On the edge : social intervention in contemporary art and culture

The Final work of the Bachelor degree 'On the edge' deals with the theme of social intervention and the use of the body in contemporary art and culture. It investigates concrete likenesses of these expressions in the edge of art, primarily in the Czech art scene and searches for its predesessors in the art of the twentieth century. The artistic part represents realised projects and inspired chosen works. The third part is comprised of evaluated questions, investigations into the relationship Basic school students have with contemporary art and a proposal for the possible exploitation of the explored approaches to work in artistic projects for older students of Basic schools.

Peregrination as a Component of the Creation

This thesis deals with the fine art based on the experience of peregrination and walking - from plein air landscape painting to the works of action art and land art. These contemporary art movements regards the act of peregrination itself as an artwork. Didactic part of this thesis aims to employment of physical experience of walking in art education.

Action

My thesis is focused on the performance art. I am interested in the nature of the action, the environment in which the work is produced (including the author's intention), its socio-cultural impact as well as the spiritual and artistic role of the author. The text begins with an Angela's interview about art.
Then I?m introducing contemplation, as a spiritual category, which defines the rhythm of social life.
Contemplation as the interruption of normal course of things. I?m showing actions, examples of physical performance, which contains more artistic methods. However I try to challenge the definition of the action by mentioning various examples. I continue with the theme of the documentation, where for example photographs may be essential element for action to be truly done.
