Satisfaction with the Situation in Selected Areas of Public Life - January 2013

In January 2013, citizens of the Czech Republic evaluated how satisfied they are with the situation in 29 selected areas of public life. The best evaluated areas are the selection of goods and services (75 % satisfied) and culture (58 %). The worst evaluated items are corruption (90 % dissatisfied), economic crime (83 %), unemployment (83 %), the situation in public finances (74 %), the political situation (74 %) and the area of social security (73 %).

In December 2012 Public Opinion Research Centre carried out a survey about the situation in selected areas of public life in the year 2012. The Czech citizens evaluated how the situation developed in these areas and negative evaluation prevailed in most of them, for example, in unemployment, social security, corruption, public finances, economic crime, standard of living, healthcare, education and interpersonal relationships. The best evaluated area was the bid of goods and services.

In June 2012, citizens of the Czech Republic evaluated how satisfied they are with the situation in selected areas of public life (29 areas were selected).Citizens of the Czech Republic are the most satisfied with the offer of goods and services (75 % satisfied), culture (59 %). Czechs are dissatisfied with the corruption (92 % dissatisfied), economic crime (81 %), the unemployment (77 %) the political situation (76 %) and the situation of public finance (75 %).

Questions in the survey regarded the opinion on how widespread is taking of bribes among Czech public officials and the opinion on the level of corruption in different institutions and areas of public life. Obtained values are compared with results measured in previous years.

In February this year, respondents of the Public Opinion Research Centre evaluated the urgency of solution in some areas of public life. The most urgent problem is supposed to be corruption and 80 % of respondents supposed the sollution of corruption to be very urgent, 15 % rather urgent.
