Malaria: the global challenge
Nicholson, Ashley ; Dáňová, Jana (advisor)
More than half the world's population is at risk from malaria, with up to 500 million cases each year and more than one million deaths directly resulting from the disease. Those at highest risk from the disease are people living in endemic areas, travelers to endemic areas, small children and pregnant women. Malaria is a constant risk to the overall health of the global population. Treatment of malaria depends on the species of infecting parasite, the area where the infection was acquired and its drug resistance status, the clinical status of the patient, any co-morbidities, pregnancy, drug allergies or other medications taken by the patient. Proper treatment of malaria will shorten its duration, prevent complications and help to avoid the majority of deaths. Currently the best available treatment is a combination of drugs known as artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs). This therapy works rapidly and has little or no resistance to date. In order to protect against the development we must combine drugs with different mechanisms of action against the same stages of the parasite. Malaria prevention includes vector control, chemoprophylaxis use and the future possibility of vaccine use. Vector control is achieved with the use of insecticide treated mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying of...

ANGLICKÝ ABSTRAKT Title: Letters of Saint Columbanus - translation and interpretation Author: Pavel Calábek Personalities of Irish saints and Irish spirituality seem to be almost unknown in our country and they are pushed to the very edge of our attention. However there was a time when they played a dominant part of the process of Western Europe christianization. This diploma work consists of four main chapters and its goal is to introduce a personality of St. Columban and his activity in Western Europe to our reader. For this purpose the Columban's correspondence is chosen. The letters can describe this saint in the best fashion. This diploma shouldn't be the pure monography however. It should rather draw him and his activities in historical background and contexture. We can find a treatise about the head themes from his letters in the main part. It includes the great Eastern controversy and circumstances, based on the collision of two paschal cycles. Furthermore there is described the saint's involvement in the Three Chapters controversy too. The last main theme is focused on the relationship of Columban - abbot and founder - to his foundations and to the monasticism generally. The goal was to testimony about this holy man in stright way - with his possitive and even negative sides. Also to excite the...

Oncology issue is intertwined with all branches of medicine. With regard to tumor bladder, I took the impression that they are, especially in articlesintended for lay public, a bit neglected and perhaps a bit overshadowed by more frequent, not urologic, cancers (lung, breast and colorectal cancer). Unjustly. The incidence and mortality of this disease in our country and the world continues to rise, and thus of the disease rise was also interested, especially in prevention. That's why I'vetopic "Risk factors for bladder cancer" has chosen as its theme thesis. The first chapter deals with a brief summary of the anatomy and histology bladder and the mechanism of carcinogenesis. The second chapter deals on the overall issue of bladder tumors. These two parts are mainly to understand the following text, so I tried does not go into greater detail. In the last chapter, I deal with issues of risk itself factors. On many of these studies are still ongoing. However, the proven carcinogens, such as those resulting from smoking or aromatic amines from industrial production should certainly be taken into account in the form of the largest and the best preventive measures.

The first part briefly describes the historical development of education of seniors. The second chapter is concentrated on the importance of seniors' education, both from the view of society (the emphasis is placed on population growth) and from the view of seniors. Fiscal effects of changes in social insurance
Skrbková, Lucie ; Klazar, Stanislav (advisor) ; Klazar, Stanislav (referee)
I have chosen the theme of social insurance for my bachelor final essay because it is a highly debated topic, and interests me because decisions and changes made in regards to social insurance impact everyone from employees, to entrepreneurs, to employers, to the state for which social insurance is paid on people's behalf, and to people without taxable income. The primary goal of this final essay is to analyze changes in revenues from social insurance, assuming variable factors which cause social insurance revenues to increase or decrease, The variable factors I will focus on include minimum wage, average wage, rate of inflation, and insurance rates. I will also mention and touch upon other factors which could influence the amount of social insurance revenues, such as demographic factors and base limits imposed for individuals. I will outline and analyze which current changes in social insurance are valid for 2009. I will search out revenues from social insurance of common budgets during the period from 1999 to 2008 and then according to this output data, I will answer the question as to why these changes were made. Finally, I will try to find the best statistics model which would sufficiently describe relationships between insurance revenues (as dependent variable) with minimum wage and average wage (as explanatory variables).
