Union Life of Agrarian Academics in Brno in the Inter - war Period (with an Attempt for More General Overtones)
Mikovcová, Alena
An integral part of agrarian party were its students unions (Praha, Brno, Bratislava). In 1938 they were suspended. The ideology, policy and power structure of the agrarian party were reflected in the trends of student agrarian community. In 1925 a generation staying in The Švehla studentŽs residence in Prague played the significant role in it. In the 1930Žs some of them functioned as the brain trust of the party. In 1936 the agrarians deserted the middle position of the student political spectrum and moved to the right one. Folowing the Munich agreement the agrarian clubs took part in the regimentation of the student movement.

Invenio: A Modern Digital Library for Grey Literature
Caffaro, Jérôme ; Kaplun, Samuele
Grey literature has historically played a key role for researchers in the eld of High-Energy Physics (HEP). Consequently CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) as the world's largest particle physics laboratory has always been facing the challenge of distributing and archiving grey material. Invenio, an open-source repository software, has been developed as part of CERN's institutional repository strategy to answer these needs. In this document we describe how the particular context of grey literature within the HEP community shaped the development of Invenio. We focus on the strategies that have been established in order to process grey material within the software and we analyse how it is used in a real production environment, the CERN Document Server (CDS).

The Role of Family Carers in the Nursing Home for Persons with Cognitive Impairment
Kastlová, Barbora ; Holmerová, Iva (advisor) ; Tollarová, Blanka (referee)
Thesis subject: The Role of Family Carers in the Nursing Home for Persons with Cognitive Impairment. The theme of this thesis is the role of the family carers in the nursing home for persons with cognitive impairment. This topic is very actual due to the aging of society and to the increasing of life expectancy. A proportion of the old people in society increases but in the same time there is a decreasing number of people who could take care of them at home (due to negative population balance, disintegration of traditional family, economic situation and high requirements of the care etc.). Many seniors who are depending on the help of the others (such as people with dementia) spend their old age in institutional care. The qualitative research in this thesis shows that families continue in caregiving even after the admission of their relatives to a nursing home. The aim of this research was to describe the involvement of families in the institutional care and to identify factors that influence this phenomenon. Research was conducted in one nursing home for persons with cognitive impairment. Semistructured interviews were conducted with a sample of informants consisting of five professional nurses and four family carers. The analysis of data was carried out using the grounded theory. Corporate governance and its increased role in the period of global financial crisis with the focus on European region
Korlyakova, Darya ; Taušer, Josef (advisor) ; Žamberský, Pavel (referee)
In this thesis we analyzed methods contributing to corporate government improvement in order to enhance companies' efficiency, thereby preventing their bankruptcy during times of crisis. In the theoretical part we defined corporate governance, described its elements, influential factors and models. Particular attention was paid to the concept of effective governance and recommendations aimed at its achievement. Overall it was discovered that to be successful company should have such corporate governance system which will ensure maximization of shareholder value, respect for stakeholder rights, balance of strategically important long-term goals, effective supervision over managers' actions, regular audits and reliability of their results and transparent and frequent Board reports. In the historical part we gave an overview of main corporate governance developments which took place from the moment the first corporations emerged till the global financial crisis outbroke (its early outcomes are included as well). In the course of time the following findings were reached: owners should be involved in management of an organization, managers should act in best stakeholders' interests, remuneration schemes should be well thought-out, auditor and the Board itself should be independent, financial information should be adequately disclosed, etc. In the second chapter we examined corporate governance regulation in Europe as thesis topic implies focus on this region. In addition to the above mentioned corporate governance improvements regulatory measures are aimed at strengthening the role of non-executive directors, unambiguous description of auditor's and Board's duties, higher quality of information provided to investors, achieving gender balance on Boards. In the third chapter the analysis of case study was carried out. Northern Rock, which was a very successful bank for a long time, suddenly asked the Bank of England for financial support in September 2007 what immediately caused depositor run and 32 percent drop in its share price. Despite the fact that it was looking for a buyer for several months it failed to find the one who would be able to adequately compensate taxpayers, therefore in February 2008 it was nationalized. Several factors contributed to its downfall, however the main role is assigned to poor corporate governance whose improvement requires the undertaking of following measures: stricter criteria for auditor's independence, remuneration based on performance and aimed at long-term commitment, promotion of stakeholder activism, limitations on risks and creation of "honesty motivational" corporate culture. The principal conclusion was that good corporate governance should contribute to company's forward movement but at the same time it should respect accountability framework.

On improving teachersď beliefs about mathematical education
Tichá, Marie
The contribution is based on our belief about teacherďs decisive effect on the character of mathematical education. Therefore we put stress to the necessity to help teachers to shift them from "transferring of informations" to the "bringing of challenges, questions, problems". Some impulses how to influence teacherďs belief and our present experience from the work with teachers are given.

