Effects of parental background on other-regarding preferences in children
Bauer, Michal ; Chytilová, J. ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara
Other-regarding preferences are central for the ability to solve collective action problems and thus for society’s welfare. We study how the formation of other-regarding preferences during childhood is related to parental background. Using binary-choice dictator games to classify subjects into other-regarding types, we find that children of less educated parents are less altruistic and more spiteful. This link is robust to controlling for a range of child, family, and peer characteristics, and is attenuated for smarter children. The results suggest that less educated parents are either less efficient to instill social norms or their children less able to acquire them.

Background materials were analysed and interviews with the relevant employees working for the given authorities were conducted in order to acquire all necessary information and required analyses. The result of the analysis examining the period between 2006 and 2011 proves the difference of the financial acquisition for different organisations subject to the given survey followed by the possibility of influencing their amount as a consequence. It also emphasizes the difference in ?price ceilings? for the activities concluded within the actions related to the conservation of landscape and natural heritage and values and the preserved specially protected territories and areas belonging to Natura 2000 network. The period subject to the survey reveals that financing of common nature conservation and landscape protection of specially protected territories and areas belonging to Natura 2000 network was concentrated on national programmes and financial means provided by local administrative units. South Bohemian Region and the Administration of Protected Landscape Area of Třeboňsko led to the conclusion that both entities were using similar instruments for nature and landscape protection.

Legal acting
Skřejpek, Jakub ; Salač, Josef (advisor) ; Švestka, Jiří (referee)
- Legal actions Jakub Skřejpek Key words: Legal actions, manifestation of the will, interpretation Legal actions are generally classified as legal facts, which have effect on the creation, modification and termination of legal actions. Legal actions occur in the sphere of civil law. Legislation of legal actions is included in the current Civil Code, which also provides what conditions must be satisfied to make a legal act valid and vice versa, which is an invalid legal act, either absolutely or relatively. To be valid, a legal act must be a manifestation of the will, which is directed specifically to the creation, modification or termination of a legal relationship and the law must connect such a manifestation of the will with legal consequences. This legal specification is in the Civil Code. In the current draft of the new Civil Code, however, such a definition of legal actions is missing, and are specified only the consequences of legal actions. You can expand, that the validity of any legal action depends on the expression of the will of the acting person, which must be capable of acquiring rights and duties. The validity of the legal action is necessary for the expression of the will of the person to be free, serious, specific and comprehensive enough. It must not be done in distress or under...

Words that matter. Towards a Swedish-Czech colligational lexicon of basic verbs
Cinková, Silvie ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Malmgren, Sven-Göran (referee) ; Panevová, Jarmila (referee)
Basic verbs, i.e. very common verbs that typically denote physical movements, locations, states or actions, undergo various semantic shifts and acquire different secondary uses. In extreme cases, the distribution of secondary uses grows so general that they are regarded as auxiliary verbs (go and to be going to), phase verbs (turn, grow), etc. ese uses are usually well-documented by grammars and language textbooks, and so are idiomatic expressions (phraseologisms) in dictionaries. ere is, however, a grey area in between, which is extremely difficult to learn for non-native speakers. is consists of secondary uses with limited collocability, in particular light verb constructions, and secondary meanings that only get activated under particular morphosyntactic conditions. e basic-verb secondary uses and constructions are usually semantically transparent, such that they do not pose understanding problems, but they are generally unpredictable and language-specific, such that they easily become an issue in non-native text production. In this thesis, Swedish basic verbs are approached from the contrastive point of view of an advanced Czech learner of Swedish. A selection of Swedish constructions with basic verbs is explored. e observations result in a proposal for the structure of a machine-readable Swedish-Czech...

Malaria: the global challenge
Nicholson, Ashley ; Dáňová, Jana (advisor)
More than half the world's population is at risk from malaria, with up to 500 million cases each year and more than one million deaths directly resulting from the disease. Those at highest risk from the disease are people living in endemic areas, travelers to endemic areas, small children and pregnant women. Malaria is a constant risk to the overall health of the global population. Treatment of malaria depends on the species of infecting parasite, the area where the infection was acquired and its drug resistance status, the clinical status of the patient, any co-morbidities, pregnancy, drug allergies or other medications taken by the patient. Proper treatment of malaria will shorten its duration, prevent complications and help to avoid the majority of deaths. Currently the best available treatment is a combination of drugs known as artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs). This therapy works rapidly and has little or no resistance to date. In order to protect against the development we must combine drugs with different mechanisms of action against the same stages of the parasite. Malaria prevention includes vector control, chemoprophylaxis use and the future possibility of vaccine use. Vector control is achieved with the use of insecticide treated mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying of...
