The 2016 Coup d'Etat Attempt in Turkey and its Impact in Kosovo: A look into the Media Discourse Surrounding the 2018 Gulenist Extraditions and the Resulting Turkish-Kosovo Relationship.

The overall purpose of this thesis is three folded; to analyze Turkey's constantly changing influence since the 1990s in the Western Balkans, consider the failed 2016 coup attempt in Turkey and the anti-Gülenist campaign by Erdogan in the region (with Kosovo as the focus), and to delve into the international and local media discourse surrounding the deportations of suspected Gülenist from Kosovo with the help of Turkish intelligence on March 29, 2018. Employing a mixed methodology approach, the author evaluated existing sources in an attempt to answer the research question; "In what ways has the 2016 Coup d'état attempt in Turkey resonated in the Western Balkans, and how did the local and international media discourse portray the 2018 Gülenists extraditions from Kosovo to Turkey?" The research holds that while the media discourse displayed Kosovo and Turkey's actions as being in violation of numerous international laws, the issue was quickly swept away from the spotlight. Since 2012 (the beginning of the Erdogan-Gülen rift) and especially following the 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey, Erdogan has been emboldened by his growing personal relationships with key Balkan politicians. Post-conflict peacebuilding towards sustainable peace: case study of Kosovo

This bachelor thesis focuses on Post-Conflict Peacebuilding more particularly on the case of Kosovo. The first part deals with the issue of post-conflict peacebuilding and sustainable peace itself. How it evolved over the time, what are the basics and on the other hand what are the main challenges of it. Further the aim is to see the Kosovo case in its complexity starting after the First World War up to date. Moreover, there is focus on what actions by the international community followed right after the war ended including brief evaluation. The overall aim is to see whether the involvement of external actors at the end and right after the war ended led to establishment of a sustainable peace in the region. This is evaluated based on three basic measuring characteristics.

Thesis: Operation Allied Force in Selected Czech Daily Newspapers Author: Mgr. Lucie Božková Annotation In my thesis Operation 'Allied Force' in Selected Czech Daily Newspapers I am tracing the representation of the topic - NATO's air strikes in the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (the so called Operation 'Allied Force') in 1999 in selected Czech Daily Newspapers. I am observing the effects, media's impact, frames and agenda setting. To support the integrity of the topic I added a chapter about the Kosovo crisis which enlightens the initiation of the air attacks. Furthermore, and mainly I am focusing on professional studies dealing with military news. The dominant theme of these articles is the foreign media coverage of the Kosovo War. In the experts 'outputs I predominantly center on their choosing and the method of analysis, on which I then base my analysis on. I decided to use the method of the quantitative content analysis for my own research. The first period of exploration is the bombing period (March 24, 1999 - June 10, 1999). Here the aim of my analysis is to find out what attention have the daily newspapers MF Dnes, Hospodářské noviny, Právo and Blesk paid to the Operation 'Allied Force'. Secessionism, external suport and parent states' reaction: cases in East Africa and former Yugoslavia

This thesis attempts to understand how external support for a secessionist movement influences the parent state's strategy towards it. This question has not been well explored yet and remains relevant. The thesis tests the external security theory of secessionist conflict. The theory hypothesizes that likelihood of future war and higher levels of external support lead parent states to adopt more repressive strategies against secessionists. Likelihood of future war is understood here as determined by the relative war proneness of the region and the depth of ethnic divides between the given groups. Two pairs of comparative case studies are performed, of South Sudan and Ogaden, and of Kosovo and Serbian Krajina. The thesis concludes that the theory does explain the cases in Ogaden and Serbian Krajina, while it does not hold in the cases of Kosovo and South Sudan. It is suggested that this might be the case because of their support by the United States, an internationally dominant, yet stability-seeking power.

Tony Blair and moral arguments in foreign policy

For ten years he spent as the Prime Minister, Tony Blair led Great Britain in no less five then military operations, more than any other Prime Minister in the modern history. Neither of these operations was strictly speaking in British national interest and thus Tony Blair had to use other than the usual arguments to legitimize Britain's participation. He therefore started using moral arguments. Usage of these became much more acceptable during the nineties due to the changes in the international arena, this thesis looks at which moral arguments Tony Blair used during his tenure as the Prime Minister and how he used them. It analyses his arguments used to legitimize operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.

The European Union and the adoption of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Kosovo: the role of material interests and shared ideas

The thesis seeks to examine the underlying motivations behind the conclusion of the Stability and Association Agreement between European Union and Kosovo on the 27th of October 2015. To determine the role of material interests and shared ideas in the process of concluding the SAA the thesis discusses and applies rationalism and constructivism, both grand theories of international relations. To test the theories and their respective hypotheses identifying the role of the relevant concepts, the research employs a single case study method, using a congruence analysis approach. In conclusion, through the rationalist lens within the perspective of the EU, the thesis confirms the existence of material interest in the conclusion of the SAA, representing security, power and economic gains. To complement the analysis via a constructivist lens within the perspective of Kosovo, the thesis solely implies a limited role of identity and norms while it points out that such constructivist concepts rather impeded the reaching of the SAA, veiling the actual role of material interest.

Football as a means of expression of Serbian political radicalism in the 21st century

Bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of expressing radical political opinions during the football matches in Serbia. First part of this thesis is dedicated to the historical background of the Serbian nationalism, its connection to the region of Kosovo and its relationship with other Balkan nations and countries. Examined topics in the first chapter were the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Tito's and Miloševićov's states of Yugoslavia and the final dissolution of the Balkan states during the late 90s and the first decade of the 21st century. Second chapter is dedicated to the general introduction of radical political presentations during the football matches and introduced specific incidents that occurred during the games. Moreover, the second part explained the hooliganism problematics and its connection to the radical political manifestations in Serbia. The main aim of the thesis is to prove whether the football matches are used for expression of the Serbian political radicalism and whether the manifestated actions were related to the events of the Serbian history. Kosovo - The Engagement of the International Community

The Balkans is an area where the diversity of culture, religion and ethnicity is prominent. This diversity has predisposed the Balkan region for troubled periods throughout the history. The Balkan peninsula has always been considered a very unstable territory. The bachelor's thesis deals with the Kosovo conflict in the 90's of the 20th century that escalated in 1998, the course of the conflict and the reasons of the international intervention. The conflict between two ethnic groups - Albanians and Serbs living in Kosovo - culminated in war that was attended by ethnic cleansing on both sides and ended by bombardment in Serbia by NATO forces lead by USA from March to June in 1999. The thesis introduces background history of the Balkan region and presents briefly the reasons for the hatred between the two ethnic groups, then examines the developments in Kosovo in the late twentieth century when the conflict escalated. The International Community tried unsuccessfully to resolve the conflict by diplomatic means.
