Poetics of Dramatic Works of Mara Zalite

The first chapter of the thesis presents Mary Zālīte's personality. The next chapter deals with sources of inspirational works. Here are the figures mentioned by name, that affected the author so much, that their legacy is in her work very noticeable. The following chapter examines and also analyzes the author's poetry, which has features in common with her drama. Another chapter has been focused on the Zālīte's drama, particularly the poetic drama, where the author's analysis in the form of plays and librettos found connection between, that were typical for the authors motives. These analyses were also helpful in the creation of the last chapter of the thesis, which explores the poetic drama M. Zālīte's Margaret. Based on a detailed analysis of the play Margaret was performed comparing the modern play with the Goethe's classic work Faust, which revealed a number of common elements but also innovations of the author.

Karel Čapek's Prosaic Works for Children and for Adults. A Comparison of Style

The subject of this thesis is an analysis of various stylistic aspects of Karel Čapek's Povídky z jedné a z druhé kapsy and Devatero pohádek. In the first part, the author deals with a distinctive feature of Čapek's works, which is an attempt to cause an impression of an oral narrative. At first, she studies an influence of this feature on general composition of the chosen writings. Then she analyses particular language means. The second part explores other stylistic and linguistic means, which are typical for chosen material. These are for example accumulations of synonymic expressions, playing with acoustic form of language or utilization of elements from foreign languages. Stylistic Stringency and the Economy of Expression in Selected Works of Contemporary Norwegian Prose and in Their Czech Translations

The aim of this thesis is to document the process of translating literary texts that have no stylistic equivalent in the target culture. The research is based on selected works by three contemporary Norwegian authors whose style is perceived as very specific. The theoretical part discusses current tendencies in Norwegian as well as in Czech prose writing and also approaches to literary translation developed in translation studies are presented in this part of the thesis. The other part of this thesis focuses on the unique styles of Hanne Ørstavik, Erlend Loe and Jon Fosse. The significant features of their styles are documented in analyses of their novels. These analyses at then used for the assessment of the Czech translations.

Literature und Music: Woyzeck and Wozzeck.Alban Berg's Musical Adaptation of the drama by Georg Büchner

TITLE: Literature und Music: Woyzeck and Wozzeck. Alban Berg's Musical Adaptation of the Drama by Georg Büchner. SUMMARY: This thesis deals with a musical adaptation of the opera Wozzeck by the composer Alban Berg in the context of its literary model. The theoretical part offers an overview of the most important information and data about the authors and the origin of their works, based on the relevant sources. In the practical part, the principal emphasis is put on the libretto, specifically on formal and language similarities and differences detected in the text and their impact on the content and message of the work. Another focus is on musical language and its essential features, especially on the treatment of the voice, instrumentation and motives in the opera. The attention is also paid to the occurrence of autobiographical elements and critical reviews of the work. Paulo Coelho novels : art or kitsch ?

This thesis deals with an issue, which features of works by Paulo Coelho can in literary terms acquire evaluation of art or kitsch. Theoretical part consists of basic concepts of aesthetics defined with regard to diversity of perspectives of scientific literature. Second part consists of comparison and characterization of literary expressions and cheesiness based on analysis of Coelhos works.

Typical Gothic Features and their Reflection in the Tragic Development of the Female Heroes in the works of Emily Brontë Wuthering Heights and Henry James The Turn of the Screw

The thesis ?Charakteristické rysy gotického románu a jejich vliv na tragický vývoj ženských hrdinek v díle Emily Brontëové Na Větrné hůrce a Henryho Jamese Utažení šroubu? is focused on heroines of these books and their fates and it analyzes elements of these books. The aim of the thesis is to specifficaly find and to analyze characteristic elements of gothic fiction in the books. The thesis is also focused on tragic development of the heroines, probable causes of their tragic fates and the connection with elements of gothic fiction. The thesis points out the essential elements of gothic fiction in these books and their connection with the tragic lives of the heroines. Even if the book by Henry James Utažení šroubu is a short story, it is not a novel, the elements of gothic fiction are also present in this book. It means that elements of gothic fiction are not only connected with novels.

From Komenský's Orbis sensualium pictus to Schola ludus

The aim of this diploma work is to study and analyse Schola ludus and Orbis sensualium pictus by John Amos Comenius. First it tries to describe both works, then it states their mutual relationship and finds out their specific features and their place in Comenius{\crq} pedagogic legacy. The first chapter informs the reader about the situation when both manuscripts were written. Chronological interpretation of events from the author{\crq}s life is focused on those that most affected his opinions and ideas. Mainly the period of the origin of both works is studied in a greater detail. The second chapter deals with Orbis sensualium pictus and is devoted to its characteristics, form and content. It also mentions the origin and the reasons why this picture language textbook was written. The third chapter of the diploma works looks at Schola ludus. The same points are analysed, i.e. the origin, the form, the contents and the purpose of this work. It shows the important role of Schola ludus which the book had while the secondary school in Blatný Potok was being reformed. The last chapter summarizes the relationships between Schola ludus and Orbis sensualium pictus, mainly from the point of view of their origin, purpose, social and didactic need. The conclusion of the diploma work considers possible use of the two Comenius{\crq} works for contemporary pedagogy and modern education.

On the Transcendental in "Yzur" by Leopoldo Lugones

The diploma thesis attempts to identify transcendental elements of "Yzur", a short story by Leopoldo Lugones. The thesis propounds several theoretical-practical methods regarding the matter. One of the methods is to compare "Yzur" to "Persona", the work of art of the Swedish film maker and screenwriter Ingmar Bergman. The comparison of both texts is based on their complementary reading. It is possible to determinate this way the transcendental points of the short story emerging from the following interlaced levels of the texts: the linguistic level, the stylistic level, the structural level, the thematic level and the interpretative one. One of the most outstanding transcendental elements of "Yzur" is precisely the richness of the possible interpretations. This bachelor thesis is dedicated to the topic of English declarative questions and their Czech equivalents. The theoretical part presents these questions with respect to their written form. The features of their spoken form are, however, briefly described as well. This thesis presents the ways, reasons and rules for using such questions. Further, the author describes other types of English questions and different types of Czech questions. All described phenomena are supported by illustrative examples. The second part of the thesis is based on the analysis of English declarative questions and their Czech equivalents. What is observed here are the markers emphasizing the function of these questions and their presence or absence in both languages. This part of the thesis is supplemented with a sample compiled from four works of different authors. This study could be useful for speakers of English as a foreign language to whom it could outline the reasons and ways of using this type of questions.

Literary Work of Josef Čapek

Bachelor thesis The Literary Work of Josef Capek focuses on Josef Capek´s writing and his influence on Czech literary critics in last twenty years. Thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, thesis concerns with Josef Capek´s life and it´s influence on his literary style. In the second part, which can be described as theoretical, thesis clarifies the creation process, and its circumstances, of Capek´s chosen literary works and interprets their basic motifs. In the third part, which can be called as practical, thesis adresses and analyses selected reviews, which come from printed magazines, of Capek´s literary texts in years from 1989 to 2008. Based on these reviews thesis in the conclusion summarizes, how was the Capek´s literary work received by Czech critics and what are it´s main features.