The role of internal audit in operational risk management
Stoklásková, Martina ; Blahová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Brada, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis focuses on the operational risk, its identification, measurement and regulatory requirements associated with it. It defines what is the role of internal audit, departments that perform its function and relationship to the organizational structure of the company. Similarly, it is depict the relationship between internal and external audit. These facts are set in the context of operational risk. In the form of comparison are confronted four major banking institutions operating on the Czech market. The aim is to find out how banks manage operational risk, what tools are used for the quantification and how the whole process involve internal audit services and, finally, how they deal with regulatory requirements on capital.

The effect of floods on the ichthyofauna of Štěpánovský stream
Čech, Martin ; Čech, P.
The effect of floods on the ichthyofauna of Štěpánovský stream (left-hand affluent of Sázava River, aver. summer flow rate 0.2 m3s-1) was studied using diet analysis of kingfisher A. atthis preying exclusively on local fish community. The first local flood event (2 August 2001; flow rate 100 m3s-1) caused drastic shift in the ichthyofauna composition from original fish community dominated by brown trout S. trutta, brook trout S. fontinalis and bullhead C. gobio to fish community dominated by bleak A. alburnus, roach R. rutilus, chub L. cephalus and gudgeon G. gobio. The second flood event (all Czech Republic floods in August 2002; flow rate 4 m3s-1) was surprisingly much less destructive to fish fauna. Consequently, the stream played also the role of refuge for many new fish species including juveniles of nase C. nasus, vimba bream V. vimba, barbel B. barbus, asp A. aspius and sunbleak L. delineatus, from highly flooded Sázava River.

Regional distribution of German-Czech multinationals on the domestic market
Moritz, M. ; Münich, Daniel ; Schäffler, J. ; Srholec, Martin
The article deals with the domestic location of German multinational firms which have affiliates in the Czech Republic. Due to the common border the Czech Republic represents an attractive target country for both vertical and horizontal direct investments. On the one hand, the still existing wage gap offers the opportunity to offshore activities abroad by reason of cost advantages. On the other hand, the increasing purchasing power of Czech customers provides favorable chances to acquire a new market. On the basis of a register of firms made available by the German-Czech Chamber of Industry and Commerce we present findings on the growing economic integration between the two countries. Almost 80% of the headquarters of German investors are located in the four federal states Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. The eastern German New Laender are far less engaged in investments in the neigh-boring country. We use count data models in order to account for the distribution of the dependent variable, i.e. the number of investors in the German domestic regions. Controlling for several economic factors it can be concluded that the headquarters of German multinationals investing in the Czech Republic are preferably located in areas with high regional GDP. The distance to the common border plays an important role for the decision to enter the Czech market. In addition, regions that are situated directly at the German-Czech border are involved at an above-average rate in foreign direct investment. Thereby, location patterns differ between manufacturing firms and both trading and service companies.

Role of the bZIP protein Atf3 in metabolic and immune homeostasis and Molecular interactions of the insect juvenile hormone receptor Met
RYNEŠ, Jan
This thesis comprises two parts: I. Role of the bZIP protein Atf3 in metabolic and immune homeostasis This part of the thesis is based on analysis of loss-of-function phenotypes of the bZIP transcription factor Atf3 in Drosophila larvae. By employing genetic, biochemical, molecular and microscopic techniques, metabolic and immune disorders caused by atf3 mutation have been characterized, suggesting a new role of Atf3 as a common regulator of metabolism and immunity in Drosophila. II. Molecular interactions of the insect juvenile hormone receptor Met In the second part of the thesis, ligand-binding properties of the candidate insect juvenile hormone (JH) receptor, the bHLH PAS transcription factor Met, have been investigated. It has been proven that Met binds JH with high affinity and point mutations disrupting JH binding have been identified. By using biochemical tools, JH-dependent protein-protein interactions of Met have been tested. The results show that Met senses the JH signal by specifically binding the hormonal ligand, thus establishing the function of Met as a JH receptor.

Economic research bulletin (2011, No.1). Monetary policy analysis in a central bank
Česká národní banka
The first article gives a fairly general description of how monetary policy was conducted in a group of developed countries during the last three decades and shows how interest rate setting changed in response to various changes in the institutional framework, such as the adoption of inflation targeting. The second article tackles the classical issue of the money and inflation nexus. Although the benefits of money in policy analysis have been questioned by many commentators, the forecasting exercises carried out in this article lend some support to the role of money for policy analysis. The third article investigates the main channels of monetary transmission mechanisms and finds a well-functioning monetary transmission in the Czech Republic. Last but not least, the fourth article deals with the question of how the Czech National Bank is viewed by the media. The authors show that even surprising policy moves do not reduce the favourableness of media assessment, and emphasise the role of timely and clear central bank communication in this respect.
