro-life movement in the 1960s and 1970s was almost exclusively Catholic, since evangelicals joined the movement as part of the New Christian Right in the late 1970s. With the use of primary and secondary sources, the thesis analyses the relationship between the Republican Party and the pro-life movement. The thesis seeks to answer the question why the Republican Party included a pro-life stance to its platform. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first one explains the character and activity of the pro- life movement and the positions of the main actors, the Republican Party and the Catholic Church, on the abortion issue up to the legalization of abortion in 1973. The second part analyses Richard Nixon's position on abortion. The last chapter deals with Republican Party's adoption of the pro-life platform in 1976 and focuses on strengthening of the ties between the pro-life movement and the Republican Party. In May 2019 within the regular survey the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on issues that could be perceived as morally controversial. Specifically, respondents answered questions concerned with the abortion, euthanasia and prostitution.

The issue of abortion in today's society The thesis tries to clarify the rational aspect of abortion. However a religious viewpoint is not the main topic of this thesis, the author does not leave it out and one separate chapter of this work is dedicated to it. The authoralso tries to find an answer whether it is possible to consider an abortion to be ethical and in what conditions. The thesis is trying to explain various aspects of abortion in the Czech Republic as well as abroad, it is also following a medical view - point and various executive methods of abortions. There is an aspiration to refer to the historical advancement of abort opinion and to resolve an origin of this problem. Disposition of this work is to disclose not only the moral aspects but also the feelings of the woman experiencing an abort including after-effects on her. The important chapter there is the postabortal syndrome which is not accepted as a medical diagnosis associated with psychological effects of abort. There is a short questionnaire inserted in the thesis which refers to some women's opinions and experiences. Issue of Abortion

This diploma thesis is aimed at an induced abortion issue and it considers it a bioethical issue. The author refers to a difference between views of theological and biological sciences that deal with the given issue. Simultaneously it provides a reader with an essential outline of basic embryological and medical processes which enable understanding of the given issue. On the one hand, the thesis presents a reader legal essentials related to the given topic in a historical legal context, on the other hand it does not ignore a contemporary development. It regards the given issue from a point of view of various Christian churches, although it does not work in a field of theology. It refers to negative health consequences of a miscarriage and induced abortion and simultaneously it presents basic information about contraception and about contraceptive and abortive means. The thesis also presents a reader with opinions and moral norms of selected Christian churches that express their opinions on abortion, contraception and interception. The author reflects upon the given moral norms. The main aim of my bachelor thesis is to find out how well women are informed about the issue of artificial termination of pregnancy. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, I briefly defined the term "abortion", described an evolution of abortion in the context of history in general and in the Czech Republic in particular. I also presented basic views on abortion, abortion methods, described post-abortive syndrome, and recommended fundamental steps that a woman should follow after termination of pregnancy. I gained this information by studying professional literature. In the practical part, I listed six selected partial goals and formulated questions related to them, which are stated in evaluation questionnaire. Then I evaluated the research within the framework of these partial goals on the basis of answers which I had received. As a method of collecting data for the practical part of the bachelor thesis, I used an internet questionnaire survey. I processed the data using tables and charts. The research results show that most women have some knowledge about the problem of abortion, for example, most women know what ways to perform an abortion exist, and they are also well aware of the risks and complications that may arise alongside this procedure....
Abortion and men's role

This thesis deals with research of men, who have experience with abortion of their girlfriends. My research attention was focused on men, who experienced abortion on their own. In Czech Republic almost no researches about men and abortion have been conducted and that is the reason why I started with this research. My research consists of a semi- structured interviews with five men. By analytical process of coding I created eight categories. We expect from men that they will be support for their girlfriends and they also want to act like that and be supportive. Men want take care of their partner. Men's role is to be support in this situation. They are aware of that this problem is mainly about women and that abortion is happening on woman body. But men want to be part of this situation. If they are not, they feel useless. After abortion they usually feel relief or sometimes guilt. But their emotions are varied. Abortion is also important incident for relationship between man and woman. Both usually think about future of the relationship.
Evaluation of preventive program "Prevention of unplanned pregnancies and abortions "

The aim of the thesis is the evaluation of the prevention program of the National Initiative for Life, o.p.s. "The prevention of unplanned pregnancies and abortions," which is designed for pupils of 9th elementary school. The theoretical part will be devoted to basic definitions related to the prevention of sexual risk behavior in primary schools. Furthermore, the issue of teenage pregnancy and the risks of abortion. The conclusion will be presented preventive program "Prevention of unplanned pregnancy and abortion." The practical part will deal with the evaluation of the prevention program at several elementary schools in the Region. As a research tool, a questionnaire will be used to pretest-posttest principle.
