Teaching English of Deaf and Hard-of-hearing University Students

This dissertation titled Teaching English to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing University Students aims to portray a picture of the situation of teaching English to university students, more specifically of those studying at Charles University in Prague. The work is divided into two main parts. The first part brings general insight, also from linguistic perspective, into language competences and language acquisition by the hearing impaired. It describes variables and possible variables affecting spoken language acquisition by this minority. It gives basic overview of different levels of hearing loss on the grouds of medicine assessment of hearing loss. The dissertiation stresses out the neccessity of educating these students with respect to linguistic research and findings. Moreover, it emphasizes the needs to interweave linguistics and pedagogy and benefits of linguistics research and methods such as error analysis and contrastive analysis for enhancement of language productive skills of hearing impaired students. Bachelor student project focused on location in Grand Brno. The goal is to create a complex project both the entire city and on the basis of the building as itself. Location surrounded by historical buildings and streets Benesova today perplexed in the form of a small city circle route is undoubtedly lucrative areas. Following the line of the Brno main station creates a logical location for further expansion of urban amenities of Brno.

The goal of this bachelor thesis was area between Koliště, Nádražní and Benešova street. This area is a part of so called Ringstrasse. I designed new Media Library here. Digitalization = future. Apart from being the source of new era digital information, it is also a place suited for studying, working and meeting people. Concept of the building rises from its function – the world of movies and books. We can find a solid base there (knowledge, facts) surrounded by unchained and chaotic fantasy. Media Library would be part of a science park along with the scientific-education complex in the northern part of area.

Multi-storey Wooden Building

Master’s thesis deals with complete project documentation of newly built object of library and mediatheque located on the site in České Budějovice. It is a three-storey building divided into three parts, one-storey, two-storey and three-storey. It is partly basement. The underground part is devoted to main storage spaces of library services, management offices and social facilities for staff (toilets, changing rooms, washrooms). This part of the building has own entrance for employees. In the 1st floor is located the main library area along with exhibition spaces and the main entrance for visitors with self service cloakroom. In the 2nd floor are designed library spaces for visually impaired persons with fund of audio books, CDs and DVDs, a lecture hall with a projector and own kitchen and space for reading magazines and periodicals. From this floor is possible access to the outdoor terrace, which has own terrace furniture store nearby. In the 3rd floor is located a literary café with its own facilities. In each floor are also designed sanitary facilities for use by persons with limited ability of movement and orientation. All floors are connected by stairs and passenger lifts. In terms of construction, the building is designed as a frame, in the underground parts made of reinforced concrete, the overhead of glued laminated timber elements. The ceiling structure designed over the underground floor is monolithic reinforced concrete slab. The ceilings in the upper part are designed as a wooden beamed made of the glued laminated timber elements. The building has a pent roof created by wooden trusses assembled with punched metal plate fasteners. The foundations are designed as belts and footings. The study, detailed documentation, thermal-technical evaluation of selected structures and fire safety of the building are processed. For processing of the thesis were used software AutoCAD 2010, Teplo 2011, Area 2011, Ztráty 2011 and Fire NX 802 PRO.

Cultural Center in Koprivnice

Urban and architectonic study of cultural centre in Koprivnice, Czech Republic. Study is concerning the possible usage and transformation of actual buildings built in 1990´s. The aim of proposal is to use the existing, simplify the complicated, complete the existing. The design offers a transformation of actual culturaly-educational facility into a new centre appropriate to needs of present inhabitants. Community centre is cleared out from unrelated functions and gets a clear definition of a place where cultural, musical and theatrical events take place. After possible developement evaluation of Tatra factory (done in pre-diploma project) is the Tatra museum situated newly behind the city municipal office building. There it stimulates actualy arising brownfield. New proposed museum building contents a mediatheque. The mediatheque aims on community functions in the city presented by atrium as a meeting place.

City Library, Lausanne

Project for the new houses of city library and mediatheque, solves the concept of redesigning the old industry area Sevelin in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland. Here should the new social and education district takes place, what brings a new metropolitan lifestyle. Two objects of library and mediatheque end up the rows of rational city grid at this platform. They define the new open space in between as a new entrance area on the platform Sevelin. It becomes also the extension of library activities to the urban space. Here also the new metro station takes place. Concept of the library – “house in house, city in the city” creates the group of three volumes situated under one roof. The houses of adults’ library, youth library and administration define two atriums in between. Here the life of the whole building meets together. Volume of mediatheque steps up the row and shows the new direction of our culture and media.
