Importance of being an Earnest translator
Cvachová, Daniela ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Červinková Poesová, Kristýna (referee)
MA thesis - Daniela Cvachová - 2011 Abstract: This thesis compares two Czech translations of the drama The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The comparison is based on findings of currently recognised theoreticians of translation (Levý, Knittlová, Králová, Reiss). The translation of Jiří Zdeněk Novák is half a century older than the translation by a team of young beginning translators led by Stanislav Rubáš and Zuzana Šťastná. The thesis focuses on the comparison of those aspects that are characteristic for Wilde's works and difficult for translators: lexicological problems like puns, bon mots, allusions to realia. In spite of the fact that the drama is not of a large extent, it offers a wide range of "tough nuts to crack" like that.

Alloparental behaviour of mammals with direction to elect species of genus \kur{Acomys}
TUČKOVÁ, Vladimíra
Despite the widespread interest in alloparental behaviour, relatively little is known about the factors that affect participation of alloparent in the care of strange young. The review of this issue was made with the direction to possible factors leading to this phenomenon and the consequence of this behaviour. It was insisted on the most demanding activities of coopreration in care of young-nursing and retrieving of pups. A separate charter was made for the abundantly studied species egyptian spiny mouse (Acomys cahirinus). Possible factors influencing nursing and retrieving of pup of eastern spiny mouse (Acomys dimidiatus) were examined in the practical section of this Bc.thesis.

A contribution to the theory and practice of representation of passions in visual arts around 1800
Ježková, Markéta ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
The presented thesis deals with the French classicism theory of mechanism and representation of passions as the source of some art works created in the region of Bohemia around the year 1800. The theory of mechanism and representation of passions was developed in Paris at Academie Royalle de Peinture & Sculpture (Academy of Fine Arts) during the 17th century. The academicians were working on a project of creation of an universal model, which was based on the current scholastic discoveries and ancient Rome, to set a guideline to produce a piece of art which could "call" the spectator, touch his heart, allow him to read the presented story and recognize passions which the figures were undergoing. The way to reach this complex aim was initiated by René Descaretes in his writing "Passion of the Soul". His writing was lately modified and enriched by illustrations of Charles Le Brun, the artist of the king's court. Students of art were facilitated to learn and understand of the causes that lead in the expression of passions in the human face. Young artist were allowed to understand the passions, which were not publicly know because of the strict standards of social behavior. Le Brun's drawings of the human face were mostly neutral so they could be used for both sexes in various contexts. The Le Brun's writing was...

Use of performance testing results in warmblood horse breeding
VOKROUHLÍKOVÁ, Jana
Objective of the work was to analyze the results of performance testing and their usage in warmblood horses breeding. The active Czech warmblood stallions registered in The Czech warmblood breeders association on the list of stallions in 2012, were summarized into the overview. The results of mare performance tests (daughters of sires) and the results of offspring in jumping competitions were used for the analysis of the stallions. Stallions were divided according to available offspring data into three groups. The first group contains stallions who still can not have offspring in sport (young stallions), in the second group are stallions with no available record about the offsrping. The stallions in the third group have daughters passed the performance tests and offspring in sports, therefore we have analyzed this third group in detail. Stallions were ranked by the number of offspring and by the performance results of their offspring. Based on average results of the mare performance tests and the average number of points in jumping competitions were selected the top stallions, who also had to meet a criterion of the number of offspring (min. 10 mares on performance tests and min. 6 offspring in sport). Own performance and the performance of the progeny of these top ten stallions was compared with other equally or even more frequent stallions. Based on the results of mare performance tests and sports performance of the offspring were best assessed stallions: Comero, Phill, Le Patron, Radegast, Sargoni, Manillon Rouge, Amarillo, Dantes, Rock´n Roll and Calanthano. These all stallions met the criterion of the number of offspring. The breeder selection of the stallion doesn´t follow performance results and the number of offspring doesn´t copy the quality of the stallion, it means, that the selection of the stallion for each mare is based on other circumnstances. It means that the results of performance testing were not used in Czech warmblood breeding.

Contemporary revaluation of southern local color fiction
Pegues, Dagmar ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee) ; Ewell, Barbara Claire (referee)
The objective of this study is to offer an examination of the works of Kate Chopin and Grace King, representatives of the genre of Louisiana "Local Color" fiction, and to introduce a new perspective on their fiction that is equally distanced from the national/local dichotomy and the feminist interpretative framework. This study interrogates selected aspects of the category of race in the fiction of Kate Chopin and Grace King in order to reclaim the importance of race for regional Aesthetics and to offer an alternative view on the existing interpretations that emphasize the feminist themes of their fiction and, ultimately, to expand such interpretations. A replacement of the existing theoretical frameworks applied to the works of these two authors by postcolonial theory offers a new perspective on the category of race in their fiction without reducing its complexity and interconnection with the category of gender and region. As a result, the insight into the formation of region-specific racial knowledge testifies to the complexity of the issue of race within the framework of Local Color fiction. The focal point of this examination is the representation of racial stereotypes in the fiction of Chopin and King.
