Even though a number of RPC protocols and implementations evolved over those years, no single system offers a significant set of features, while providing an easy-to-use application programming interface. In this thesis, we present Yet Another Remote Procedure Call - YaRpc, a specification of a flexible and programmer friendly middleware that offers advanced features such as pluggable transports and protocols, callbacks, and configurable method dispatch. Additionally, we define YaRpc Native Protocol (YNP), a new light-weight high-performance RPC protocol with a rich set of features. We provide a native implementation of both YaRpc middleware and YNP protocol for Java and .NET Framework, and compare its usability with Java RMI, .NET Remoting and SOAP web services. SOFAnet 2 MASTER THESIS Michal Papež Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems, 2011 Abstract: The aim of SOFAnet 2, as a network environment of the SOFA 2 com- ponent system, is to exchange components between SOFAnodes in a simple and rational way. Current concerns of the SOFA 2 users about software distribution are analyzed and discussed. New high level concepts of Applications and Components are defined together with their mapping to SOFA 2 first class concepts, means of distribution and removal. Furthermore a methodology to keep SOFA 2 repository clean is introduced. All new elements as concepts and operations are studied using a formal set model. The proposed concept of SOFAnet 2 is proved by a prototype implementation. 1
Dynamic reconfiguration in SOFA 2 component system

SOFA 2 is a component system employing hierarchically composed components in distributed environment. It contains concepts, which allow for specifying dynamic reconfigurations of component architectures at runtime, which is essential for virtually any real-life application. The dynamic reconfigurations comprise creating/disposing components and creating/disposing connections between components. In contrast to majority of component systems, SOFA 2 is able to specify possible architectural reconfigurations in the application architecture at design time. This allows SOFA 2 runtime to follow the dynamic behavior of the application and reflect the behavior in architectural reconfigurations. The goal of this thesis is to reify these concepts of dynamic reconfigurations in the implementation of SOFA 2 and demonstrate their usage on a demo application.
Monitoring of SLD DNS servers

This publication directly follows the bachelor thesis. It contains necessary theory of HTTP, SMTP and some other protocols and services. This knowledge is then used to draw a methodology to build additional tests to verify availability and functionality of basic Internet services of a domain name. This methodology is then implemented as an application that uses distributed processing to analyse a large number of domains. Obtained results are then compiled into statistical outputs. One chapter is also devoted to overview of the attacks on DNS and security options of DNS servers and domain records.

Web Interface for Image Processing

This paper concerns design and implementation of a system which provides easier control of digital image processing console applications. The work is based on threes information technology domains: distributed systems, image processing and web technologies. The system consist of number of separated components communicating with each other in order of processing desired tasks. Control interface and the task daemon are implemented in PHP language. Image processing programs are implemented in C language using OpenCV graphic library. Control of the system is carried out through web graphical interface using dynamic control components implemented in Javascript language, jQuery library and jQueryUI interface. Part of the work is also a description of employment of the system in practical use in two environments, experiments concerning system performance and web interface user acceptance testing.
Modular Architecture of Distributed Applications

Traditional architectures of software systems are in heterogenous environment of today's computer networks too heavy-footed. One of principles, which tries to solve this problem is service-oriented architecture (SOA). Practical way of its implementation is represented by web services (WS) built upon protocols like SOAP or XML-RPC. This diploma thesis focuses problem of providing contextual information to mobile devices and its solution based on SOA principles. The thesis introduces design and implementation of web service providing contextual information to mobile devices and prototype of modular inverse SOAP proxy server allowing its effective monitoring and management.
Self-Organization in Large Distributed Systems

Gossip is a generic protocol which was designed for spreading information between nodes in large distributed decentralised systems. This protocol can be also used for many different applications including data aggregation, topology construction, etc. This work presents and describes a framework designed for facilitating modelling and simulation of Gossip-based systems.
Distributed Systems on the .NET Framework Platform

With the expansion of the Internet communication and related availability of increasing number of services built on different technologies, distributed systems represent a solution to integrate these network services and provide them to users in a coherent form. The .NET Framework which provides an environment for application development in a highly distributed environment of Internet and intranet can be used to achieve this goal. This PhD thesis deals with access to shared resources in the context of distributed systems using the .NET platform. The first part of the work is devoted to describing the basic principles of distributed systems and .NET platform techniques, which can be used for implementation of the principles. For the purposes of request processing having asynchronous nature not only in distributed systems a universal interface for the description of asynchronous operations was designed and implemented. The interface extends standard asynchronous techniques on the .NET platform. In order to address the issue of access to shared resources model was designed based on the principles of object-oriented programming, along with basic algorithm to avoid deadlock in the case of use resources by multiple processes (threads) simultaneously. This extendable model has been successfully implemented and its functionality verified in basic scenarios of access to shared resources. After the definition of resources and their dependencies the implemented model allows working with resources as with any other objects on .NET platform. The synchronization processes proceed transparently in background.
Distributed power quality monitoring systems

Subject of this master’s thesis deals with the issues parameters of electric power and some possibility of measuring with focusing on norm requiring parameters. There are some distributed power quality monitoring systems described, which are available. The following chapter discusses the suggestion and implementation of the low-cost monitor with remote control for low-voltage networks. The thesis also concerns the using MySQL database for archiving measuring values and implementation of web applications for on-line presentation of the measured values.
